Bank Holiday Wardrobe Clearout

KarenfromFinance · 06/05/2018 08:56

Currently my bedroom is in a horrific state. Clothes and shoes everywhere. My wardrobe is similarly horrendous.

I regularly find myself using precious holidays in an attempt to declutter / sort but never seem to get the job finished.

Determined that tomorrow (Bank Holiday Monday) will be the last holiday spent trying to sort the bedroom of doom.

Anyone out there to chum me for tomorrow's marathon? I am aiming to post a pick of the finished decluttered wardrobe for accountability.

I have made a list of things I love and plan to cull to 150 items including shoes, scarves, belts etc. I'm not including underwear, nightwear or sports clothes in that figure. I know that's still a lot compared to Project 333 but I think it's realistic for me. It will be the kick start to a year's shopping ban during which time the number will hopefully reduce further, then I will go for a strict one in , one out policy.

It's my 49 th birthday this week and I want to have a year of sorting my shit out, house, excercise etc so I feel I've made a lot of positive changes before reaching 50. I would love to live in a more minimalistic, eco way I the next decade.

I have a friend who doesn't buy much but buys well. So I go to Sainsburys or H&M and spend £60 on 2 x pairs of cheap summer trainers, a bag and a top where's she'd buy one top but it's lovely quality and fit. I never learn...

LanguidLobster · 07/05/2018 10:48

Floordrobe Grin Never heard that before, like it.

Some of my clothes are stored in a spare laundry bin, I went through it determined to be ruthless...then thought 'no, like that...like that...' so nothing was gotten rid of.

Your plan's quite ambitious OP, looks like you've made progress already!

KarenfromFinance · 07/05/2018 10:51

Charity that's the 'work' side of the wardrobe, but yes I do have a lot of navy. Any colour tends to be greens , greys and other blues. I like Rubybleu's idea of colour analysis but am planning a no spend on clothes/shoes/ accessories from my 49th to my 50th birthday. Maybe I will have it done when I am 50 and start to branch out a bit.

Oooh... Pretty shoes...

《gets sidetracked》
《wanders off》
《wonders why nothing ever gets finished》

😆

HoosierDaddy · 07/05/2018 10:57

In the interest of motivating you to keep on trucking - here is the after of mine from last week. I do have another one in spare room with coats and clothes I don't wear often, and a chest of drawers for t-shirts / knitwear

That's the mess I live with, I want to sort it but I know where it all is right now

Stoneage doesn't look as bad as my initial midden. The problem was I couldn't find my stuff! You can at least see where things are.

Hope your clearout goes well when you eventually decide the time is right.

rightknockered · 07/05/2018 11:59

I'm too ashamed to post a pic of my mess.
I've been trying, and failing, to sort out my wardrobe since the beginning of the year. As I clear out stuff, I can see that I've been repeat buying and wearing the same colours, so now I'm buying more as I try to branch out.
It's just a mess. My latest thing is that most of my shoes are black

stoneagemum · 07/05/2018 12:08

Those boxes are shoes/boots that haven't seen daylight yet!
The bag is full of tights that is easier to grab a pair from than put away properly
And instead of sorting it I'm about to go sit in the garden with minimal clothing as I can't be arsed to find something out of the mess

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 07/05/2018 12:29

Dh has taken the girls out today I may sort mine out. I have at least 60 t-shirts.... I wear uniform all week theres no way i need that many. I have a ridiculous amount of dresses that I never wear. And tights I have a duffle bag full under my bed and a box in my wardrobe. I live in mostly jeggings and t-shirts 😂

I need to make some space, I want new bedroom furniture but don't want to buy based on housing loads of crap I don't wear anymore.

Binkybix · 07/05/2018 15:04

Good progress there!

My problem is loads of clothes that no longer fit post babies, but youngest is two so not given up hope that I’ll get back in to them.

If I had what I actually wear it would be about five items!

SandAndSea · 07/05/2018 15:17

Well done, Karen, you're doing really well! Star

twomadefour · 07/05/2018 16:13

I did mine yesterday/this morning and feel much better for it!
I felt like I was wasting the weather, but looking at it now, it was worth it!

KarenfromFinance · 07/05/2018 16:20

Nocuts did you get it done or get seduced by the lovely weather?

OP posts:
KarenfromFinance · 07/05/2018 16:22

Thanks for the encouragement Binkybix and Sandandsea.

Having one hour in the garden with a cup of tea then will get back to it!

Gingernaut it’s the pink monster from M & S!!!

Exactly what I was thinking!!! Is it the pink dress from M&S that sent everyone on S&B to despair?????

KarenfromFinance · 07/05/2018 16:44

Rightknockered it's taken me a few attempts too. I had a clearout, but not tidy up at Christmas and Easter and took a lot of stuff to the charity shop. That's made it significantly less daunting now.

I'm determined to crack it now as part of a wider suite of changes precipitated by the looming big birthday. I'vd been messy all my life but just so bored of the way it wastes time . And also the way it wastes resources.

OP posts:
Gingernaut · 07/05/2018 17:38

Yup.

That's the one.

KarenfromFinance · 07/05/2018 18:59

I am so done!

This is not a fun way to spend a bank holiday.

Thank you for chumming me. Without the knowledge of the accountability pic I would have given up ages ago.

Bravo Karen!!!

It looks wonderful! I love the pop of green 🤗

KarenfromFinance · 07/05/2018 19:27

Thank you Hoosier

Apart from the green, it is all a bit subdued/ dull. That's accountants for you!

Off now for a large gin Gin

Wow! It looks great! Halo

rubybleu · 07/05/2018 19:57

Well done! I am also finished. Walked 4 large bags of clothes to Oxfam and have about 20 odd bits to go on eBay, but my wardrobe is looking spacious!
