Curly girl help (with photo!)

I’ve been doing the CG method for about 8 months now, but I think I need to try some new products.

I have quite fine hair, and it’s wavy/curly. I was using the Cantu range (shampoo, conditioner and curl activator) plus a cheap gel, but have started to switch to Shea Moisture. I use the fruit fusion shampoo for fine hair and it’s made my curls a lot bouncier.

I think I might buy the fruit fushion conditioner, but does anyone have any recommendations for a light curl creme and gel? My curls seem to drop by the end of the day, so I think I need more hold.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I love the pink Umberto Giannini gel from boots

CurlyGirlHelp · 03/03/2018 04:23

Is that the curl jelly one?

Don't shampoo or shampoo less?

CurlyGirlHelp · 03/03/2018 08:28

last that doesn’t work for me unfortunately, because my hair is so fine. It gets washed once a week but if I co-wash, it weighs it down too much and doesn’t curl as well.

Yeah the jelly. I also love the mousse in the same range, not sure if the curl creme is cg friendly though. I also have OGX coconut curls mousse and I love that too.

lasttimeround · 03/03/2018 08:40

I see. How about using lighter thinner conditioner? Although I suspect the real answer is the right gel or mousse.

Your hair is gorgeous

I think it is the styling products that are my issue, only because it curls so nicely when freshly washed, and for the day after. Although maybe I’m not looking after it correctly on non wash days? I normally pineapple it at night and just wet any bits that have lost their curl, but that’s it really.

Have you tried the Shea moisture curling gel soufflé? It's really good

CurlyGirlHelp · 03/03/2018 09:43

I’ve just googled that Elf and there seems to be a lot of bad reviews?!

Lovely hair OP, I'm very jealous Blush

The Aveda one is supposed to be good.

I have just switched to cantu shampoo and conditioner for my curly hair , was using the shea moisture one but not the fruit fusion , there are so may it's confusing.

My hair is also fine . Is it a cream to use on shampoo days or to freshen up on non shampoo days.

I have the mixed chicks leave in conditioner and it's really good , I tend to mix it with a bit of water in my hands to freshen up my hair on non shampoo days , but use full strength on shampoo days and it holds my curl really well.

I have just ordered a silk cap to sleep in ..very attractive but I'm hoping it will help with bed head , already sleep on a silk pillowcase but feel I need more help Grin

CurlyGirlHelp · 03/03/2018 11:33

Ah a silk cap! I wonder if that will be more attractive than the old tshirt I currently wrap my head in Grin

You should try the fruit fusion shea moisture, my curls are so much lighter and bouncier since I switched to that from the Cantu. I think the Cantu range suits more Afro Caribbean hair because it’s quite thick and heavy.

I have curly hair and I find the V05 mega gold gel gives really good hold - my hair is still the same amount of curly the next day with it. It's CG friendly

Skinfulnappies46 · 03/03/2018 14:00

The Pantene mousse is supposed to be very good and is cg friendly. I use the gianni curl jelly but I think if you use the mousse first then some gel on top it would give your hair good hold and definition .

creaturefeatures · 03/03/2018 14:06

I like the Aveda one, you only need one tiny squirt of it though!

snoooop · 03/03/2018 15:32

Fuck me your hair is amazing Envy

Your hair looks great, OP!

CurlyGirlHelp · 03/03/2018 18:49

Ah thank you all! It was a particularly good hair day yesterday... today not so much!

I think I’m going to have to give a few of the suggestions here a go and see if anything is up to the job!

I’ve also got fine curly hair , I find I get the best curl hold with mousse and have now completely given up on gel , Boots own curl mousse is pretty good an dirt cheap, my fine curly hair cannot take lots of product , currently use one of the elvive lowpoo cleansers and mousse which seems to give good results, another thing I have is that my hair is much less curly when the weather is cold

Ladybirdbookworm · 03/03/2018 19:31

Your hair is beautiful

secretgirl · 03/03/2018 20:20

Your hair is gorgeous.
But I am following the CG method too and find the same. My curls are pretty much falling out after a few hours.
I am only 3 months in though. I am using treseme botanicals as a leave in and just today tried the shockwaves gel after with a bit of shock waves mousse at the roots. It looks pretty good so far. I have been using this gel without leave in and love it.
The Shea moisture suffle is extremely sticky but definitely a little for a a.long way. Of you 're on Facebook there are quite a few CG groups and the have UK CG safe products listed in their files. Its hard finding the right products and method. It becomes an obsession Smile
