Best soap for showers?

Sleepyslops · 30/08/2018 10:32

This is really embarrassing, but I have noticed today that my armpits smell sweaty. I have had a shower about 90 mins ago, but they smell a bit already. I haven't even been doing anything - I literally put my deodorant on and a clean top then sat down to work on my computer.

I shower using pears bar soap and give my pits a good lather with the soap. The smell is definitely my skin and not my (clean, freshly washed) top.

Can anyone advise of perhaps a better one to use? I'm so worried that I will smell to other people.

Does the top smell ok? And is it an antiperspirant you're using?
I like dettol soap but I have to use an antibacterial one anyway for my armpits!

Sitranced · 30/08/2018 11:33

Are you sure it's not your clothes? I have older tops/tshirt with hard to remove sweat smells from the arm pits which don't smell when clean on but start to whiff when close to a warm body.

I bought Pears soap recently and discovered it doesn’t wash sweat off! Shite soap. I still had a bar of lemon soap and that did the trick. Not buying Pears again.

Another tip is to also apply deodorant at bedtime, apparently it works better, as you’re less active, to sink in and prohibit the production of sweat.
I’ve been trying it and it does seem to work - for me anyway, but I do also reapply after my shower :-)

I love this one. It’s really scrubby so you feel very clean.

I’m using a tea-tree one from Sainsbury’s at the moment, which is good. However, the best I’ve found is Shield. Great at cleaning and leaving fresh scent.

mycatplotsdeath · 30/08/2018 19:04

Shield soap does wonders for whiffy pits and feet

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2018 21:34

I use a Sainsbury own brand white soap (pack of 4 less than £2) and PitRok on damp skin.
I'm menopausal and found my roll on just wasn't doing it.
I bought a Schmidts deoderant but its very soft and I need something that wouldn't melt.
PitRok is amazing Grin (but you need to have hair free pits)

SuburbanRhonda · 30/08/2018 21:38

I’ve heard that Cidal soap is good for this as it’s anti-bacterial.

Two-pack from Boots is £1.99 Smile

We're working our way through various brands of soap at the moment.

We're currently on this one which is the best so far:-

Cussons Mild Cream Soap

hugoagogo · 30/08/2018 21:44

I am enjoying beco honey blossom soap right now £3 from waitrose, but lasts for ages and only wrapped in card!Smile

Palmolive

fishonabicycle · 31/08/2018 09:02

We use Faith in nature - don't seem to be smelly.

Sakura7 · 31/08/2018 11:25

Slightly more expensive than most but Nesti Dante is fab and lasts ages. Never leaves me smelly!

MoltonSilver · 31/08/2018 11:28

I use Dove soap. I have alergies to several brands.

Pears is horrible.

nothingwittyhere · 31/08/2018 12:07

Nesti Dante is brilliant soap. Comes in a hundred or so scents so only problem is choosing one!

SureIusedtobetaller · 31/08/2018 12:11

I found I got whiffy with Pears too! I assumed it was using soap but if it’s just that soap I’ll try another.

milestoneBD · 31/08/2018 12:28

There are other threads on here about Nesti Dante - I bought a few bars and its changed my bathing habits! Skin is in best condition its been for ages, rough skin on upper arms has vanished, and both me & the bathroom smell divine!

Ovaltine1 · 31/08/2018 13:48

Waitrose essential Bluebells soap. 4 for a pound or so. Grin

HavingALittleBabyToolshed · 31/08/2018 14:23

Pears used to be great but it went crap about 4/5 years ago and they reduced the size of the bars too!

I use the Sanex Dermo Sensitive at the moment and really enjoy it. It keeps me whiff free and oddly the bar is nicely shaped for small hands, I struggle with some bars of soap (esp) v fancy ones because they are often too large.
I buy a four pack in Morrisons for £2.37 but they have it in Home Bargains for under £2 now.

NannyR · 31/08/2018 14:30

I love nesti dante too - especially the villages and monasteries fragrance. But I agree about some clothes holding body odour smells even after washing - I have a lovely cotton shirt that I've worn loads, it's been through hot wash cycles and been ironed at hot temp and it looks and smells clean, but when I wear it it does start to smell of stale bo after a short while, to the point that I can't really wear it anymore.

EvaHarknessRose · 31/08/2018 14:33

My favourites are Dr Bonner Peppermint and Body Shop Moringa.

PorridgeIsYummy · 31/08/2018 14:34

Hi, I like using soap but find the gloopy residue it leaves on the soap dish quite revolting. I like the ones that come with a rope, but most of those are aimed at children and poor quality.

Can anybody recommend a good soap on a rope?

NannyR · 31/08/2018 14:49

porridge you can buy wire soap dishes and ones that drain any water away so there's no gloop and the bar stays dry and firm.

DeadZed · 31/08/2018 15:08

I think the level of gloopiness does depend on the brand of soap. Mil brought me 12 bars if French soap from France about three years ago and it lasts for ages. It also doesn't turn gloopy in the soap dish.
