What are your secrets/tips please?

OP posts:
OhTheRoses · 24/06/2018 20:25

From reading previous posts I should be mightily fucked then. Have smoked, drunk, tanned, partied hard and love food.

Just sneak into overweight at 58 and can pass for 48.

So, I reckon it's genes, love, laughter and money Grin with the help of a very good hairdresser add a smattering of early 20s children to keep me young and hardwork

PS my mother's 82 and still wears leather trousers. Though she's an 8 and I'm a 14 Grin But there you have it, it's abput perception, self preservation and a state of mind. And having FUN and never giving up. It's certainly not one teensy weensy bit about vanity

littlepooch · 24/06/2018 20:27

Genetic i think. My mum looks amazing for her age and my sister too.

However i dont smoke and dont really drink, eat loads of fruit and veg, water etc.

My mum also taught us to look after our skin from a very young age with a good skincare regime.

SableStar · 24/06/2018 20:29

People are flabbergasted when l tell them my age.
I just think people are not very good at guessing and knowing the tell tale signs of ‘aging’
I’m 46.
Yes, without sounding bigheaded l have been blessed with nice looks.
But l really don’t look 30... 25... or whatever age people guess me at on a regular basis! Grin
Anyway. I don’t drink, smoke or sunbathe. I’m slim and l use a very weak retinol and acid in my skincare.

Branleuse · 24/06/2018 20:30

i think i look good for my age and am fairly often told that I do. I think its down to genetics. Most of my family age well. I do use moisturiser and I colour my hair which also helps, as i am pretty much entirely grey naturally, but im only in my early 40s and not ready to embrace it yet, so still doing stupid stuff to my hair.

I think not letting myself get too thin helps too. I did lose a lot of weight a few years ago and it was really ageing. If I stick to middle to top range of a healthy BMI my face looks better

Mominatrix · 24/06/2018 20:33

Good genes, avoiding the sun, never smoking, getting adequate sleep, regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, having a relatively calm temperament.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 24/06/2018 20:34

I'm 30 and told I look 23. Never smoked or tried drugs, very light drinker. All my mates used to be on the sunbeds every day, now they have lines and wrinkles whereas my skin is still smooth and fresh looking.

Singadream · 24/06/2018 20:34

Genes. We have good skin.

OhTheRoses · 24/06/2018 20:38

Oh and my skin care routine has always been soap and water until no 7 brought oyt 3 in 1 wipes when it improved - a bit Grin

Clinicallysilly · 24/06/2018 20:58

Lots of good sex Wink

LunaTheCat · 24/06/2018 21:10

I am now early 50’s - factor 30 plus sunscreen from early spring to late autumn every day.
Not smoking.

CoconutAmericano · 24/06/2018 21:12

Im 41 and people are always shocked when I say my age. I’ve been told I look late twenties to early thirties tops. I hope that doesn’t sound big headed Blush I haven’t gone down the ‘procedures’ route yet but would consider it in the future.

I honestly think it’s mostly down to good genes on my mother’s side. None of the women in my family look their age. But what I actively do/don’t do:
I’ve never sunbathed and wear Biore watery essence factor 50 on my face every single day.
I look after my skin generally by using retin A, niacinamide, vitamin c and hyaluronic acid.
I don't smoke but I do drink.

I have a fairly stress free life and sleep well.
I like to keep my wardrobe classic but with a nod to current trends.
But it’s mainly genes..

Cellardoor23 · 24/06/2018 21:17

I think it's genes too and oily skin. Haven't had the healthiest of years so far, apart from not sun bathing, but I have been mistakenly thought to be in my early 20's (I'm 31) My mum and Gran were the same and didn't look their age.

I also think face shape plays a part. I have a round/oval face, which can look quite youthful as well.

NubianVeganQueen · 24/06/2018 21:31

nearly 35 and am mistaken for anywhere between 17 and 25 (was asked if I'm off to uni soon the other day Wink)
My genes (half Caribbean) are the biggest factor. I have relatives in their 70's who look 40. When younger I smoked occasionally, had a bad diet and drank heavily.
I'm now teetotal, never smoke and eat a whole food plant based diet. AlsoI started doing yoga six months ago and the benefits are endless.
However I'm very fond of sweet treats and caffeine so probably need to knock that on the head.

AndromedaPerseus · 25/06/2018 08:48

I do think if you have black, olive or Asian skin and live in the northern hemisphere you do age well especially if you add on a sunscreen. Good muscle tone is also essential for aging well so I do regular weight bearing exercise. Then is genes and relatively stress free life.

HRTpatch · 25/06/2018 08:52

I've never smoked and never go in the sun. SPF every day.
I do drink but I eat healthily. I should exercise more.
Im 58 and look ten years younger.

Adversecamber22 · 25/06/2018 08:54

Genetics, good for looking young on both sides but also my Dad was Chinese so have those Asian genetics:)

People tell me I look young, a lady was shocked When said was was 52 recently she thought I was under 40.

I also rarely go in the sun, I have never smoked or taken illegal drugs, I rarely drink alcohol. I eat anything but it is a bit dominated by the Asian side so lots of small amounts of lean protein, loads of veg and a little rice.

I have had a lifetime of almost never wearing make up, a Doctor told me when I went for a job medical when I was really young that it was really bad coating the skin in loads of stuff.

Confusssed · 25/06/2018 09:25

Very good genes from my Mum's side, my Grandmother, Aunt & cousin all worked as models (my Mum was very pretty, but too short).

I have never put my face in the sun. I'm 48 and only have a few very faint lines.

Rarely drink and have never smoked.

Good skin care regime.

Teeth whitening.

Flattering pixie crop which highlights my cheekbones and eyes.

Regular pedicure & manicure.

But mainly it's genes, I am very lucky.

fishonabicycle · 25/06/2018 09:28

I don't think this question really apples to people in their 30s! That is still really young and most people of that age still look great. I think 50s is the age when this is relevant. And the main thing is staying fit, slim and healthy.

QueenOfMyWorld · 25/06/2018 09:39

Botox on forehead, young but not mutton clothes,no greys showing.Im 38 but look 30

nNina22 · 25/06/2018 09:48

Rose White Tips, what’s a gym bunny face?

SableStar · 25/06/2018 09:52

I agree with you fish
In our 30’s, we are young. If you look good in your 50’s, then you really are aging well.
I’ve remembered something, it is really important to take care with the tone of your arms. I’m surprised at the amount of young people with flabby upper arms! Lift weights or do Pilates/yoga.

SableStar · 25/06/2018 09:55

nNina - probably a haggard look?
Same as woman who run too much after 40 ( unfortunately)

Ididnthearanything · 25/06/2018 10:36

There isn't really any secret is there?

It's the usual; eat well, don't smoke, don't drink alcohol, don't sunbathe.

Outside of that and ahem, interventions, it's down to luck, isn't it?

Littlechocola · 25/06/2018 10:50

Appreciate what you have before life catches up with you.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 25/06/2018 11:11

No sun.
No booze.
No kids.
