Am on the hunt. I have found these which I love but am not paying over £100 for sandals that will last one season. I have wide feet which mean styles like varcas look weird on me. Cross over or t-bar styles work best. I like a slightly vintage feel but am open to suggestions. What gems have you got for me?

I love my saltwaters but had terrible plantar fascilitis last year so couldnt wear them as they are suoer flat with no arch support as pp have said. The year before I found them super comfy and wore them loads with not a messy bun in sight Wink

Those schuh girlies look fab. I've been eyeing up these from Sea salt who h are bargainous:

Not in tan unfortunately but I love that yellow.

Youradviceneeded · 07/04/2018 20:30

The moshulu wasabi sandals recommended above are great for wide feet. They sell them every year and they have made some lovely bright colours this season. I love them. The sole is much more supportive and cushioned than eg saltwaters whch are very very flat and thin so not suitable for me.

Ellapaella · 07/04/2018 20:37

Unfortunately people do that all the time on here.. poor scorn all over things that other posters say they like and call them 'hideous' and 'frumpy' etc etc. Really no need for it. If you don't like something fine, in this post the OP is asking for opinions on sandals that other people do like, not for a critique on saltwater sandals.
Personally I really like those Dune sandals. I am also a Birkenstock fan and find I wear mine all summer long, they last for years and are really comfy.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 07/04/2018 20:39

Tan Saltwaters. Can't beat them.

BlueUggs · 07/04/2018 20:41

teva kayenta - I've got these but in a different colour. They're a bit less clumpy than other styles and SO comfy. I'm going to buy the blue ones this summer!

PrimalLass · 07/04/2018 20:45

The Dune sandals are lovely. How well do they last?

BTW, some of the SW styles are not for me, but I like the original styles in bright colours. They cheer me up no end.

Usually I need arch support etc, but just find these comfortable.

However, OP I like your original ones best as they have a back, so I wouldn't have to be paranoid about my heels.

BlueUggs · 07/04/2018 20:47

more teva in the sale!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/04/2018 20:52

I bought a couple of pairs of Clarks Brinkley about 3 years ago - still look good, comfy. Might need to buy a black pair this year.
They have a toe-post and can adjust the strap, I have very narrow feet and cannot even look at Birkies without wincing (I have a pair of their rubbery flipflops to get me from hotel-pool that's it)

CallarMorvern · 07/04/2018 21:04

These are wide fitting, I'm a wide 8 and had to buy a 7(!). Also leather, the description says gold hardware, but it's actually silver. I'm not in love with them, but it's not often I can pluck a pair of sandals off a supermarket shelf and find that they fit.

I’ve got plantar whatsit too and I can’t wear my lovely flat sandals anymore, they kill my foot. Love the look of the Moshulu ones but they don’t go big enough.

Really need something with a high instep.

auberginesrus · 08/04/2018 00:04

MsAdorabelle I'm afraid its Birkenstocks for you - I practically lived in them last summer as they were the only thing that was comfortable. I've spent the winter in boots with orthopedic insoles from the podiatrist and it is (touch wood) better now.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/04/2018 00:16

I tried them before. Perhaps I tried the wrong style. I had the ones with just the one strap over the foot? They ripped my feet to shreds. Do they need to be very broken in? Thanks anyway.

Just had a look online for orthotic sandals. Jesus there’s some hideous footwear out there. The ones that are lovely are expensive.

Traipsed round Florida theme parks in the black version last summer, really comfy, couldn’t see them in Clark’s online at the moment but hopefully they’ll come in soon.

lucybee77 · 08/04/2018 08:11

Those Picolinos are lovely. I just bought myself a pair from La Redoute who have 30% off for new customers setting up a credit account just now, so they were just around £50. Can't do a link but they have loads of similar styles on the website.

Mouthfulofquiz · 08/04/2018 08:24

I think a brand called Blowfish do sandals similar to the ones op likes, I’m sure I saw some on Amazon the other day for about £40.

Mouthfulofquiz · 08/04/2018 08:26

Scratch that - I just read the details and the sandals are faux leather.

CountFosco · 08/04/2018 09:09

Those Dune sandals are nice OP, I do like Dune shoes and the ones I have always get lots of compliments.

Completely flat sandals are very comfortable if your feet are in good shape and in fact the less support your feet have from shoes the stronger they'll be. Walking barefoot is the best thing but obviously isn't always practical. So shoes with 'support' are the ones that look frumpiest to me because they imply foot issues associated with age.

Saltwaters are a very retro look, I don't think they look the best on their actual website and some of the colour combinations are a bit off but as a PP said some of the original brights are fantastic and I don't think any of the women here look frumpy in theirs.

auberginesrus · 09/04/2018 21:52

Unfortunately I don't look like any of those pics in mine Count but I love them anyway. Looking forward to hopefully wearing again this summer.

MsAdorable re Birkenstocks I have both Gizeh (toe post) and Arizona (two chunky straps). Gizeh are by far the comfiest but all Birkenstocks take a while to break in.

RosieLig · 09/04/2018 21:58

I have these but I’m not sure how much walking they’ll stand. I find them more flattering than saltwater as they are more leg lengthening with the v effect at the front. I fancy a pair of clogs too though...

Rosie those are a total bargain! I will defo try on when next in Gap but need to be careful because lots of criss-cross can make my feet look like salami in a net bag...

What lovely images I’m giving you all. I do have thin ankles though, which is either a redeeming quality or alternatively just serves to emphasise my penguin flipper feet. I used to hate it when I’d read in magazines that you should get pretty shoes because you never get too fat for them - what about if EVERY DAY is a fat-foot day huh!

CallarMorvern · 10/04/2018 06:07

Really love those Gap sandals, but unfortunately Gap is another company who claim an 8 is a size 41, so they are not going to fit me.

namastayinbed · 10/04/2018 08:35

Just bought the Dune ones - they look quite like my saltwaters!

Swimminguphill · 10/04/2018 08:40

Love your name namastayinbed have you seen this ?

Watching with interest. Going to have a lot of walking this summer.
