So £700-£900
Use everyday
Cross body or shoulder strap
Decent capacity but not massive.
Will last

What would you buy?

I'd buy a used/nearly new bag. With its credentials i.e. receipt or whatever.

butterry · 16/08/2018 08:32

My favourite cross body is Proenza Schouler PS1 style but they are not popular here so no one would know it’s a designer bag. The design is perfect, I love the pocket on the back for my phone and travel card and the size of it. It’s not heavy like most designer bags. I have a few now, different sizes and colours.

nooddsocksforme · 16/08/2018 08:36

Mulberry small Bayswater satchel or mulberry Amberley satchel

nooddsocksforme · 16/08/2018 08:38

You can get an Alexa on the Facebook sites selling mulberry’s - or there are online stores such as naughtypidgeons nest or finer things Aberdeen . I think you can get them at the mulberry outlet stores too if you are near one

hammeringinmyhead · 16/08/2018 09:26

They're only £595 but I'd buy a Coach saddle bag.

uk.coach.com/coach-designer-crossbody-saddle-bag-in-burnished-glovetanned-leather/38199.html?cgid=women-handbags-shoulder-bags&dwvar_color=BPHGR#srule=price-high-to-low&sz=24&start=27&cgid=women-handbags-shoulder-bags

I have a Bayswater but the best quality "designer" bag I have is a Coach Scout Hobo.

championquartz · 16/08/2018 09:40

Ooh we haven't had a bag thread for a while!
I was wondering what the angle would be, and I see you mad the money selling crystal meth. Interesting. Wink

I know it's been mentioned OP but I second (or third) a bench.

Cakemonger · 16/08/2018 09:42

ShirleyPhallus Ah yes, if you can do both that's clearly ideal Smile

squeaver · 16/08/2018 09:45

Aspinal are doing lovely bags at the mo

Whwhywhy · 16/08/2018 10:01

Sorry, being totally dumb but what is a bench?

Googling got me nowhere

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 16/08/2018 10:13

Re the bench thing:

Whenever there is a thread about handbags people always get their knickers in a twist and spout utter bollocks, usually fuelled I assume by jealously of not being able to afford luxury items

“I’d buy a bag from Primark and then have a holiday”
“I’d buy a plastic bag and donate the rest to charity”
“Oh I could never spend that much on myself!!!! I’d treat the kids / buy a new buggie etc etc”
“Why not put it in savings?”

And for one poster, the response was “I’d feel really selfish buying something for myself so would put it towards something everyone could enjoy - why not buy a bench for the garden so the whole family can use it instead”

Note - these are ALWAYS answers on “I’d like a new handbag to the tune of £1k” threads which seem to attract these comments like flies to shit

ShirleyPhallus · 16/08/2018 10:17

Can’t find the original thread but this gives you an idea

Selfridges have got some beautiful bags at the moment, have you thought about Stella McCartney? Ethically made and lovely.

Loewe is also meant to be a brilliant long-lasting handbag brand but I don’t have any myself to can’t vouch for that!

tinytemper66 · 16/08/2018 10:28

I would rather go on holiday than buy a bag for that amount of money. I like bags but not for that price.
However if you can afford it, buy whatever you fancy.

Shutupanddance1 · 16/08/2018 10:52

I’d say go the used market and get a Chanel?

I’ve about 8 bags, all I’ve spent in and around couple hundred each. I’ve a Marc by Marc Jacob that I got second hand 10 years ago which is still in fantastic nick. That said, I don’t buy more than one a year and I don’t buy cheap bags as they tend to fall apart after some wear and tear.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 16/08/2018 11:12

I have a Dior drawstring cannage in silver lambskin I can pass you on within that budget Grin ...

Longislandicetee · 16/08/2018 12:00

How about Smythson Panama, Chloé Faye (not Marcie as it's too heavy) or the Gucci Marmont? All very different styles.

heattreated · 16/08/2018 12:03

ah, so that's what the bench is about, LOVE it!

Abra1de · 16/08/2018 12:05

Look at Demellier and Hill and Friends for bags that are least as gorgeous but better value.

I have theee Mulberry bags but never buy new from there. If you want a Mulberry check out the Facebook Mulberry groups where new and nearly new bags go for reasonable prices.

Brummiegirl15 · 16/08/2018 12:17

Mulberry. Always.

Love my Bayswater.

I have a small Lily and would love a bigger one

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 16/08/2018 12:18

I'd do it with no regret!

MenaMecca · 16/08/2018 12:43

And the LV Speedy Bandouliere will last, too.

Personally, if I have that money, I'd save some more and buy a Chanel wallet on chain.

MenaMecca · 16/08/2018 12:45

Also if you get the LV Speedy B, you can use it and sell it when you're bored with it, and still recoup over half of what you paid for (close if it's in very good condition!)

StylishMummy · 16/08/2018 12:48

Mulberry swap & sell on Facebook is a great site, the admins authenticate everything and you can get bags that have been carried once or twice for half the price of new

The finer things Aberdeen also have a sale on at the moment

VoteHillary · 16/08/2018 12:48

Agree with a Mulberry but I wouldn't buy a full price one these days. I'd wait for the sale in December or head to Cheshire Oaks / Bicester.

Abra1de · 16/08/2018 13:15

Also recommend Exclusively Mulberry, Just Mulberry and Totally Addicted to Mulberry.
