What’s the trendy shoe to wear with jeans now (if previously was superga / converse?)

Or is it still superga?

I always seem to be a year behind.
Last year I bought converse and then superga was the thing. This year I’ve got a pair of white superga in my basket but I’m sure once I buy them they be sooo last year Grin
ThanksSmile

I believe ugly trainers to be the latest thing.
Which appears to mean trainers that look more like your gym trainers.

busyboysmum · 29/03/2018 13:24

I paid about £30 for my NB last year. Office have got some in their sale. Worth a look maybe:

Scarydinosaurs · 29/03/2018 13:29

My younger sister who is impossibly cool is wearing some godawful trainers that look like the kind of thing I worse in year eight.

Has anyone tried leather converse? Are they more comfortable?

misscockerspaniel · 29/03/2018 13:30

Longhairmightcare I've been wondering the same thing and whether or not to get another pair of Adidas Gazelles.

I like Converse but they make my feet (size 6) look massive.

KaliforniaDreamz · 29/03/2018 13:31

Cannot go wrong with classic Stan Smiths IMO

also i like that they're leather. better for feet.

buffalosdonthavewings · 29/03/2018 13:50

to be honest op if everyone else was wearing converse and you were the only one wearing supergas then you probably looked the coolest whilst they would've all looked like sheep.

plimsolls · 29/03/2018 13:56

Some really snide and scornful replies in here! How pathetic.

I don’t have a definitive answer OP but I understand your dilemma. I think part of the reason ‘we’ can feel so behind is that it takes a little while of noticing what people on the street are wearing before something starts to appeal, and then add on to that the months before you need to buy new shoes and you only get a little window of feeling that you look fresh and modern before you notice that the fashion forward “on the street” are wearing something different.

As a few PP have said, I have a feeling big 90s style exercise-type trainers are the next trend but they still all look so wrong to me because I’ve not seen them around enough so my head hasn’t made sense of the trend yet, if you see what I mean.

I’d say Vans style skate shoes are the current new superga where I live (central London) particularly the black ones with the white stripe. I’m thinking about getting some New Balance next time I need trainers.

CallarMorvern · 29/03/2018 14:01

Being in style and beauty board I thought this was the sort of thing it was ok to ask.

Ahh but, you don't need to be trendy to be stylish and beautifulWink.
I think a lot of people pick up threads from Active convos and don't register what board they are actually from.

Also think trainer trendiness is very region specific. DD and her mates are all about Adidas ( but only certain styles), my cousins down south are all about Vans.
The 'grown up' trainer here seems to be Adidas Gazelles, with a smattering of Converse and Nike, occasional Puma ( I'm coverting some grey suede Pumas). I wear Converse and NB.

CallarMorvern · 29/03/2018 14:04

Has anyone tried leather converse? Are they more comfortable?
I have a black pair and I don't like them, they are a bit stiff. DD had Nubuck ones when she was a lot younger, they were beautifully soft.

Didiusfalco · 29/03/2018 14:13

Ive no idea whether they’re stylish (probably not!) but your feet will thank you for getting sketchers.

mrsrhodgilbert · 29/03/2018 14:15

I've only had a pair of leather converse, never a canvas pair. The leather was fine but my feet were in agony after taking them for a weekend away. I think the soles were the problem, I actually sat on a bench and refused to move other than back to the car.

thesaurusgirl · 29/03/2018 14:15

Find your tribe.

WAGs are all in Golden Goose.

Urban Yummy Mummies are wearing Veja.

The Elderly Mummies (the ones who are ten years older than the other mothers at the school gates) are wearing Ash and New Balance because their feet hurt.

The Normcore are wearing all-black or all-white trainers, because they we get all their fashion advice online.

The Nostalgics are wearing Adidas and Nike because the 90s were the best decade of their life, or because it was the decade in which they were born.

The Youth are wearing Dad trainers, which is what the WAGs will be adopting next year, when Asics decide to triple the price.

afs01 · 29/03/2018 14:28

All the "cool" girls in my London office are wearing Golden Goose sneakers these days. I looked them up and can't justify paying so much for a pair of sneakers!

plimsolls · 29/03/2018 14:31

thesaurusgirl that’s brilliant. And spot on! My feet do hurt but I get all my fashion advice on line which is probably why I have literally just spent the last 15 minutes looking for white NB trainers.

You also reminded me of the name for the 90s trainer trend (Dad trainers) which then reminded me about this article which may or may not be helpful to you OP

rightknockered · 29/03/2018 14:43

OP, where have you found Superga for £25?

buffalosdonthavewings · 29/03/2018 14:43

ooh Vejas look nice. Never heard of them before which shows just how 'trendy' i am.Blush

Longhairmightcare · 29/03/2018 14:45

thesaurusgirl thank you!! That’s exactly the summary I was after Grin

I think o might be an elderly mummy wannabe urban yummy mummy, with half an eye on nostalgics.

plimsols you’ve described the ‘cycle’ perfectly! At the moment as you say the dad trainers trend is a bit yikes to me (thanks for the link) but I can see myself buying some next year once I’ve acclimatised...thus perpetually being a year behind.

If your feet hurt in shoes but you love them, get some really comfortable insoles. That's all I do. I have some shaped ones in my converse they're amazing, arch support and all.

Longhairmightcare · 29/03/2018 16:36

I like those glassofred!

My new superstars have just arrived. Not looked at supergra .

HangtheblessedDJ · 29/03/2018 17:38

Black Vans with white stripy thing seem to be this year's Stan, Converse or Superga.

ChishandFips33 · 29/03/2018 17:44

Coloured Superstars and gazelles here but I wear what I like/suits me!

Just spied some rose gold superga in tkmaxx for £25 - didn't realise there were so heavy! Think they had a slightly chunky sole...tempted
