Mother of groom dress; keep or return?

mumblechum0 · 06/04/2018 23:55

Bearing in mind:
Wedding is in a Tipi in a field, so I need to wear wedges which I hate, ergo going for a maxi

I know my arms are massive but I’m working on toning them and losing weight

Wedding will be relatively low key, son is only 23 so loads of young people and not many ppl in hats etc.

So my question really is, is it too evening wear-y? Trying too hard?

Honest answers please, I am happy to return it, wedding isn’t till August
TIA

I absolutely love it and I don’t think your arms are massive! But aren’t you going to be holding it up all day if it rains? You do look amazing though.

ColinsVeryJolly · 06/04/2018 23:57

It is a bit evening-y for a low key wedding, but you look fab in it and your arms aren't massive at all!

PS is that your house? It's beautiful!

Bodear · 06/04/2018 23:59

A lot of wedding tipis come with floors; are
You sure this one doesn’t?

MrsBungle · 06/04/2018 23:59

I think you look fabulous. It's perhaps not particularly "field-y" but you look great.

Jon66 · 07/04/2018 00:00

I think its lovely but not for a daytime wedding. Lovely for the evening party though.

mumblechum0 · 07/04/2018 00:00

Thanks both😊
I’m obsessed with my arms😂.will probably get some sort of wrap And will be getting the dress taken up.
Yes, that’s my bedroom.

I suppose the other thing is that green is not seen to be lucky.

mumblechum0 · 07/04/2018 00:02

Yes, there’s a floor in the Tipi but am guessing there’ll be a lot of standing around in the field/sitting on hay bales. No where to change into evening gear (except portals) , so whatever I wear will have to go from 1pm to 1am

It's a lovely dress and really suits you.

Your arms look fine.

You will look lovely and elegant and your son will be very proud of his gorgeous DM.

Wear what you like it's a time to dress up and look fabulous.

Tantpoke · 07/04/2018 00:02

Ps don't forget to pack some wellies just in case Grin

Pixel99 · 07/04/2018 00:06

I agree you look great in it and your arms are fine. I would also agree it looks a little dressy for a field wedding. It'll probably rain the whole of August. I am sure you could get some great flat shoes between now and then. Either keep it for another occasion or get something shorter. You look like you have a great figure so you can afford to show it off with a shorter dress ( that fits the occasion, location and your role as mother of the groom.) Have a fab day all round.

mumblechum0 · 07/04/2018 00:07

Oooh I’m wavering towards keeping it, thanks all, much appreciated.

Didn’t know about not wearing green.cant wear white, black, grey (mother of bride in grey), purple (bridesmaids) and don’t suit beigey colours so it’s green or cobalt I think

Lovely dress and you look AMAAZZING OP. And your arms look good too. Have fun

mumblechum0 · 07/04/2018 00:08

Xpost with pixie.
I may get a midi and decide on the day.....

I think it’s lovely, really suits you. A more casual alternative would be palazzo trousers, you could still wear wedges under those.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/04/2018 00:14

I wouldn't go that long for hay bale type wedding.

Where is the actual ceremony? Inside or out? Tipi will have floor but unlikely the route to the portaloo will...

flippityfloppity · 07/04/2018 00:15

Even if you don't wear this for the wedding do not send it back! You look amazing.

nordicflamingo · 07/04/2018 00:25

Beautiful! It really suits you. Never heard green is unlucky. Might get a bit wet - I had a bridesmaid dress in a field which got binned after as the mud and water marks were up to my thighs 😂

mumblechum0 · 07/04/2018 00:45

What about this as my backup

I love your dress, it is a lovely colour and suits you.

If I were you I would definitely keep it.

I woudn't wear it for a Tipi wedding though.

Something shorter.

RunningjustasfastasIcan99 · 07/04/2018 01:03

Your arms are fine. (Hate mine they are MUCH bigger). Great dress but really like your wallpaper! 😂

Mumontherocks1 · 07/04/2018 01:21

The green dress is really nice on you. Get a grip your arms are lovely so put that out of your head. I went to a wedding in a tipei and wore a long dresses. It rained all day and my dress got soaked and as the night wore on I ended up freezing.

Your back up dress is gorgeous. Wear it with wedges and ditch the heels as the night goes if it is cold/wet. Wear a pair funky wellies and warm socks. That way you look fab & cool.

Your house is so nice. Get out there and enjoy yourself.

Repeat after me - my arms are really nice!!!!!

Mulberrysilk · 07/04/2018 01:23

Absolutely nothing wrong with your arms. The dress is beautiful on you but I don't think its right for the occasion. It's more black tie than tipi and hay bales.

RavenclawRealist · 07/04/2018 01:37

I love your first dress and it really suits you agree with everyone else you have no issues with your arms!!
I do think for a tepi/festival type wedding you will be on the dressier side but your mother of the groom I don't think it will be odd! I also think the back up dress is lovely though not much help I know! Are you close to the bride? Can you ask her opinion? Or find out what others are wearing and decided how to pitch it? Not much help but positive side I don't think there's a bad option!

Plumsofwrath · 07/04/2018 01:43

You look great in that dress, but I too don’t think it’s appropriate for a hay-bale type thing. I’d be going boho chic: no flowers, but floaty chiffon with a wrap. Could be worn with heels or wedges or wellies. Make up light, nothing heavy.

Basically, Kate Moss in any of the photos where she look totally trollied in the Cotswolds 😀
