Anyone turning their back on ‘anti - aging’?

omBreROSE · 01/03/2018 11:30

I’d always used organic/simple products... my skin is fine ( l’m in my mid 40’s)
Anyway, l got sucked into watching blogs/ YouTube tutorials etc... l wanted to try everything to delay the inevitable. I’d previously been sensible and realised there was nothing, bar botox/fillers that might make a difference.
Yes, there are the retinols etc... but *they need careful monitoring and can just set your skin off - whenever!
I’ve been trying one Ordinary product after the next, on ( what l think now) is a journey on to nothing!
Seeing as only the retinols can penetrate the skin - maybe everything else is just not worth it?
Emotionally or financially?
Has anyone thought they’d try to ‘fix it’ and then thought “bugger it!”Grin
If you did, what is your skincare routine now, and what did you do previously?
I’m leaning toward a nice simple moisturiser and a good SPF. Smile

Everyone I know who has had Botox injected in their foreheads for a good length of time now has the Botox Vein;

What a crock of shit.

FruitCider · 02/03/2018 22:47

I've been having botox for 4 years. No vein.

Serious question, with all the forehead shots - is that where you get Botox? Is that the moan place that people get this? Could you not just get a fringe. Not being facetious but don't know much about Botox.

Timefortea99 · 02/03/2018 23:40

Not moan, main place

rightknockered · 02/03/2018 23:54

I'm calling her a bimbo because her entire career has been based on exposing her bosom.
And what is wrong with that? She had an asset which she used to make money, quite successfully. Why call her a bimbo? She is obviously not stupid.

Ollivander84 · 02/03/2018 23:59

Time - yep. I had it in horizontal forehead lines and in the vertical lines between my eyebrows. No chance of a fringe for me as I have incredibly curly hair Grin

ShewasjustawishStevie · 03/03/2018 06:02

rightknockered - viewing your breasts as a money making asset is wrong to me. Page 3, porn, topless snapshots posted to Instagram, Kardashian-style, demean all women.

I've just stopped trying to look younger and now try to look my best. I was for years told I looked younger but now time has caught up and I don't. But I don't see why I should have to?

sportyfool · 03/03/2018 07:03

@Twoweekcruise
It just comes up sometimes , so if someone is talking about a tv show and I say I can't remember it or fashion etc.
Often people ask me if I'm having more children and I say I'm too old so then they ask how old I am and genuinely seem shocked .. I do think with me there are other factors though . I'm short and have curly hair and long eyelashes , all these things are youthful in a way so it isn't just my face although I don't have any lines compared to some of the mums that are younger . It's mostly down to luck and genetics although I have never smoked and am fair so haven't sunbathed much if at all.

FruitCider · 03/03/2018 07:40

Yes, but it's in response to a PP making a ridiculous claim that everyone who has botox ends up with a "botox vein" on their forehead.

Why not just grow a fringe? It doesn't stop the general sagging of skin on the face.

zippyswife · 03/03/2018 07:53

This is a really interesting thread.

I looked great in my 30s. God, I wish I’d have realised it at the time! But as others have said at 40 the ageing process seemed to catch up with me all of a sudden. I’m now debating to Botox or not to Botox. I’m such a natural looking person (no obvious make up/Hair natural colour) that it would probably shock anyone that knows me if they knew I was even considering it. I never thought I’d consider it but the sag around the mouth is making me think again.

I think that some Botox/help must be very natural looking. Take Julianne Moore. She looks fantastic and very unlined in a natural way, it appears she’s had no work done but can she really be that lucky to be that fresh faced at near 60? Whatever she’s had done I want it.

zippyswife · 03/03/2018 07:54

I wish I was a man. I’d grow a beard and hide the sag.

Pleasebeafleabite · 03/03/2018 08:18

This is my forehead taken in 2006 pre botox when I was in my mid thirties

Been down memory lane this morning thanks to this thread

In answer to why not a fringe. I have seen some truly embarrassing fringe shots in my album today which has reminded me I am not a fringe person

With regards to human race and women dressing especially to please men, I am fairly sure we would survive even if we didn't.

Delatron · 03/03/2018 09:45

I agree Julianne Moore looks great, she's very fair so may have kept out of the sun. She's had some very good work done though.

Can Botox help with general sag around the mouth? I'm still worrying about muscle atrophy (not a problem in the forehead but would be around the jaw). My other reason I'm delaying is I've heard the wrinkles transfer elsewhere, normally under the eyes as you compensate for lack of movement you start using other muscles more?

ParalyticPeach · 03/03/2018 09:58

I have a massive diagonal crease down one side of my forehead, its a sleeping crease that never goes away now, as I sleep on my front on that side. I just shove some cream on it in the morning and forget about it, its still there tho, but it doesnt bother me. Me and DH joke about each others wrinkles and grey pubes! We have been together for 31 years since teenagers and are growing old together. Smile

Gwenhwyfar · 03/03/2018 10:02

The main thing that would put me off Botox is that it has to be re-done all the time. You'd have to be very well off to afford to keep up with it. I imagine it's even more disappointing to do it once and not be able to afford to have more.

SukiTheDog · 03/03/2018 11:08

@Paralytic, I have something similar. I sleep in the recovery position 😐 and I’ve a (what I thought was) sleep crease running the full length of my forehead. On closer inspection , it’s a dent in my skull. A fine dent, but actually, the bone rather than the skin. It’s visable now because as we age, we loose the fat cushioning, under the dermis apparently. So, I’m stuck with it. Might have to have a fringe cut in, as time goes on.

The whole point of botox is to cause mild muscle atrophy, as it's the movement that gives the deeper lines.

The dermis is wrinkled when you are younger, as you age it becomes flatter and your epidermis wrinkles over the top. Botox in the upper face can keep the skin in that area taut. The sagging around the lower face is caused by the skin on the upper face drooping. So botox initially then temple and cheek fillers to fill out the upper face and underpin the whole structure can prevent the problems with marionettes and nasolabial folds.

Delatron · 03/03/2018 11:49

Thanks fruitCider. I think I'm more concerned about the sagging jaw line and wondered what could be done here!

omBreROSE · 03/03/2018 13:19

Up thread someone asked how people find out your age/ think you look younger. I get it all the time like this:
“Have you any kids”
Me: Yes,
“Oh how old are they!”
Etc...
My eldest is an adult.
So then l get:
“You don’t look old enough to have a child that age - you must have been very young then... ( slightly nosy face)
Me: “No, mid 20’s
Or...
Me: Oh l remember that artist / film/ song...
Them: “ but you don’t look old enough!”
Anyway...
This is kind of why l stated this thread.
Disgusted with myself for constantly being told l look younger - and yet, trying hard to make myself even more youthful
I think that lots of people still loook good in their 40’s + , but it is assumed they will melt that early

I'm always astounded by all the women on MN who say they are 47 or whatever and have no wrinkles. I have never met a 47 year old with no wrinkles at all...I'm thinking maybe their eyes are going 😂 (which is how nature protects us from the truth!)

Oliversmumsarmy · 03/03/2018 13:37

I am nearly 60 and have a smooth forehead
I don't have crows feet either.

This is because my jowls are so weighed down that any creases are pulled out.

I have looked on line to see if there is anything I could do but before pictures show women with quite mild sag.
My face resembles that of a blood hound.

People think I am miserable because even if I am finding something amusing unless I instigate a broad grin I look down in the mouth

sportyfool · 03/03/2018 14:09

@IfNot .. I wonder this as well , I don't have any when my face is resting but I do have creases around my eyes when I laugh And I do love to laugh .
When people say they don't have wrinkles are they talking about resting face or do they never laugh ?🤔🤔

neveradullmoment99 · 03/03/2018 14:48

I think they are talking about their resting faces. I have very few wrinkles on my face. A few fine lines under my eyes and forehead. When I laugh of course doesn't everyone?
Unfortunately I make It all up on my neck !
