Is 37 to old for a denim jacket?

I think I want one looked at the last spring but chickened out now find myself looking at them again. Is 37 going on 38 to old for a denim jacket? And if not what does one wear with them as I am way to old for the double denim look, I mainly wear jeans so would have to invest in some new clothes for my bottom half.

I hope not - I'm 38 and I've just bought one! I'm planning on wearing it with casual dresses in the summer.

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 26/03/2018 14:29

I used to think like this OP. I used to worry that I was dressing too young for my age. I was 25 when my ex told me I was trying to dress like a teenager for wearing cropped jeans (note ex). I'm 42 now and wear whatever the hell I want, including denim jackets (which I rock by the way). No such thing as too old; not confident enough maybe...

OhKnow70 · 26/03/2018 14:29

What one did you get? Yes I like the look of them with dresses but haven't worn a dress in years. I'm quite short 5ft 3 so some dresses are a bit long. I am a size 10 are peite dress just shorter and not narrower everywhere does anybody know?

Yes I think it might be a confidence thing to be honest, jeans and a jumper is safe!

I still wear mine and I'm a lot older than you!

Almostthere15 · 26/03/2018 14:35

Absolutely not. They're a classic. I don't think they go all that well with trousers on me though. I tend to wear mine with midi/maxi dresses and then turn up the cuffs a bit.

MagicFajita · 26/03/2018 14:35

I also hope not. Am 37 this year and wear one in the summer/spring with dresses and skirts.

I've also done double denim with colourful trainers.

Tryingtogetitright · 26/03/2018 14:36

I got a Levis one on Amazon for a bargain £27 after a recommendation on here!

Not sure about petite clothing... I'm 5ft 7 and a size 16...! I have the opposite problem to you - lots of dresses are just a fraction too short!

pinkhorse · 26/03/2018 14:37

Nobody is too old for a denim jacket! Definitely get one

ToriRay · 26/03/2018 14:39

Definitely not! Check out NEXT. They have a petit range and a darker blue jacket that I really like!

Cheerywave · 26/03/2018 14:40

I'm petite. I wear my denim jacket or a khaki "shacket" all through spring and summer! No such thing as too old, wear what you want!
Petite dresses tend to be shorter length, but normal widthways! Grin

OhKnow70 · 26/03/2018 14:43

I need to pop to next to collect a parcel of clothed for the dc so will be brave and try one on. Good to hear petite is just shorter and not narrower.

I am about 5 ft 2 and when I was younger and smaller (size 6) I used to get so upset because dresses would just absolutely drown me. I tried petite and never looked back! I'm an 8/10 now and still wear petite for dresses skirts trousers jeans etc. So in my experience petite is just shorter, not narrower.

Anyway - point is, get yourself some petite dresses AND a denim jacket! Smile

CointreauVersial · 26/03/2018 16:46

I'm 51 and wear mine.

Not with blue jeans, though - not a fan of double denim. But it goes with pretty much everything else.

Echobelly · 26/03/2018 16:52

I don't think denim jackets are at all an age thing, in fact nothing should really be an age thing anyway!

MarklahMarklah · 26/03/2018 16:52

I bet baddiewinkle wears one, and she's nearly 90, so I'm going to say you're not too old.

Sweetheart · 26/03/2018 16:58

I'm 37 and wear a denim jacket but have been looking for another spring jacket to wear with jeans as I agree about the double denim........

I just saw that New Look have denim jackets in pink and lemon which I thought might be good for summer with jeans.

AnaViaSalamanca · 26/03/2018 16:58

yes, it is too old. You should be wearing layers of shawls, preferably moth eaten.

Funclesmuck · 26/03/2018 16:58

The CEO of my work cane in today, she’s 68, size 8 at the most. Usually wears a two piece channel number. Her grandkids made her wear a 90’s dress and a demin jacket, and she looked amazing!! So yes, go for it

Jon66 · 26/03/2018 17:00

I'm way older than you and I wear one, mostly with dresses in the summer!

Lilonetwo · 26/03/2018 17:04

Your not too old at all Smile
A slightly cropped denim jacket would be good if you are on the petite side.

They look great with Black jeans on a cold day or summer dresses.

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 26/03/2018 17:07

I can't believe people my age are already thinking they're too old to wear stuff. I've never even considered I might be too old to wear anything.

SadieContrary · 26/03/2018 17:18

I'm 36 and still wearing mine and loving it!

thedevilinablackdress · 26/03/2018 19:41

I don't know how to say this without sounding harsh but deargodallmighty!!! Too old? For a denim jacket????

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 26/03/2018 20:02

37 isn’t old! Wear what you like, age shouldn’t be a barrier. Cultivate a FTS badass attitude and have fun!
