Full pouty lips.
Round face which I used to hate when I was younger but now very thankful for.
Sunblock.
Don't smoke. Don't drink.
Asian genes.

50andgoingstrong · 26/06/2018 13:38

This is such an interesting thread. So many of you looking far younger than you are.

Sadly I'm the opposite. I definately look my age. Don't drink, smoke, low carb , yoga, sleep, all that.

Still, I look my age. I have a thin face and a very craggy forehead (genetic) which I'm sure Botox would help. I'm very tempted. Any recommendations in s London or Surrey?

dingodollarman · 26/06/2018 15:50

The Britains got talent panel (cowell and Holden especially) are why you shouldn't do Botox!

ChateauneufDuTwat · 26/06/2018 15:55

These threads are always so interesting to me. It's always the same, scores of posters frequently being told they look a decade younger than their age yet out of all the women I know in real life, no such phenomenon exists.

Strange.

RoseWhiteTips · 26/06/2018 16:16

It’s a bit like The Daily Mail in that respect.

RoseWhiteTips · 26/06/2018 16:21

Define frumpy, please - those who say they would never wear anything “frumpy”?

RoseWhiteTips · 26/06/2018 16:22

I agree with those who say looking better than your age is genetic.it really is not down to potionsz

I agree with this.

Same as Serendipite as far as wearing SPF and a round face/pouty lips. Other top tips: have large eyes and smoke at least 10 Marlboro Lights a day. Works for me 🖒 I am one of these people you speak of, i've been jammy as fuck with looking young.

Notquiteagandt · 26/06/2018 16:33

Dont cake make up on.

Drink water and a healthy diet.

Genetics mainly.

Never smoked.

Pale rather than tanned.

I also drink alot of gin!!! Jokes aside seen many an article rescently of elderly ladies in their centurian years claiming gin ia tbwir secret to a long life GrinWine

Frumpy to me would be a patterned tunic style top with leggings and mum boots...i.e.horrible sludge Brown round toe flat boots.

formerbabe · 26/06/2018 17:03

Other things are frumpy obviously just describing what I'd find frumpy on me...36 year old average mum...I know plenty of 36 year old average mums would wear that and to me, it would totally tell the world that you're a 36 year old average mum.

RoseWhiteTips · 26/06/2018 17:45

Oh yeah, the White Stuff “look”. Bleurgh

OhTheRoses · 26/06/2018 17:52

Looks at white stuff frock. Comfy. Rather like it over nearly 60ish body. Wearing one tomorrow too Grin

formerbabe · 26/06/2018 17:58

Ok I know this sounds awful but some women have frumpy figures. It's not about weight...it's the shape. Hard to describe but it's a kind of a solid, boxy, slightly overweight shape...you can be overweight and have a nice curvy shape to you, so it's not about size as such. Hope that doesn't sound bitchy Blush

Like l was saying earlier many people don’t realise you can still look youthful/ younger in your 40’s 50’s if you’ve taken care of yourself.
Those aren’t decades where you’d expect to see an ‘old lady’ - but some people think you do.
That’s why l think so many people think l’m younger than l am ( 47)
They really think l am around 30/35.
They think my 20yr old son is my ‘partner’ and that l couldn’t possibly be anywhere near my actual age.
There are masses of well groomed, still very attractive women beyond 25. Society hasn’t caught up!
I have all the bits that come with age - yet no one can see it?! ConfusedGrin

LadyOfTheCanyon · 26/06/2018 19:34

Genes definitely in my case. I'm 48 and regularly people think I'm 10 years younger but I have a plumpish face with hardly any wrinkles.

I take an interest in fashion but rather than wear current trends I tend to stay on point with footwear and accessories which allow me to change things up a bit without having to wear 'trendy' clothes.

In the last few years I've taken much more care of my hair to make it streaky looking and expensive. I've toned down my make up to make sure that my skin is the best looking part of my face, well moisturised and dewy. I make sure my brows are excellent but not too OTT. I do facial massage to support the underlying structure of my face. I never sleep in makeup. I whiten my teeth. I use a light fake tan. Yes it takes time, but the difference is quite something.

None of these things I think look obvious, but the overall effect makes me look bright, well rested and happy.

Mostly I think it's my attitude. I laugh a lot. I don't take things too seriously. I am interested in current music and art and pop culture which allows me to talk to younger people on the same level.

Haven't had Botox or fillers yet but only from a cost perspective- if I could afford it I'd be at it like a rat up a drainpipe!

formerbabe · 26/06/2018 19:38

SableStar I agree. As a child in the 80s, I used to see lots of 'little old ladies'. I'm talking women who looked very elderly dressed in that stereotypical way. They were probably in their seventies. It's very rare you see very old looking people anymore..if someone does look like a stereotypical old person, they are usually very old i.e. in their late 80s or even 90s. Nowadays people in their sixties and seventies don't look like how people in their sixties and seventies used to look. No idea if I'm making sense here, hopefully you know what I mean!

formerbabe · 26/06/2018 19:41

Oh and women I know in their fifties don't look stereotypically middle aged. They wear converse or platform heels. They dress youth fully. They listen to up to date music. I think people in general just are younger for longer nowadays.

SableStar · 26/06/2018 19:44

Exactly former totally agree!
My Mum at 77 is still well groomed and takes an interest in make up and fashion!
When l look at my childhood pictures ( in the 70’s) lots of Aunties looked 80! The reality is that they were probably only 45/50. Grin
