Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10
Thread 11 Thread 12 Thread 13 Thread 14 Thread 15

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

I've just found this on the medik8 site so think I might give it a go, I usually get the itching within 1-2 weeks.

RETURNS
We offer a 30-Day Returns Policy

Purchase direct from Medik8.com with confidence, and definitely no hassle. If you are not completely satisfied with any Medik8 product you receive, you may return it, even if you have tried it. We ask that any product must be returned to us at least half full within 30 days after purchase. You will then receive a full product refund or product exchange as you prefer.

Contact us to get a returns number and we will provide instructions how to send back. If the goods are being returned because they were incorrectly supplied, then we will also refund the return postage costs.

mintmagnummm · 11/09/2018 19:57

Sallie I can vouch for their customer care as I had to return their physical spf due to a reaction and they refunded me with no problem at all

mintmagnummm · 11/09/2018 20:17

I got my c tetra from amazon though (they also accept returns)

SallieSallow · 11/09/2018 20:28

Thank you Mint I'll order from amazon (never thought to look on there for it!) as it's a bit cheaper and I have free delivery and returns with amazon prime.

Violet18 · 11/09/2018 20:52

Sallie The Medik8 returns policy is 30 days with the product still half full.

JDSTER I have oily skin too and don't use any moisturiser after the Medik8 3TR as my skin doesn't seem to need it.

Violet18 · 11/09/2018 20:53

Sorry Sallie replied before reading the rest of the thread GrinBlush

mintmagnummm · 11/09/2018 21:05

No worries Sallie I remembered you had prime so thought that would be better for you.

SallieSallow · 11/09/2018 21:15

No worries Violet Grin I do that all the time - or type too slowly!

I've ordered on amazon now thanks Mint I needed a few other things (not skincare related) so got a nice big parcel winging it's way to me Smile

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2018 07:03

I hope you like it Sally

Does anyone know of any good wind proof umbrellas that are not huge? And id like a clear one if poss?

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2018 16:12

My medik8 3tr arrived today, I got a sample size of the 6tr in with my order if anyone would like it?

SallieSallow · 12/09/2018 19:49

I got a good umbrella from Qvc a couple of years ago Mint it's not blown inside out on me yet but I'm not very outdoorsy so have never tested it in very extreme conditions. And it's bright red, not clear Grin

I'll pass on the medik8 sample thank you for the offer Smile but I've got the Vit c on it's way so don't want to add anything else right now.

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2018 20:31

Sallie can you remember what that umbrella was called? No worries about the sample, let me know what you think of the vit c when you start using it.

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2018 20:32

Oh just realised you said it was bright red, red clashes with my gingerness 😂

SallieSallow · 12/09/2018 20:59

It did come in other colours Mint Grin but I can't see it on the QVC website anymore, the brand is Windguard.

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2018 21:28

Oh I think I've heard of windguard Sallie, thank you. I'll have a google tomorrow, off to bed now as have one of my migraines coming on :-(

Ollivander84 · 13/09/2018 00:49

So a photographer I work with went to the beauty bay launch tonight for their new own brand makeup palettes
I joked "steal them all and any goody bags"
He's got me all three palettes BlushGrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin my face is like this

Cakecrumbs · 13/09/2018 10:39

Hello all, firstly I want to say thank you for this brill thread, I suffer from adult acne and as a result my skin is in a terrible state from all the marks it has been leaving. I have started to slowly follow the adult acne skincare guide and will keep you updated with my progress.
So on to my question, is this a facial skincare only thread or is anyone able to help me with hand skincare? My hands are starting to look quite old and I have no idea how to look after them. I am quite outdoorsy, horses, gardening, walking so they definitely need a bit of tlc, I'd like them to look nice when anyone looks at them as I am trying to do some dating at the moment!

BabyPigeon83 · 13/09/2018 12:58

@Ollivander84 I just saw an email from beautybay with the new palettes, they look good and they seem really big. Are the shadows creamy and pigmented ?

@Cakecrumbs Before someone more knowledgeable comes on to reply, I can say that the skin on hands needs to be treated the same as skin on the face. Protect them from sub exposure with SPF moisturizers, always use gloves when gardening or doing something rough with your hands or when it's cold, wash them with gentle soap, if you use antibacterial gels with alcohol swap it for antibacterial foams without alcohol.. For sun spots and signs on aging AHA is good and also retinol.
Of course, all this applies to the skin on the body but the areas that are more exposed to the elements need more care : hands, neck, chest, face.

EnidButton · 13/09/2018 13:12

Oooooh! Any pics please Olli? You lucky devil! Grin

EnidButton · 13/09/2018 13:18

I use body scrubs on my hands once a week. A Soap & Glory one (Sugar Crush, gorgeous sweet citrus smell and lots of oils) and a hand one by Essie. The Essie one is brilliant for dry skin around my nails. Really refreshes them, just remember to put plenty of moisturiser on afterwards.

If your hands are very dry it might be the soap you're using. I ran out of my usual and just one day of using Carex Sensitive (!) made my knuckles tight and dry. I love Souper Dooper hand washes (think Tesco still sells them) but any claiming to be moisturising should be ok.

Tsmummy08 · 13/09/2018 17:11

Olli Lucky lady! That's a massve pallett and the colours are great - what are they like and how do they compare to MUG, ABH etc? I'm assuming they're aiming at Morphe customers?

Ollivander84 · 13/09/2018 17:16

Better than makeup revolution, possibly not quite as good as MUG
I have all three... Blush

Gorgeous palettes Olli 😍

I barely wear eyeshadow anymore and when I do I stick to neutrals now but I lust after palettes like those with gorgeous vibrant colours. Unfortunately vibrant colours no longer suit me Sad so I just have to admire from afar.

I'm a bit negligent about hand care, I slap on hand chemistry hand cream twice a day, spf in the morning and that's it. I'm ok with the cheaper hand washes like carex but posh ones like molton brown make me itchy Confused

Enid I posted up thread but not sure if you saw, I found this hand cream on VH, possible replacement for HC. Amazon and Feelunique etc sell it as well.
