What’s the trendy shoe to wear with jeans now (if previously was superga / converse?)

Or is it still superga?

I always seem to be a year behind.
Last year I bought converse and then superga was the thing. This year I’ve got a pair of white superga in my basket but I’m sure once I buy them they be sooo last year Grin
ThanksSmile

OP I love that response - thank you for biting back at comments like that!! Love it.

I live in Converse and love them but want some Superga I think. Vans seem popular as well.

UtterlyDesperate · 29/03/2018 17:59

I lived in Converse in the 90s- my personal mantra is that when a fashion trend comes round again, give it a swerve. If you were old enough for it last time, you'll be too old this time Wink (see also: lace tattoo chokers) Actually, Converse are really uncomfortable until they are well worn in- a bit like DM s

CaptainCardamom · 29/03/2018 18:02

I think superga look nicer than converse. I have big feet and converse are so long and narrow they look like canoes.

So I was going to get some nice pink superga, then noticed DD's teacher was wearing superga and thought twice. SO shallow.

Then I bought some skechers. So what do I know.

I think we all are influenced by trends, which is why we aren't wearing wimples, or even non-matching neon socks. Just to different degrees. I kind of vaguely care what's "in" , then end up doing something else, but i do like to know.

TacoFlavouredKisses · 29/03/2018 18:04

Hoping I don't derail but... all you peeps with white Vans, have you had any issue with them going yellow? Mine have gone strangely yellow and I haven't even worn them much Sad Have tried washing them to no avail.

To answer the OP's question though... I've just bought a pair of black Vans to replace my yellowy white ones!

froufroufoxes · 29/03/2018 18:08

I've noticed vans seem to be quite popular at the moment.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 29/03/2018 18:09

Is it just me, or does the word "trendy" sound middle aged? Do young people really talk about being trendy?

TacoFlavouredKisses · 29/03/2018 18:09

Also it's worth checking La Redoute for your trainers at the moment as they have 40% off everything.

I’m 100% sure they don’t Grin

ReinettePompadour · 29/03/2018 18:15

I tend to wear converse and Element. The Elements are more comfy than Converse but Converse is cheaper.

I have no idea if they look trendy/en vogue or not but I like them so as far as I'm concerned theyre fine.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 29/03/2018 18:16

Why don't you wait, see what the other local mums are wearing, and get a pair?!

LittleWingSoul · 29/03/2018 18:19

Adidas gazelles for me. And I recently became the proud owner of a pair of mustard yellow Vans hi tops... in a size 3, which don't fit me. I can't bear to part with them though as they are a discontinued colourway so will be forcing all 3 DC to wear them, like a family Heirloom, just so I can justify being able to look at them every day.

I had high top converse as a teenager in the 90s, they were graffiti'd with pictures of magic mushrooms and some right on wordage. I might bring that look back!

PNgirl · 29/03/2018 18:33

I had some raspberry Superga but I've just donated them after 18 months because they killed my feet. I own 2 pairs of New Balance (once is bronze, very cool), a couple of pairs of Converse, some Adidas Superstars, some Vans Originals (no white stripe, all black), some Nike Tanjuns in black, and some Nike Air, all of which don't hurt, so I'm not sure I'd recommend.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 29/03/2018 18:38

Vans.

JessicaJonesJacket · 29/03/2018 18:45

I didn't know about Golden Goose I am the mum wearing the comfy ones for her feet but thanks to the link on this thread, I now think I love them.

Freshprincess · 29/03/2018 20:48

I've been wearing converse for the last few years, but I've decided that they aren't really that comfy anymore on my old lady feet. Was going to try some Stan Smiths the year, but see I'm behind the curve ther.

I've got loads of running trainers so could easily get into the dad trainer look.

I love the Golden Goose ones, but way to ££££

crumpet · 29/03/2018 20:54

I started wearing Superga in the early 90s and have never deviated since. Can’t say how many pairs I’ve had since then. A white pair are currently in the custody of Amazon, winging their way to me as I write. I have silver, tatty white, navy and possibly still have my pink ones. Love them.

BikeRunSki · 29/03/2018 21:02

I have been wearing Converse for 35 years.

I got some Superga last year, but find them quite uncomfortable.

Shockers · 29/03/2018 21:05

DD and I have superga because that’s the brand the shoe shop on our little high Street sell. Good to know we’re accidentally on trend Grin.

Baubletrouble43 · 29/03/2018 21:05

What are superga?

Baubletrouble43 · 29/03/2018 21:07

Just googled. I'm sticking with my converse.

andyandapril · 29/03/2018 21:08

How about vionic? A bit expensive but on oprah’s Christmas list.

Baubletrouble43 · 29/03/2018 21:09

Taco I had a pair of Adidas shell toe that went yellow in the early noughties. No idea why.

KakunaRattata · 29/03/2018 21:16

I'm usually converse but have been considering superga for this year. I bought some Nike trainers last year thinking I'll be grown up and comfy but I just don't like that look so they got relegated to the gym fairly quickly.

Plumsofwrath · 29/03/2018 21:16

Well, when I clicked on the Golden Goose link my first thought was “how much???!!!”, followed by “but they already look tatty!! Oh wait, that’s probably the point...”.

I think they need to invent a new category for me, I’m beyond Elderly Mummy Confused

TeaAddict235 · 29/03/2018 22:04

I tutor an 17 yo and he is very fly. He says that NB are 'dad trainers', like there are 'mom jeans'. He talks about the technology and advances and says that NB has none of it. He doesn't know that I love my Clarks onesGrin.

Get any pair that suit you and your bank balance op.
