Is 37 to old for a denim jacket?

I think I want one looked at the last spring but chickened out now find myself looking at them again. Is 37 going on 38 to old for a denim jacket? And if not what does one wear with them as I am way to old for the double denim look, I mainly wear jeans so would have to invest in some new clothes for my bottom half.

No!!

Jessi79 · 26/03/2018 20:30

I'm almost 44 and I have just bought one (to add to my collection) - you are NOT too old! :-)

squoosh · 26/03/2018 20:32

That's such a weird question. It's like asking 'am I too old to wear a white t-shirt?'

TimesNewRoman · 26/03/2018 20:37

Definitely not too old!! I'm looking for one but can't find one that's slightly fitted and not boxy.

CountFosco · 26/03/2018 21:03

You can wear whatever you want at whatever age you want. HTH

BIWI · 26/03/2018 21:08

Does it fit you?
Do you like it?
Can you afford it?

Then it suits you.

Stop with the horrible, casual ageism.

TollgateDebs · 26/03/2018 21:34

I agree with BIWI - what has age got to do with clothing. I hate generalizations about age. I am 56 and have 5 denim jackets, different collars, lengths, tones of blue, 1 in pink and love them all and wear them often.

cleanasawhistle · 26/03/2018 21:59

I am older than you and I wear denim jackets.

I went out to lunch with some friends and one lady brought her mother....she was dressed in a navy/white stripe tshirt ,long floaty navy skirt and a fitted denim jacket, she was 70 and looked fabulous

LuluJakey1 · 26/03/2018 22:01

I wear one lots in the summer and plan to do so for many years yet - am 39 this year.

chocolatesun · 26/03/2018 22:01

No way! I wear mine and I’m 38. Go for it.

Peanutbuttercups21 · 26/03/2018 22:06

The idea of dressing "to young for your age" or "mutton dressed as lamb" are in themselves outdated ideas, honestly.

Denim jackets are a classic, anyway and hardly controversial at any age. Confused

But really, the "dress for your age" concept has long gone!

EnidButton · 27/03/2018 03:40

In the very nicest way possible...WTF?! Grin

Firstly denim jackets are one of those staples that have been around forever.
Secondly 37 isn't bloody too old for anything.
Thirdly age shouldn't come into it anyway no matter what we're talking about. It's whether you personally like it and suit it.

Bluesheep8 · 27/03/2018 05:59

Of course you're not too old, my goodness me!!! I'm 45 this year and wear denim jackets, biker jackets, ripped jeans...if something suits you, wear it.

Booie09 · 27/03/2018 06:32

It should not be about what you wear but how you wear it!! Never to old to wear anything. Apart from Jojo bows. I'm 47 by the way.

Costacoffeeplease · 27/03/2018 06:35

I’m 52 and wear biker jackets and boots, skinny jeans, denim jackets - whatever I feel like, and don’t see that changing any time soon Smile

Floisme · 27/03/2018 07:19

To be honest, I'm not sure you're old enough to fully appreciate a denim jacket: the way it's forgiving of pretty much all bodies or the way you can leave it on the bedroom floor and put it straight back on again. But yes of course you can, no need to ask. I think the word 'classic' is overused but let's just say that, if Miss Marple were starting out now, she'd probably be wearing one.

As for what they go with - I would say pretty much anything, which is the other beautiful thing about them. And yes, I'm going to include DD. I've always had a soft spot for it and it's been cheesy long enough. I notice Kylie's been wearing it again. I think it's time

Fairylea · 27/03/2018 07:25

Shock Of course you’re not too old!

For what it’s worth I think it’s important to keep to trendier shops when buying stuff like this - it’s all about the shape (boxy or oversized but never fitted at the moment). Asos, topshop, h and m etc all have great ones. The minute you start looking in Next or John Lewis or Boden etc is the minute you start veering into non fashionable / looking older territory (I’m not saying being older is bad by the way but no one wants to look 50 when they’re 30 or 70 when they’re 50)!

ItsAllDoomAndGloom · 27/03/2018 07:52

CATEGORICALLY NO.

Sorry Smile but wear what you want! And feel comfortable in!

Thanks
ItsAllDoomAndGloom · 27/03/2018 07:52

As in No, not too old to be clear!

Undercoverbanana · 27/03/2018 08:01

I am 50 and my daughter has just customised a denim jacket for me.

NC4Now · 27/03/2018 08:06

WTAS.
41 and still wear mine with dresses, maxi skirts and harem pants.

megansmandstop · 27/03/2018 08:33

I find these "am I too old for" threads so, so depressing...so may questions I shall probably get flamed for asking so I won't.

i'll just leave this instead:

SoftBlocks · 27/03/2018 08:34

Absolute not. Denim jackets are really flattering and look good on pretty much anyone.
