Had enough of seeing something repeated ad nauseam?

Want to offload when having tried to find good quality, stylish clothes you are instead met with a sea of shit? Epically garish, cheaply manufactured (without the corresponding price tag) and downright tired apply here.

I may be alone in having this need, but may I start by offering..... the rainbow jumper. How to take a perfectly useable piece of cloth and curse it to landfill in nanoseconds.....

I think it's white stuff atm has jumpers with woof on them. Lovely collection to go with op's joules jumpers.

borntobequiet · 14/09/2018 13:56

Bags embellished with non functional big shiny zips. Why?

Isentthesignal · 14/09/2018 14:07

I think they are running out of ideas to sell us more stuff - stuff we don't bloody need. However will confess to wearing two uems mentioned on this thread - My Annie Sparkle knit - it's three years old and I still love it and a pair of cropped wide leg jeans....wouldn't buy another pair but I'm happy to hang out in these ones for a while.

lemonadefloat · 14/09/2018 14:16

I agree about tops with tiny stupid pocket over one breast.
And no more stripey tops. So over them. Boring.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 14/09/2018 14:30

I'm wearing 3/4 length sleeves and 3/4 trousers today Grin

This thread has pretty much named everything that makes any clothes interesting now so being in room 101 seems preferable to being outside of it now

Musicforsnorks · 14/09/2018 14:37

I loved them for a while, styled in a sort of ‘Lisa says gah’ kinda way (embarrassed emoticon).....but now I utterlymcsnt abide wide leg cropped pants/jeans at all.

It hit me out of nowhere, like how bloody odd and blackish they look, even on a six footer, viewed from the side.

They do show off a nice waist, and suit tucked summer tees and slightly cropped tops, but they are next to impossible to style once the sun buggers off and now, even in higher end stores, it is difficult to just find a pair of full length pants ffs.

Seriously, I like wide legs when loose, flowing, not stiff like a a boat sail.
I like them to meet my foot, also.

Whilst wide leg bottoms might be a great option as an alternative to slim fit, I do think the stiff, cropped styles will fall out of vogue soon, and date badly.

Musicforsnorks · 14/09/2018 14:38

Blockish not blackish.

Musicforsnorks · 14/09/2018 14:40

And those super high waist paper bag pants and skirts that destroy my natural waistline and tickle my nipples.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 14/09/2018 14:40

Stuff like this described as “stunning”.

Furry sliders.... ragged hems... fuzzy coats. I don't mind a t-shirt with a phrase or lettering per se (like Electric West) but 'Groovy chick' and 'rock n roll' make me cringe! I am currently wearing a Hush blouse with a star pattern so I guess just throw me in the sea!

EdinaMonsoon · 14/09/2018 16:45

Those bloody Golden Goose trainers that look like they were found in the charity shop but are actually over £200 per pair. Emperor's new clothes and all that.

Unicorn anything on anyone over the age of 10.

Acrylic knitwear - nails down chalkboard every time you move due to that weird "crunch/squeak" noise they make. Plus give you hot-flushes, regardless of hormonal status. Did we not learn anything from the 70's? See also "Polyester".

Cropped wide-leg jeans/heavy cotton trousers. They make the most willow-like person look short & stumpy and yet seem to be particularly popular with petite women.

I don't mind the occasional slogan knit. Bella Freud version are perfectly acceptable, as were the original Chinti & Parker versions. I do own a Hush "Love" knit from 2 years ago but the "Rock N Roll" ones are totally naff.

This thread has pretty much named everything that makes any clothes interesting now so being in room 101 seems preferable to being outside of it now
But not all things that are interesting look good.

There is a look at a local FE college to me (And I've seen it in some of our 6th form students too) which seems to be fluffy sliders, 3/4 length baggy trousers and oversized jumpers (think 90s). I don't understand it. It looks ridiculous.

Baggy jumpers I get
3/4 length baggy trousers can be nice if you get the right cut for your build and the print/colour is right (most of them are horrible though).
Fluffy sliders are hideous always.

They look daft but being 17/18 it sort of works.

MaisyPops · 14/09/2018 16:49

Can I also add the fake rock girl look?

E.g. Iron Maiden t shirts with rips in them with ripped jeans worn by fashion consciois women in their 20s who have never listened to rock music and probably spent most of their teen years laughing at those of us who did because the alternative kids were always considered to be a bit weird.

EdinaMonsoon · 14/09/2018 16:53

MaisyPops yes! If you don't own the album/can't name at least half a dozen of their tracks, why on earth are you wearing the shirt? The profusion of Bowie tee shirts 2 years ago was particularly cringe.

starkid · 14/09/2018 17:01

Dislike- cold shoulder jumpers, leopard print, sock-boots, tops with massive slogans, pom-pom sliders, jeans which are too short, tops/dresses which show your bra at the back, 3/4 length sleeved tops (useless), massive boxy coats, playsuits, off-the-shoulder tops (useless again), bodywarmers (ultra useless!),

However I do like & own- lightning bolts, stars, rainbows/rainbow-print, cold-shoulder summer tops, 3/4 length vertical-stripe wide-leg trousers, slip-on trainers, patterned blouses, some graphics/fun things on t-shirts,

The stripey wide trousers- don't knock until you've tried them! I was dubious, but they actually looked really nice on me. And some of the clothes e.g. the 'fun' t-shirts are for round the house/under hoodies and mostly for my own personal enjoyment rather than fashion!

Clionba · 14/09/2018 17:06

EdinaMonsoon a thousand recommends for the Golden Goose trainer hatred. All the bloggers have them, but they are filthy, ugly and very very expensive!

Isentthesignal · 14/09/2018 17:18

I don’t always dress to flatter - sometimes I just like the way something looks - I like to play with proportions. I wear fairly androgynous clothing anyway - I’m a tall slim hourglass and I know I’m supposed to wear tailored clothing that accentuates and flatters my shape but I refuse to comply! 😜

snowsun · 14/09/2018 17:47

I can't bear Breton tops. Shapeless and frumpy. I think I may be the only one though

I'm going to make a confession.. I own two cold shoulder tops and both of them I like Blush

Seriously though, whilst I dislike some of the things on this thread there's not an awful lot left. Literally just plain straight legged trousers and plain t-shirts & jumpers? In neutral colours? That's what my nan wears! She dresses beautifully for her age but she's 80. I don't want to look "I'm mental me" but at the same time I hate dressing boringly, I really don't want to look like a pensioner.

Sometimes I think I hate furry sliders and ripped jeans but I see them on a 16 year old and I can appreciate the look and effort, even if it's not my taste. But with plain thisrts trouser look I just think meh. One thing that does get me is teenage fashion in adult shops, please go back to new look pompom shoes and dusky pink!

What do you wear OP?

Clionba · 14/09/2018 17:55

I own that very breton top Blush!

woodhill · 14/09/2018 17:58

Yes Storm those fluffy sliders remind me of George and Mildred 70s fluffy slippers and polyester negligees

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 14/09/2018 18:00

Isentthesignal I agree! I'm slim and a bit pear shaped. I know what's supposed to flatter my figure but the I rarely find that it actually looks good. It just looks a bit middle aged/gok wan.
I prefer to try different shapes and things, also at the end of the day I'm not trying to look attractive or nice, sometimes I just like things so I wear them. I think my outfits look good even if they are not designed to flatter my figure.

Bluelady · 14/09/2018 18:02

I've got about 20 Breton tops, they're virtually my uniform, shall I put a gun to my head now?

Fadingmemory · 14/09/2018 18:13

Flappy half-mast trousers. Hated the hipster thong-show off look, fortunately less seen these days. I do wear Breton tops though. (Gets Joules coat - not the yellow one!)
