Anyone interested in an 'inexpensive but great' summer clothes thread?

I'll start Smile
It just caught me today that Matalan/Asda George/Tu have really upped their game for pretty and good quality summer holiday clothes. Not everything - there's still far too much lurid sparky polyester (same everywhere tbf)
I'm closer to 50 than 40 and a 16, M&S just don't do it for me and I outgrew topshop many years ago.
I've bought slim cropped cotton trousers in decent colours from Matalan, a really flattering chambray midi wrap dress and stretchy denim shorts from Asda and a couple of pretty tops in cotton from Tu.
I think a total of a dozen things that I'm really pleased with and spent about £100.
Anyone had a low-end epiphany?

Now then, that sounds interesting. I’m a similar age and shape to you. Got some great navy linen culottes in Asda last year, wore them to death, still looking good. I do must supermarket shopping on line, so havn’t been for a Tu/George/F&F rummage recently. I did try some shorts on in Sainsbury’s recently, but left in a strop when the 18s did not do up (i’m Usually a 14 or 16).

Sainsburys jeggings. 25% off at Sainsburys this week.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/05/2018 06:48

I really rate Sainsburys for clothes.

Candlelight123 · 22/05/2018 07:13

Last year George did some great linen blend sleeveless shirts I think k they were £10 each. I've not seen them this year, they were fab and I would love some more.

teta · 22/05/2018 09:38

Can I recommend M&S wide cropped linen trousers at under £20 ( and I have some discount codes left). I’m a 14 with a 16 tummy and these are great and flattering. I have them in every colour.
Also H&M Pima cotton nightwear is fantastic - especially for a hot menopausal 53 year old. Cool lace edged shortie pj’s and chemise. Register for the H&M club and you will get a 10% discount.

isambardo · 22/05/2018 13:08

@teta do you have a code spare that I can use? I desperately need some clothes for hols next week and have been struggling to find anything decent. Those wide linen trousers sound great!

SandAndSea · 22/05/2018 13:19

I like the look of this for £8:

I've already got 2 in the sleeveless version (bought a couple of years ago) and they've been great. They're really flattering in black and great for beach to restaurant, with a jean jacket and a big beach bag.

teta · 22/05/2018 13:25

Done isambardo .

isambardo · 22/05/2018 13:40

Amazing teta, thanks so much x

I have the wide leg cropped linens too, ive found them quite generous fitting, very comfy but ride up a bit as they have a very elasticated waist. Definitely size down if you are in between sizes.

I've placed an order today on Tu 25% off, Sainsbury's have been very good quality. Tesco's have disappointed me so far though, very odd sizing and bad materials.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 22/05/2018 14:50

I'm planning on wearing a uniform of knee length harem shorts and plain t-shirts this summer. Accessorised with my massive cast and fetching crutches! :) No skinnies or skirts for me for a while.

goose1964 · 22/05/2018 16:12

Peacocks for 100% cotton t shirts

Bejazzled · 22/05/2018 16:37

Thanks for joining in everyone Smile

The relaxed skinnies from Matalan are brilliant, so comfy and more flattering than normal skinnies on me.
I got a handkerchief hem midi skirt from Asda among my haul, it's black and white and will be great with a plain slinky top for my holidays.

BikeRunSki and Candlelight I think Asda have those culottes and shirts online so maybe back in store as well?

I have these from Matalan from last summer and they fit like a dream!

Not quite as cheap as the supermarkets, but
Midi Oasis dress was on another thread and it looks super useful. Oasis have got a lot of nice longer length dresses in at the moment.

Bejazzled · 22/05/2018 17:05

I love that dress!

I like Next I think they are really good nowadays especially for holiday clothes, summer holidays and leisure/nightwear

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/05/2018 20:53

I'm trying to find cotton t-shirts with a bit if lace/broderie detail. Have a couple of ancient ones from M&S but they don't seem to be doing them now and their quality has gone so downhill too. Ideally in 'winter' colours like reds/bright pinks/emerald.

Bejazzled · 22/05/2018 21:49

Something like this remus
red

I think there's some broderie anglaise in Asda but not those colours unfortunately

TheHoundsofLove · 22/05/2018 22:04

After someone recommended them on here last year, I bought one of these in every colour: Swing Vest They are so flattering, wash really well and can be dressed up or down. A total bargain for £3!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/05/2018 17:33

Thanks, Bejazzled. That sort of thing is on the right tracks.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 23/05/2018 17:41

Oh i like this! If anyone can recommend a good alternative to the hotter daisy shoes I'd be vert grateful. I love them but they are out of my price range. There are lots around in a similar style but a lot look really cheap so I'd be interested if anyone's found any good value and nice.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 23/05/2018 17:44

On sale but not in my size!

Doingreat · 23/05/2018 18:12

Thanks OP for starting this thread. It's helped me to appreciate the budget shops more. I love basic tshirts etc from primark. Also discovered shoezone shoes are really good for the price.
