Should I cut my hair into a short bob?

I've loved the look of shorter hair on people lately, and I am toying with the idea of cutting my hair into a short bob. I don't have that long hair at the moment, reaches my collarbone. I love the look of Pandora Sykes' bob, as well as Rosamund Pike's when she had it in the bob style for a film.

Have any of you regretted cutting your hair into a bob, or do you think I should just go for it, it will grow back if I hate it?

I know what you mean Lockedout. If it were me I would have some more lights at the front. I find that if a person really loves their bob then it tends to work on them. I love mine and all bobs in general Smile

If you look at Pandora Syke's and Rosamund Peake's bobs they both have quite fine hair, so it won't bush out; they probably have delicate, graduated layers which only a skilled cutter can do in a subtle way; and their hair has been well coloured and probably needs redoing at the roots every two weeks; and R P's in particular looks blow-dried, so it would not look so sleek without that.

Toomany I love their bobs Smile I myself have fine blond hair and have it blunt cut so it looks thicker.

DottyDotts · 17/03/2018 14:30

Did you mean Rosalind Pike though ?

TooManyMiles · 17/03/2018 14:54

These French styles are a bit more Romantic.

Sorry about getting the name wrong before Dotty.

Funny, that bob with a fringe would make me look like dora the explorer but it's lovely on that beautiful french actress whoever she is.

proceed with caution.

Marion Cotillard's hair is really thin. It looks nice in styled photos at events but her hair is probably dificile

JestFromTheWest · 17/03/2018 15:20

That what you wish for versus reality photo up thread made me laugh!
I see curly hair and I think yeh, I'll tousle mine, work with what I've got. And then after spending 45 minutes on my hair, I look in the mirror see Jonathan Creek staring back at me.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 17/03/2018 15:33

Toomanymiles are you actually saying all those 15 hairstyles are 'horrible mombobs'?! I think you've misunderstood the article. I don't think Victoria Beckham has ever been accused of having a 'dreaded mombob'

TooManyMiles · 17/03/2018 15:50

No not all are horrible at all, but it is more that Mums can go for this sort of style, especially after having a baby when their hair is falling out, and it may well not look like it does on Victoria Beckham. So people need to try to think about what would suit them individually rather than assume this will do the rick.

Many of those styles are very shiny and smooth and coloured. Just what does it take to really look like that everyday in reality? What if you don't have high cheekbones and a delicate neck? What if you have cut off all the longer tips of your hair and are left with a dull look? What if your hair is very thick and sticks out, rather than softly falling to your jaw?

JestFromTheWest · 17/03/2018 15:52

I think picking the wrong cut for our hair type is something all women, young or old, mother or not a mother have done!

DottyDotts · 17/03/2018 17:14

Toomany Smile

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 17/03/2018 17:22

Toomany sorry I thought you posted that link in response to me asking for examples of hideous mombobs.

TooManyMiles · 17/03/2018 18:21

No, sorry, I can see you might have thought that. It was the the only link to so many images I could find and happened to called Mom Bobs.

I have known some mums though who cut off their hair and it seriously looked as though they were trying to look less attractive, as thought they were pulling out of life really. Though no doubt it was just a mistake or bad advice from a hairdresser I think it is something to watch out for.

Way back in the thread though some other posters put up photos of long bobs they had had done and these did look lovely imo.

DameDoom · 18/03/2018 13:35

Thank you SchnitzelVonnKrum it's an old Jigsaw cocoon one. I have just had my bob done shorter - am MN rebel. Bobs for all is my motto.

MymbleClement · 18/03/2018 15:02

I have fine hair and having it cut into a mid length bob is the best thing I've done to it. My hairdresser told me to avoid mum hair I should have a blunt cut, no layers, and don't curl it under when I style it. I do flat iron waves on it and I get tons of compliments!

keepingbees · 18/03/2018 18:29

Have done what you want OP, nothing wrong with a bob. Granted some styles might look frumpy but that goes for any style, including long hair that just hangs.
I've just had my hair cut into a graduated bob as my long hair was dry, splitting and making me feel a mess. It now feels a lot more modern and looks thicker and glossier.
I was going to go for shoulder length but the hairdresser said it would probably flick out where it touched my shoulders and would need more styling, so we went a bit shorter. I love it and it's still long enough to curl.
