I’ve been doing the CG method for about 8 months now, but I think I need to try some new products.

I have quite fine hair, and it’s wavy/curly. I was using the Cantu range (shampoo, conditioner and curl activator) plus a cheap gel, but have started to switch to Shea Moisture. I use the fruit fusion shampoo for fine hair and it’s made my curls a lot bouncier.

I think I might buy the fruit fushion conditioner, but does anyone have any recommendations for a light curl creme and gel? My curls seem to drop by the end of the day, so I think I need more hold.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

I think a mousse might be the way to go (well, try, at least) - I guess it makes sense that it would be lighter than a gel.

I had an appointment with Vicky Queen of Curls last week, and she uses Trepadora products. My hair is fine like yours and my curls were fab for a couple of days! Worth a browse, I'm planning to buy once I have used up my current products.

MrBennOfFestiveRoad · 04/03/2018 22:20

I have fine curly hair and the best mousse that I’ve found is the Elnett curls one, although I’m not certain that it’s CG friendly.

CurlyGirlHelp · 05/03/2018 05:38

Ive just got completely lost down the rabbit hole of the Trepadora Instagram page. I’m considering driving an hour to their salon for a hair cut!

@•CurlyGirlHelp* omg me too , i'm going to order the Babassu Quench curl primer and the papaya slip tamer ..good for fine curls apparently

whiskyremorse · 05/03/2018 17:47

Oops sorry for providing a new spending opportunity! I'll go and look at the Instagram too...

sminkypinky · 05/03/2018 21:03

I came on here to recommend the Trepadora range. I've been using it for a few months now and love it. I did try the Babassu Quench curl primer and really didn't get along with it, it was way too heavy for my hair. The Papaya slip tamer totally transformed my hair.

Laquila · 05/03/2018 21:32

Your hair is my ideal hair OP!! Gorgeous.

I tried CG for a couple of months but it was one step forward and two steps back. I had most success with Tresemmé Undone conditioner for co-washing, and Living Proof Curl Creme worked quite well for me. Cantu was a disaster. Shea Moisture Creme-Gel (green tube) was the worst product I’ve ever used - I couldn’t for the life of me understand how it could work for anyone. Their shampoo and conditioner in the pink bottles were ok though.

Plopping left me with no volume and WHATEVER I did, my curls dropped by the end of the day. I blame my kids, basically - my hair used to be bouncier than a kangaroo on a trampoline and then my kids RUINED it.

Whiskyremorse I am jealous...I don’t live too far from Manchester and have been ogling her Instagram. Did you have a cut and restyle? Did you buy any Trepadora products?

CurlyGirlHelp · 06/03/2018 07:59

Ive ordered the papaya slip tamer too! And one other thing... cant remember now.

I’ve also read that I’ve been doing plopping wrong. The day I wash my hair, I hate it because it’s so flat against my scalp! And only looks nice and voluminous after being slept on in a pineapple.

I’ll come back and let you know how it’s going with the trepadora stuff and new plopping!

Curly Girl yes let us know how you get on with Trepadora.
I also follow CG method and recommend Boucleme curl cream and gel, not heavy at all so shouldn't weigh down your curls at all...
For a once a week deep condition (after sulfate free shampoo) I recommend Shea Moisture super fruit 10 in 1 multi benefit Masque, really lovely and silicon free, doesn't weigh down curls either.
I recently got the Cantu hydrating cream conditioner for co washing but not very impressed, will use up but unlikely to re-order.
Finally another super gel is Deva Curl ultra defining gel, lovely lovely on my curls but I think I'm more curly than you (see pics) so it may be too heavy for your finer curls.

Re root lift: I dry my hair with Diffuser head upside down to give volume at root on lowest setting. Doesn't damage my curls and in my case I get more bouncy curls and root lift than left to dry naturally. I only do till it's 80% dry and that's enough without heat damage...
Intrigued by bonnets but can imagine DH face Confused, thinking of investigating silk pillows instead...
Note photo taken before and after curl cut using Boucleme products (Lindsay the curl whisperer salon in London)
Hope this helps you and other curlies

Another vote for Mixed Chics leave in conditioner 😀

whiskyremorse · 09/03/2018 16:43

Laquila I had a restyle with Vicky and was really pleased with it. Unfortunately I had my hair done in the foul weather so had to put a hat on before I could take a photo! I will see if I can block my face out of the before and after! I didn't buy any products as I am trying to use up before buying but keen stalking the trepadora website so don't think my willpower will last very long!

whiskyremorse · 09/03/2018 17:39

Curly girl help have you tried putting the curls along your parting in clips as it dries? Vicky did this to my hair and it gave it loads more volume. I'll try to find a photo of what I mean

I do that with clips , it does add loads of volume ...just remember to take them out before you get to work Blush

Skinfulnappies46 · 09/03/2018 19:53

soyo your hair is fabulous xx

lecossaise · 09/03/2018 20:00

Have you tried conditioning before you shampoo? Sounds plain wrong, I know, but swapping the order a few months ago did WONDERS for my fine wavy-curly hair - it stops it being weighed down so curls stay for longer (I also prefer mousse to gel - I like Umberto too)

ggirl · 10/03/2018 13:54

wow ! I used the Trepadora stuff today and my hair is so curly I've had to tame it down a bit

bananaberyl · 10/03/2018 22:51

How do you plop? What is 'wrong' (how you have been doing it) and what is the way you're going to do it?
Are you on the Facebook group curly girls (conditioner washing group for women). Lots of tips there Smile

whiskyremorse · 12/03/2018 14:32

Ggirl what Trepadora products have you used?

ggirl · 12/03/2018 17:00

I used the Babassu Quench curl primer and the papaya slip tamer. Both go on after washing and conditioning onto wet hair.
Really impressed , I diffused dry and my hair was huge and curly , next time will probably leave to air dry.

CurlyGirlHelp · 11/04/2018 07:50

Just thought I’d come on to update on the Trepadora products. I’ve actually not been hugely impressed sadly! They make my hair so unbelievably soft, but nowhere near as curly, in fact it’s all almost straight by day two.

For plopping, I used to brush my hair under the shower upside down, apply a creme, then plop it into a tshirt soaking wet. Now I’ve been scrunching the moisture out with a tshirt first, giving the roots a little shake, and then plopping. It’s so much better.

I’ve also discovered that washing my hair in the evening and putting it into a pineapple when it’s still very slightly damp gives me amazing volume and curls the next day. So I’m still using the products I listed in the OP, and I’m happy with the curls I think. Whichever PP said to just carry on with what I’m doing, you were right and I should have listened Grin

Can I be a bit of a stalker and ask where you get your hair cut (pm me if you want to) and how you describe the cut..... My hair is almost identical to yours but has got longer now and I have left hairdressers and had a cry on more than one occasion.

(I just use a cheapy conditioner to co wash and boots pink curl creme)

ftw · 11/04/2018 09:49

Have you tried a conditioner/water mix spray on non-wash days? Works miracles here. (I can’t get silk things to stay on head whilst I’m sleeping so I always wake looking crazed...)

endoftether82 · 11/04/2018 09:50

Your hair is so lovely.
