Anyone turning their back on ‘anti - aging’?

omBreROSE · 01/03/2018 11:30

I’d always used organic/simple products... my skin is fine ( l’m in my mid 40’s)
Anyway, l got sucked into watching blogs/ YouTube tutorials etc... l wanted to try everything to delay the inevitable. I’d previously been sensible and realised there was nothing, bar botox/fillers that might make a difference.
Yes, there are the retinols etc... but *they need careful monitoring and can just set your skin off - whenever!
I’ve been trying one Ordinary product after the next, on ( what l think now) is a journey on to nothing!
Seeing as only the retinols can penetrate the skin - maybe everything else is just not worth it?
Emotionally or financially?
Has anyone thought they’d try to ‘fix it’ and then thought “bugger it!”Grin
If you did, what is your skincare routine now, and what did you do previously?
I’m leaning toward a nice simple moisturiser and a good SPF. Smile

delatron she does have the most amazing skin. Shows that Retinol-a must work. Not sure if I can handle the peeling/flaky face stage though!

ShewasjustawishStevie · 02/03/2018 17:33

Karen Allen - not black. Could imagine her face but got her name wrong - unless Harrison Ford who everyone knows.

bananafish81 · 02/03/2018 17:36

@SukiTheDog that doesn't mean she hasn't had any non surgical work done (eg peels or injectables) botox for example could be used deftly in certain areas to soften very deep lines - doesn't have to be used everywhere or automatically mean a billiard ball smooth face

She may well indeed not have had any non surgical work done, however the point is that we wouldnt know either way. The fact she still has visible lines doesn't mean she's not had anything done.

ShewasjustawishStevie · 02/03/2018 17:40

Oh god I'm crap at this! Kerry McGillis not that buxom bimbo Kelly Brook Blush but it does rather prove Floisme's point!

SukiTheDog · 02/03/2018 17:47

Oh, OK @Banana

Oddgirlout · 02/03/2018 17:54

Can anyone recommend a good sunscreen that they use? Seems like this is the best skincare that everyone uses!

Floisme · 02/03/2018 17:56

You did better than me She - I'd have never remembered Karen Allen. She was in the first Indianna Jones film - in fact it was watching it again the other night that started the game.

All I could think of was:
Sean Young in Bladerunner who was on the Harvey Weinstein doc last night, talking about how she barely worked again after Weinstein labelled her 'difficult.'

Kelly McGillis in Witness - who interestingly was also labelled 'difficult', as I recall, and vanished from view.

Melanie Griffiths in Working Girl - can't remember when I saw her last.

The only one who was easy to remember was Carrie Fisher.

The rest - no idea. And yet how many films has he made?
We then tried to do the same with Keanu Reeves and the only one I could think of was Carrie Ann Moss. Blush

bananafish81 · 02/03/2018 17:56

I use Elta MD spf 46 sunscreen, recommended to me by a consultant dermatologist - it's lovely! Not too heavy or sticky, goes on fine over moisturiser and under makeup

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/03/2018 18:40

I use the lrp spf 50 for oily skin but when I started I used garnier spf 50.

As long as it's 5 star uva I'll use it. I put in on my neck and chest too.

BrendasUmbrella · 02/03/2018 18:53

Everyone I know who has had Botox injected in their foreheads for a good length of time now has the Botox Vein; an angry raised vein running down the centre of their foreheads. And as far as I can tell it's permanent. A lot of Hollywood actresses have it. I think fine lines look better.

OMG 😱 I can't stop seeing celebrity veins they all have them

DioxideBlonde · 02/03/2018 20:13

I try and make the very best of what Nature gave me, but would never resort to Botox or fillers. So I look after my teeth and have had them whitened, but not to chalky white extremes. I take very good care of my skin with gentle Ren products, a dab of retinol at night and factor 50 sunscreen every morning.

I am quite tall but have never let myself go bigger than a size 12, and prefer simple scandi style clothes with just an occasional nod towards fashion. I always wear good lingerie and good perfume every day.

So, I hope I look polished and well groomed for a 40-something woman, but I never delude myself that I look 30.

OCSockOrphanage · 02/03/2018 20:16

At 62, I am happy-ish with how I look. I'm not young and don't expect to be seen as young. Youthful, as in a spring in the step and walking upright, is very very important. So I do Pilates, take regular exercise, mostly walking the dog about 4-5k every day regardless of the weather, on rough hilly ground. I eat sensibly, no denial of treats but in limited quantity mostly, and everything stays pretty healthy.

Yazoop · 02/03/2018 20:17

Do you think the vein thing is because the rest of the forehead is relaxed and therefore veins become more prominent? It is really noticeable!

neveradullmoment99 · 02/03/2018 20:49

Everyone I know who has had Botox injected in their foreheads for a good length of time now has the Botox Vein;

Not true for everyone. I have had this ALL my life and my son has inherited this!!!! We have NEVER had botox.

neveradullmoment99 · 02/03/2018 20:50

^ I have had a vein in my forehead all my life!!!! to clarify. Not true!

minipie · 02/03/2018 20:57

I know a couple of people with the forehead vein (one is DH). Neither has had botox but they both have thin skin and very low body fat. I suspect that's more likely to be the cause than botox...

rightknockered · 02/03/2018 21:16

I get the vein when I've had a run of sleepless nights and drank too much coffee.

rightknockered · 02/03/2018 21:17

Can I just ask people to refrain from calling women bimbos based on bust sizes. Totally uncalled for imo

Pleasebeafleabite · 02/03/2018 21:44

This is me. Botox 4 times a year for 8 years and not of bulging vein

Anyone turning their back on ‘anti - aging’?
Dozer · 02/03/2018 22:04

Very obvious botox though.

Pleasebeafleabite · 02/03/2018 22:18

It’s either that or I look like Gordon Ramsay’s twin sister Wink

Lesser of two evils

FruitCider · 02/03/2018 22:42

I have botox.

I posted a profile pic of me from 2006 and nobody realised it was a 12 year old photo.

ShewasjustawishStevie · 02/03/2018 22:44

I'm calling her a bimbo because her entire career has been based on exposing her bosom.
