For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

MARCH 2018: We managed to live through hairmageddon without any major losses. We welcomed some new inquisitive faces, reunited with some much missed old ones, and are delighted at the thought of a baby snail on its way. Now, all we need is the weather to start cooperating and match the levity in our moods…

Sophie Not criticising btw Smile Good idea otherwise.

mintmagnummm · 13/04/2018 13:46

That's exactly it Enid and stupidly I gave it a try so feeling a bit crap. Not your fault though Sophie so please do not feel bad, I just thought I'd test myself.

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 13:50

Delete delete Mint. Handy to have tested it anyway. Put it out of your head now. Phone photos are notorious shit. They do weird things to colouring and perspective. When's your go app?

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 13:50

Gp

Hi all – just checking in post GP appointment this morning. I mentioned Skinoren as something that I was interested in due to it being something I could continue using should I fall pregnant, and he seemed happy enough to give me a prescription for that. He wants me to make another appointment in a month so he can assess whether it is improving things or not – I remember him being very good about that a couple of years ago when I first started getting prescription creams.

He said I can continue to use the Duac too and experiment which of them I prefer to use in the morning and which in the evening. Does anyone here have any experience with both these and know which would be best for which time of day – both in terms of the actives in them and which make up sits better on?

I also decided to try out the Elta MD clear SPF. Anyone know of any UK stockists that are reliable? I saw Amazon and a website called Strawberrynet – is this a trustworthy beauty site?

Enid and Mint Flowers

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Friday and has lovely weekends plans. I have started my no treats Mon-Thurs this week so today I have a lovely cake to eat at the desk this afternoon Cake

mintmagnummm · 13/04/2018 14:33

Enid it's deleted I did that pretty quickly!
Have been into London today, went into space nk and spoke to lady about nars tm and she said she would have recommended this product to me anyway as it's highly recommended by dermatologists for sensitive skins and she was wearing it herself! I explained I couldn't let her test it on my face though (another part of dismorphia) she said Alaska at first but then changed her mind to the groen one JDSTER uses, as she felt this would compliment me better without needing to add bronzer or blush to warm it up. Hope I love it! Bought the tube as needed cheering up

Tantpoke · 13/04/2018 17:54

mint yay so pleased you finally bought some and got colour matched. Also really pleased that its good for sensitive skins. I hope you like it.
Space NK is great isn't it all those lovely products in one small place, nice staff too.
I am really liking my Benefit Boi-ing hydrating concealer and at least it has Vit E and apple extract so I feel it's got useful ingredients. Its housed in a lipstick style applicator so its nice to apply.

I have just pinned down my DS to apply PC BHA to his forehead because he insists on his floppy fringe which in turn causes him spots.

They are kept at bay by my Murad anti blemish face wash, but still need a helping hand.

My attempts at spraying LRP thermal water on his face were futile and were met with hostile disdain. But he was ok with putting a kirby grip in to keep his hair off his forehead Grin

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 17:55

PSA for face pokers: This morning I had an invisible to the eye hard small spot on my cheek. I now have a hard small spot on my cheek surrounded by a purple bruise. Blush

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 17:56

I was about to suggest a clip Tant Grin I clip mine back when I'm in the house.

Tantpoke · 13/04/2018 18:14

enid I had a huge spot the other day in that annoying corner outside of my nostril just above my lip, I had to restrain myself from squeezing it to avoid scarring. I blasted it with PC BHA, seems to have done the trick.

I squeezed a spot under my chin the other week and it decided to double in size to spite me and took forever to go.

Tantpoke · 13/04/2018 18:14

What does PSA mean enid

MrsDOnofrio · 13/04/2018 18:57

JDSTER - Great news Mrsd that your skin has improved. Bouncy, less oily and pores improved Envy Don't get too envious, it's just the relative improvement I've seen since I started doing proper skincare (considering the baseline of soap and Nivea). I've not turned into Helena Christensen overnight - there's not enough face cream in the universe to make that happen unfortunately!

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 19:00

Tant Public Service Announcement.Grin Like those scary health and safety mini films the government used to put out on the 70's and 80's. My bruised cheek is a warning not to poke and squeeze. Leave it be.

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 19:01

I've put some zineryt on it now btw. I need more patience with these things.

mintmagnummm · 13/04/2018 19:22

Thanks tant I hope I love it too, will keep you all posted.

Well I stupidly messed with all my breakouts the other day and made everything worse and angered them! I've had cicsplast dabbed on them all for last few nights which has definitely made them calmer and less sore! I'm going to ask gp about zineryt next week.

mintmagnummm · 13/04/2018 19:27

Enid is it right that zineryt has to be mixed by the pharmacist while you wait and then you can only keep it for 8 weeks once open??

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 20:17

Yes Mint but I get mine unmixed and mix it myself. I ask them to give me it like that as I get 2-3 at a time.

I'm very sure any pharmacist would do the same. It's really simple to mix yourself.

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 20:18

It's literally just a bottle with a bit of liquid in, a cap with powder in it, you click the two together so the powder tips in, shake for 1 minute then swop the lid for the one with the applicator on it. Takes 2 mins max.

mintmagnummm · 13/04/2018 21:21

Sounds easy enough Enid thanks, I'm a bit concerned about it only being used for 8 weeks once mixed though

EnidButton · 13/04/2018 21:26

You can get a repeat prescription so you don't have to keep going back. It still works out cheaper than a lot of acne meds and overvthe counter stuff. Get whichever fits your needs best though. Smile I went on to the zineryt because of ttc and was happy with it. There might other good things out there that I haven't considered.

Bleedin migraine starting again 😩 Did you find anything that worked for those Mint? We're a right pair! 🤕

Jozxyqk · 13/04/2018 21:38

I think I've found an online retailer for Biologique Recherche products in the UK. I should know by next week (when it arrives, hopefully!) It did appear to be a secure site. If it's not a scam I'll post the details on this thread.

Tantpoke · 13/04/2018 23:53

enid i did have to walk around for a couple of days with a huge yellow crusty zit which was not ideal, but better than a few weeks of the aftermath of squeezing.

mintmagnummm · 14/04/2018 06:33

Enid I'll speak to gp and see what she thinks. I've woken up with the start of migraine again too! Haven't found a solution yet, my codeine for fibromyalgia doesn't touch my migraines and the aspirin didn't work either. Have tried few things without success! Will be discussing beta blockers with gp on tues.

mintmagnummm · 14/04/2018 11:37

Used nars tm this morn and just want to say the colour is definitely right! Alaska was far too yellow. Will update you after I've used it for a while.

BackwardFlip · 14/04/2018 11:52

mint thats great news, you got a match. My skin tone has always been a bit yellow / orange the colour most foundations seem to be that so many people hate Grin
