WEEK FOUR WWW's 10yy bootcamp, all welcome

WideWebWitch · 04/06/2007 07:33

This is week 4 of the fourth boot camp of 2007 , everyone is welcome.

Veils drawn over last week

The rules (anyone can join):

This is about feeling better about yourself...not necessarily a diet per se etc etc

  • Sunscreen at all times. I know it's winter, there are still rays trying to damage your skin
  • No or little booze. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage

I am exhausted. Think I'll have to miss tonight's swimming - I fell asleep this afternoon while ostensibly reading DD2 a story!

I must stay up to watch the last Ugly Betty, though.

Have you seen it??? (and where?) But no spoilers please...

I have walked a fair bit today but it was at the pace of a four year old. Wore sunscreen. And ate fruit and so on. But suspect that there is overall Not Much Change, alas.

turquoise · 08/06/2007 18:37

For once I can come back and rave about how good I've been:
Lots of walking, half an hour of weights and stretches and a few sit ups.
Went out to fabulous mexican for lunch and was revoltingly abstemious due to wheat bloating - no sol, no margaritas, no nachos, no tacos - just chicken salad (even left the croutons) and water.
Otherwise have just had:
Porridge
Nectarine
3 coffees and a ginger bar from the health shop.

yoyo · 08/06/2007 20:52

I went to the gym again this morning and am making real progress both with stamina and strength. I am even enjoying it! I am fortunate in that it's only a short walk away and I haven't found that it eats into my time to do other things (although time on MN has been reduced which is probably a good thing anyway).

I was told that I was looking much younger this morning - the Boots stuff? This thread? The gym? The new haircut? A combination of all these I think.

Am feeling tired but happy and am going to have a soak and start a new book.

Have a great weekend everyone.

iota · 08/06/2007 20:58

I went to the gym this morning, but have ruined all my hard work by stuffing my face with a huge curry and a big fat pershwari naan.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/06/2007 21:33

I am a running addict. I ran 2km in the pouring rain at 9am this morning and then did a mile in just under 8 minutes before school pick-up (sorry for mixed measures, comes of being born in the 60's)! My knees hurt now. But I don't run on weekends so they can have a rest before Monday.

Very good on the water, handcream & moisturiser. I have eaten...
Wholemeal toast & marmite, orange juice, coffee.
Wholemeal toast & scrambled egg, coffee.
Apple
Beef ravioli in tomatoey sauce (which had at least 5 vegetables in it), salad (mostly from the garden no less) and a thin slice of foccacia. Elderflower cordial.
Coffee.

Will round off the week with a bath, moisturiser & pedicure.

Pamina - don't worry about the weight, you're probably toning/building muscle and may find you drop a dress size even though you are temporarily a few pounds heavier.

Thanks MrBatters - thought I hadn't seen her around.

Another good day for me - am on a roll! Missed breakfast as children were late for swimming (tbh I haven't had breakfast since ds2 was born, as there just isn't time in the morning). Lunch - made sandwiches, hot dog sausages and dippy vegetables (carrots and cucumber sticks with philadelphia light). Had lots of veggies, a tiny bit of philadelphia LIGHT, and one 1/4 cheese sandwich (so half a piece of bread). Lots of water. Snacks - a nectarine, lots of raspberries, strawberries, a few dried apricots. Tea will be spag bol, then nothing else. Not much exercise as have been looking after the children.

glitterfairy · 09/06/2007 18:33

Have had a small hiccup with wine on Thursday this week but had a friend round . Anyway since then have done a quick two mile run and resting today prior to my 10k tomorrow. Am having trout for tea and made myself a lovely greek salad for lunch.

winnie · 09/06/2007 21:11

I have been into Cardiff today to meet a dear friend for lunch and to have a Clarins facial. Don't know how I drove home I felt so relaxed. Bliss.

Am slightly astonished as the therapist told me my skin is dehydrated I drink at least 1.5 ltres of water 5/7 days. Any tips?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/06/2007 00:29

Winnie - things that dehydrate skin - air conditioning, central heating, sun, wind, salt, pollution and age.

Do you use a rich moisturiser? Foundation/powder probably has an effect too as would a very astringent cleanser. I try to have at least one make-up free day a week.

I put face cream on in the morning and often put more on later in the day. I used to have very dry skin but I'm winning the war!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/06/2007 10:40

batters - did you have a good time? I'm sure you danced off your burger. Unlike me, who sat through 3 hours of Captain Jack Sparrow whilst eating half of a huge carton of sweet popcorn.

But my racing heart had quite a workout

I'm just going to walk the dog on the forest so that's my exercise for the day. And I've heaps of gardening to do later if it stays fine.

It's my birthday tomorrow so I am licenced to sin!

motherinferior · 10/06/2007 10:50

I need you lot to kick me into touch . Please. Seriously. I am a few pounds over what I'd like to be, and am glum about this not least because I've convinced myself that now I'm 44 this is the start of an ever increasing spread till I am one of those rotundly mannish late middle aged ladies.

Exercise is fairly fine - I did another 60 yesterday first thing - but I have to eat/drink less!

This is not unconnected to the fact I then went shopping yesterday and decided either I was a strange malformed monstrosity OR that all the clothes out there are v odd indeed. You should see me in a smock. Or rather, don?t. Not pretty. And not clever.

And then I came back and had some wine, and a takeout curry, and a couple of Very Expensive chocolates from generous best mate. Which is clearly adding to my increasing girth.

[pah]

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/06/2007 11:12

Hey, MI

But you swim so much - you should be able to eat badly, at least sometimes. I don't do diets - I do not have the willpower to live permanently on a no chocolate/cake/biscuit/butter/cream sauces regime so I exercise harder by way of compensation. It works for me.

Are you absolutely worn out after swimming - heart pumping etc? If not, you may need to get in the habit of doing a couple of hard aerobic sessions each week - fast 10 minute runs or an exercise class because it's better for burning off fat. What about a personal trainer to come and bully you? Very glam, and you could write about it.

motherinferior · 10/06/2007 14:23

you're right.

Actually when I start this job writing about health am planning to Explore New Exercise Options. I don't actually want to explore new options, but I suspect that I'll get the opportunity and it would be a pity to look a temporarily gifted personal trainer in the mouth. So to speak.

glitterfairy · 10/06/2007 15:10

Personal trainers make all the difference imo. Mine was a present from my dad for Christmas and birthday for 6 months and am now addicted.

Winne have you tried mixing your foundation with moisturiser and factor 15 then you get an all in one on your face. It really works and feels great. Someone said my skin was dry and I am a water reservoir. It wasnt dry it jsut needed some tlc.

Marina · 10/06/2007 19:40

I am back on the wagon and back from France
I do get douze points for happiness though, we had a totally magical holiday, even if I am a lardy mosquito snack-bar and dd fell down the caravan steps and looks as though she has been in a fight (again). Caravans, with their lavish use of mirrors to create an illusion of space, are not flattering places to spend time in I have to say
Lots of you have been enviably good last week, I shall scroll through the tips later. I forgot my Moron too, although I expect it would have been requesting a free transfer to glitterfairy or norksbride's houses by Wednesday
Happy belated b'day MI

yoyo · 10/06/2007 21:10

Went to the gym again today - just me and the iPod for 90 mins and it was bliss. Had a really good workout and came home feeling very happy. Have also eaten well and bodybrushed, applied the lotions, drank loads of water. In fact, the only thing letting me down is my bed time but the late nights are usually because DH and I are chatting so high on happiness factor.

Welcome back after your holiday Marina. Sounds like you had a lovely time.

tortoiseSHELL · 10/06/2007 21:14

Welcome back marina! Glad you had a good time - poor dd! I think forgetting the moron is an entirely good thing for a holiday!

Have been good today - in fact, have hardly eaten a thing, just half a cheese (low fat cheese) roll at lunchtime, and some raspberries. Had about 1.5 litres of water as well. Will have something for tea in a minute, when I can find something, feeling so much more energetic!

prufrock · 10/06/2007 21:43

I'm ending the week feeling very proud of myslef. I think I have finally got my head round certain aspects of a healthy lifestyle and am actively enjoying it.

friday I was v. good again- Sprnt all day shopping and treated myself to lunch of a huge sushi-fest at the Japanese retaurant at the very top end of town, so healthy food and exercise getting there. I didn't go to the gym, but I did on Saturday morning - with my personla trainer (who has been training dh for 6 months) it was a totally different, and tbh hellish experience, but by combining 2 hard sessions a week with her with daily 30 minutes on acrdio equipment in front of the Tv I am determined to look good by the time I go on holiday. MI - Duch is right - you do need to do more than just comfy swimming to make a real difference in terms of weight or body shape.
