Am on the hunt. I have found these which I love but am not paying over £100 for sandals that will last one season. I have wide feet which mean styles like varcas look weird on me. Cross over or t-bar styles work best. I like a slightly vintage feel but am open to suggestions. What gems have you got for me?

Got to saltwaters.

DianaT1969 · 07/04/2018 16:26

Please no bizarre MN product placement recommendations for saltwaters. Nothing about them makes sense. Flat, no support and frumpy uppers. There are millions of better sandals out there.

CountFosco · 07/04/2018 16:33

Diana you may not like them but lots of us do. I bought a pair last year, both my daughters then wanted a pair, and my sister and my Mum bought themselves a pair. None of them are part of the MN hivemind Grin. They are very comfortable (personally I like my shoes as flat as possible) and the colours are fab and they have a lovely retro feel. Considering the OP posted a picture of flat sandals it would make no sense to suggest heels or orthopaedics now would it?

Bimbaloo · 07/04/2018 16:44

Oh I do like those Dune ones.

magickingdom82 · 07/04/2018 17:04

Watching with interest....

BUT aren't saltwaters hideously frumpy

lucy101101 · 07/04/2018 17:23

Teva universal crafted leather like these:

Toast do a version too:

Other styles:

I have given up all my Birkenstocks for Teva now as the comfort is in a different class!

lucy101101 · 07/04/2018 17:24

I forgot to say I can't wear Saltwater as just too flat and uncomfortable for me!

Babyplaymat · 07/04/2018 17:33

I often buy leather sandals on Etsy, you can get some lovely styles. I'll have a quick look.

Babyplaymat · 07/04/2018 17:34

I can't stand to wear sandals that have a toe post or flip flops with the bit that goes between your toes. Even thinking about it makes my toes clench. Just icks me out a bit. No idea why.

emma6776 · 07/04/2018 18:01

With DianaT - don’t buy Saltwaters - so horribly frumpy (I’m quite frumpy and even I wouldn’t wear them)

Like the Dune ones though.

PrimalLass · 07/04/2018 18:06

Why oh why would you call something frumpy on a thread where people say they like it? It is so rude.

PrimalLass · 07/04/2018 18:06

I have two pairs btw. I'm not grumpy.

PrimalLass · 07/04/2018 18:07

No I am grumpy. I am not frumpy though.

Oldraver · 07/04/2018 18:10

How retro do you want to go ? yes these are like old fashioned school shoes but I like the style and they are so comfy

Red or Dead

For those saying Saltwaters are comfy....how does that work with flat shoes with no shape or support ?

PrimalLass · 07/04/2018 18:13

I don't know how it works but they are very comfy.

DianaT1969 · 07/04/2018 18:20

Frumpy was the wrong word. Apologies to anyone offended. I've just arrived home from shopping on High Street Kensington and saw beautiful sandals.
OP asked for recommendations for flat sandals and like last year, with every sandal thread, a bunch of posters piled in with Saltwater. Let people judge for themselves. Here are 3 images from the Saltwater website.
Good for you if you love them. I prefer a little support and cushioning with a more elegant or minimalist upper. Agree with previos poster that Etsy can be good. Here goes with the Saltwater images....

For the record, I don’t think Saltwaters are frumpy or mumsnet spam. I do associate them with a look I couldn’t necessarily keep up with all my outfits, sort of LA boho Mum (in my head gorgeous, tall, very slim with hair that looks great even in a ‘messy bun’). I can’t really pull that off but am still considering them for pure practicality but am veering more toward the Dune ones as they are almost the made up sandal in my head. Don’t ask me what the difference is between them and Saltwaters as they do look similar. I guess they feel more neutral and something I could easily wear to work or with jeans, which is what I’m looking for. Thank you everyone for your help though!

Oh and the Birkie-Alikes are on my back burner as my wide feet mean most birkies look weird (the original ones and the toe post ones just make my feet look like shrek feet) and so when I want more casual sandals I will definitely consider them.

lucy I tried those Tevas last year they looked HIDEOUS on my feet. I could not have left the house in them.

Thanks .. I've just ordered the Dune sandals . They look lovely !

Thegirlisnotright · 07/04/2018 19:15

Came on to say the dune ones too- they really are a good wide fit if you need that, and a bargain price now

Paintbox · 07/04/2018 19:19

I BOught some salt waters but the sole was so thin that I could feel every tiny pebble I stepped on and they made my feet hurt like hell, just like with nothing but a thin piece of cardboard strapped to my foot! No cushioning at all

Joinourclub · 07/04/2018 19:22

I got some nice ones from Steve madden last year, similar to this www.stevemadden.eu/uk/donddi-sandal-cognac

ChimperRimper · 07/04/2018 19:24

I just don’t understand why saltwater don’t make the Sun San sandals (with the deeper some) for adults. My girls all have them as they look fab but the women’s ones are all those cardboard thin ones.
I just got these and they have some support and are really comfy (well, around the house which is the only outing they’ve had so far!): m.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350111321?qty=1&PreC=brown&PreS=39%20(5,5%20to%206)&cartLineId=569306668&vendorId=0
