What’s the trendy shoe to wear with jeans now (if previously was superga / converse?)

Longhairmightcare · 29/03/2018 09:42

Or is it still superga?

I always seem to be a year behind.
Last year I bought converse and then superga was the thing. This year I’ve got a pair of white superga in my basket but I’m sure once I buy them they be sooo last year Grin
ThanksSmile

I like to wear gazelles, Stan smiths Wink, old skool vans, and white Nike Air Force 1 low

I’m skinny with big feet (6.5) so converse make them look even bigger, and I find superstars look too bulky on me
Also, don’t think I’m trendy enough to pull off this Dad trainer trend ha

polyhymnia · 30/03/2018 15:35

As an Ash wearer myself, brilliant summary thesaurus!

Growingboys · 30/03/2018 16:13

Love the summary too thesaurus

I have Vejas and I love them

Longhairmightcare · 30/03/2018 19:01

I'm 64 and wear Vans, Converse, Superga and Stan Smiths. That's probably put you off .....

Not at all Smile

What's width like on Stan Smiths? Pleaseandthankyou.

Chocolate1984 · 30/03/2018 19:16

I wear NB or Nike internationalist. I'm not trendy though.

Hispterwannabe · 30/03/2018 19:17

I love supergras and I definitely don’t think they are out of fashion. Oldschool Vans are a very poplular choice (I’m really not fussed as they make my feet look like boats) another popular and ‘in choice’ would be Adidas Gazelles which are really comfortable. I’ve also seen Veja v-10s being worn lot’s in an area I used to live in (Hackney) but I think they look a little like orthopaedic shoes.

Wear what you think looks good.

hettie · 30/03/2018 19:28

Veja for me or crime London (cheaper alternative to golden goose, and arguably more 'cool' because they're niche)

PinkAvocado · 30/03/2018 19:36

I’m really tempted by these...

This has been a useful thread for me because I’ve been struggling with what to buy. Decided I needed some sneaker/plimsoll/trainer type affair to bridge the gap between winter boots and summer sandals, but the problem is I just don’t really like trainer type footwear, so I don’t know what’s ‘in’.

I tried on some in Mint Velvet today; they were pewter and had stars on and seemed nice. But I didn’t like them on me, or with my clothes.

I’ve googled all the brands on this thread and looked at the links, and the only things I like are the brown moccasins.

Clearly trainers/sneakers/plimsolls are just not for me. Which is shame because I’m sure they’d be really comfy. 😐

SansaClegane · 30/03/2018 21:47

Good thread. I'm another one who's always a bit behind in terms of fashion (I blame it on living in the Home Counties where 'ditsy' Joules prints, gilets and long boots are considered the height of fashion).

Anyway I really liked the look of the Golden Goose trainers but was a bit Shock at the price. Luckily I found some fantastic knock-offs on Wish and ordered a pair for £19 Grin

BifsWif · 30/03/2018 21:51

I live in my superstars. I have a pair of gazelles and converse too, but my Superstars are my favourite.

Stroller15 · 30/03/2018 22:10

Very helpful thread! I'm so not on trend right now I needed to google a lot of these mentioned above. But Golden Goose? I need 2 geese with golden eggs to afford those!

Off to get some superga trainers so I can look like I know what's happening! (Do people still say that?) Thanks again OP!

thisonehasalittlecar · 30/03/2018 22:12

I love the kids' velcro superstars, why oh why don't they do them for grownups!? these

It's not possible that there are any cool velcro trainers for adults out there, is it?

Ellapaella · 30/03/2018 22:29

Hettie those Crime London trainers are gorgeous

dollyknocker · 31/03/2018 06:37

Converse and Superga are too narrow and flat for me, I find them really uncomfortable. I'm currently living in black Nike running shoes, white and gold Nike Cortez and pale pink suede Nike Blazer hi-tops. There's a lot of Stan Smiths round my way and I do think they look good with pretty much everything, so they're on my list along with some pink or grey Nike Air Max.

AfterSchoolWorry · 31/03/2018 06:59

I'm an 'elderly mum' and I wouldn't be caught dead in New Balance or Sketchers. I don't know what Ash are.

I wear Nike vapourmax, white leather puma basket hearts, Adidas or in the past white leather converse.

Bluetoo1 · 31/03/2018 07:49

This must be why I feel tall when queuing these days, I’m 5’8”, everyone must be in flatties.

dudsville · 31/03/2018 08:11

This thread made me realise no one is talking about the kind I like so I googled "what sort of person wears xxx" white make hipsters apparently. I'm none of those so I guys I look like a wannabe white make hipster. I'm so niche!

MadMaryBoddington · 31/03/2018 13:39

I quite like these. But the print might make them a bit limiting. www.tedbaker.com/uk/Womens/Accessories/Shoes/AHFIRA-Printed-leather-tennis-trainers-White/p/144391-WHITE

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 31/03/2018 13:42

There's a young woman in the hairdressers just now wearing some really nice trainers. Ima gonna ask her what they are! Grin

FlindersKeepers · 31/03/2018 14:08

thisonehasalittlecar Veja 3 Lock are velcro!

jelly10 · 31/03/2018 16:21

@DangerEgg thank you for the link to the Gola trainers, I've found some I love on the website, these ones:

www.gola.co.uk/womens-harrier-zebra-trainer-p2389

How do you find the sizing? I'm a 4.5 so not sure whether to go for the 4 or the 5...

IllHaveALargeGlassOfRed · 31/03/2018 16:44

I love a Gola! My first trendy shoe back in the 80s - I had black and gold ones.

I bought a purple floral pair from Cath Kidston which I love!

Enidblyton1 · 31/03/2018 16:58

I love my Converse - comfiest trainers ever for someone with narrow feet like me. I've been wearing various pairs for the last 10-15 years. They may not be the height of fashion, but I know loads of (v fashion conscious) women in their 40s who wear them.
