Mascara Holy Grail?

PickleSarnie · 05/08/2018 15:38

I'm trying to find a mascara that lengthens, thickens, doesn't clump or flake or leave me looking like Alice Cooper by the end of the day

Currently using Bobbi Brown Smudge Free. Which doesn't smidge but doesn't really give a massive amount of oomph to my eyelashes. I've spent a fortune over the years trying to find a perfect mascara.

Does one exist? Don't mind how much it costs if it's good.

I'm trying paradise mascara at the moment, it's a L'Oréal one. It's got quite a bit of welly but not my favourite kind of brush. I like the wands like you get in Max Factor masterpiece rather than a bushy brush.

I have about 6 different mascaras on the go at present but none of them are The One

I love Yves St Lauren false lash effect I think it's called. And it smells amazing.

laramara · 05/08/2018 16:50

Hourglass Caution extreme lash comes highly recommended in the Times yesterday.

BrewDoggy · 05/08/2018 23:57

I like Benefit mascara and also Japanese ones like Majolica Majorca lash expander as well as KissMe Heroine mascara.

FountainOfYouth · 06/08/2018 00:03

Lancome Doll Eyes. I am another mascara obsessive & this is my holy grail :)

ClandestineAdulation · 06/08/2018 00:08

I like the Benefit Bad Gal Bang (though I cringe at the name) also the L’Oréal Paradise Lash mascara too.

Elledorado · 06/08/2018 09:39

Diorshow iconic overcurl. It's expensive so I'm regularly trying others but NOTHING comes close for me

PickleSarnie · 06/08/2018 09:58

Thanks all. Im going to go take a look at the hourglass one in the Space NK next to work. Normally I avoid it because I can't be trusted but will put my blinkers on and resist all the loveliness that I don't need and head straight for mascara!

I spent years trying to find a great mascara and last year discovered L'Oreal Million Dollar Lashes Feline- it's sooo good. Prior to this I had tried Benefit, L'ancombe hypnosis, Chanel
Dimensions - so many. I've repurchase the L'Oréal one three times now- it doesn't smudge or go clumpy, and people comment on my lashes since I've been using it. Only cheap too so win win!

IWouldLikeToKnow · 06/08/2018 10:19

I find that Benefit They're Real is the only one I've tried that stays put. Bad gal and Bad Gal Bang flakes off so much on me. I keep trying others but always revert back to They're Real.

paceyswife · 06/08/2018 10:56

Another vote here for the L'Oréal paradise one - the primer is also pretty good.

Whistle73 · 06/08/2018 11:33

Estée Lauder Double Wear. The only mascara I've ever used that doesn't leave me with panda eyes.

MrsW85 · 06/08/2018 11:42

Benefit's bag gal bang or they're real are both amazing

CookiesandQueen · 06/08/2018 12:14

I really like Soap and Glory's Thick and Fast mascara. I'm poorly endowed when it comes to lashes but this actually makes them look decent.

Maliali · 06/08/2018 12:27

Benefits They’re Real and Ester Lauder DW both leave me with panda eyes

TheCraicDealer · 06/08/2018 14:01

I've given up spending £££ on mascara after the bullshit that was Legendary Lashes by Charlotte Tilbury. I've tried benefit, Lancôme, Chanel, Too Faced and others over the years and I've just come to the conclusion that they're no better than L'Oréal or Maybelline. It's a complete swizz imv and I'm happy to cut it!

Currently using L'Oreal Paradise and it's easily comparable to Too Faced Better Than Sex or Charlotte Tilbury Full Fat Lashes, both of which were my only premium mascara repurchases.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/08/2018 14:12

I keep going back to Hypnose by Lancôme. But a really good dupe for it is the Collection one (same shape tube.) it's not AS good, but then the Lancôme one isn't £17 better.

slinkysaluki · 06/08/2018 18:28

I've got Eyeko Black Magic it's really good

themagicamulet · 06/08/2018 18:40

Clinique Lashpower. I've tried them all at every price point and I will be using this one until they (inevitably...) discontinue it. Only one that stays put throughout the day and better imo than EL DW.

rightknockered · 06/08/2018 18:55

IT superhero mascara, best one I've tried and I have used all those listed above and others

vaz119 · 06/08/2018 19:35

I have short lashes that also lack volume. I have tried about a million mascaras but my favourite is chanel Le volume!

But I recently purchased a mascara primer from Japan on ebay by Kanebo Kate. I think it's called Lash Maximiser and its amazing. Really holds a curl, thickens and lengthens! And even my cheap mascaras look miles better over it!

Winning combination (after about 20 years experimenting!)... Curl lashes with a curler slightly heated with my hairdryer, apply lash maximiser then Chanel Le Volume mascara.... Absolutely amazing lashes

(and I also bought revitalash which has been great for adding a bit of length but not volume)

MinesaPinot · 06/08/2018 22:29

Lancôme Definicils was The One, then I discovered Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme....then Benefit They're Real....(you can see where this is going can't you)

Belatedly, and just as they were discontinuing it, I discovered No. 17 HDFalsify. Really good, lengthening and non-smudging. Loved it so much I went and bought four which should last me for a while.

Still love They're Real though, for a treat. Off on holiday soon so I'll pick one up at Gatwick.

DragonNoodleCake · 06/08/2018 22:34

I always recommend Lancôme hypnose on these threads, always try others, always go back to this

MyYoniFromHull · 07/08/2018 00:13

I've just come on holiday and bought a Bad Gal Bang and a lancome grandiose from duty free so I'll see if I rate either of those

Elledorado · 07/08/2018 08:35

I'm goinf to have to try the Loreal one now (& no doubt then inevitably bin it when it stings, clumps and runs into my contact lenses)
