What colour of bag with red dress?

Going to a wedding in June. Wearing a red dress (knee length, short sleeves). Shoes - will wear nude sling-back heels. But what colour of bag? I want it to be smart and summery but also slightly practical - a teeny clutch won't do the job.

What would work?

I wasn't sure if matching shoes and bag was still the best approach - thought maybe a bit old-fashioned? Or I may be entirely wrong! Thanks for suggestion - will look at it.

Matching was very old fashioned but I think its gone full circle and its back again.

Whirlytastic · 25/04/2018 17:53

Ah. Still hoping for something slightly more interesting that doesn't look wrong.

How about a pale/dark metallic? I think that can look quite chic. Colour would depend on your jewellery. So in my head: gold jewellery + pale gold clutch. Or silver jewellery + pewter clutch?

I would make sure the clutch is a simple shape and design. No dangly bits or embellishment (as it might look too much if you have anything other than the simplest jewellery) IMO.

A nice tan bag could work to edge up the outfit and complement the nude shoes.

Gold would look great with a red dress and nude shoes!

AdaColeman · 25/04/2018 19:13

Another vote for a metallic bag, maybe dark old gold.

Whirlytastic · 25/04/2018 19:38

Gold - now we're talking! Had wondered if that would work. Thank you!

Still hoping for a non-clutch though. I struggle with them! Partly they don't hold enough, and partly I don't have enough hands. I need my hands for holding a glass of champagne and gesticulating while I talk - how to manage a clutch without dropping champagne un-chic-ly?

I’m with you on the clutch, it’s very important to have your hands free for champagne chugging! Many clutches come with a chain shoulder strap though so just look for one like that. Sorry can’t search for you as not in the UK but gold and a chain strap shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Sorry for the rubbish link How about this?

BobLoblawLawBlog · 25/04/2018 21:26

Red with hot pink is in at the moment. Wasn't sure about it at first but it actually does work really well with accessories.

Fabellini · 25/04/2018 21:30

I’m a big fan of leopard with red, but then, I consider leopard a neutral!

halfwitpicker · 25/04/2018 21:30

Red with hot pink would look fab. With silver accessories.

halfwitpicker · 25/04/2018 21:31

Leopard print too would look fab.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/04/2018 21:33

^^ didn't copy exactly as I intended-but first one or scroll a little and it's a larger image. Zara have lots of fun occasion bags which would be ideal with a solid red dress

Whirlytastic · 25/04/2018 21:41

mumsie I really like these.

I think gold works best with red.

starkid · 25/04/2018 21:58

Noo I'd go for navy with red!
