What items of clothing do you think adults shouldn't wear?

This was inspired by the Heart Patch jeans thread, some posters said they looked like Mini Boden kids clothes. I personally really liked them. It got me thinking, which items of clothing do you thiink adults really can't get away with? For example, I know some people say pinafores and Dungarees look stupid on adults.

Onesies - as in the pyjama/lounge wear items, not jumpsuits.

Anything childlike, such as with Disney characters depicted on them, or hats with cats ears for example.

Ugg boots.

Fleece jackets.

Duffle coats.

PunkrockerGirl59 · 25/02/2018 23:12

I think I look fine
Of course you do, but have you ever swivelled round and examined what you look like from behind? Believe me, it's not a good look.
Of course that model looks ok, she's paid to look good in ridiculous clothes.

FabalaTheGreenGirl · 25/02/2018 23:40

Flesh coloured ANYTHING (if you have pale skin).

alpineibex · 26/02/2018 02:10

Of course I check what I look like from behind Hmm I'm a very self-conscious person. I've just never seen anything weird about it.

You said they don't look good on the behind of anyone, of any shape or size, so the model shouldn't either.

I love culottesGrin

alpineibex · 26/02/2018 02:12

So I have no idea what you're talking about sorry. My behind looks basically the same in culottes as it does in trousers to my eyes.

alpineibex · 26/02/2018 02:13

But then I wear cold-shoulder tops too so Wink

Todamhottoday · 26/02/2018 05:58

Those fleece multi coloured jackets with pictures of wolves/dogs/eagles

They set my teeth on edge, just think they look rather weird and sinister for some reason

Three quarter length trousers are very hip round my way, for women and men. So the poster much earlier who said those who wear them are of the demographic who use incontinence products is wrong wrong wrong (and it's Tena, not Tenna, btw).

EllieMe · 26/02/2018 06:17

Grown men wearing baseball caps. They look ridiculous.

WilburIsSomePig · 26/02/2018 07:05

My friend wears culottes and looks amazing in them. I look awful in them!

scatteredglitter · 26/02/2018 07:06

Pale pink or tan skinny jeans definate no no for me

ShotsFired · 26/02/2018 07:12

Cutesy cute nightwear with teddy bears and other stupid shit like that on them.

It's creepy.

ShowOfHands · 26/02/2018 07:21

This thread is depressing.

I wear wtf I like and thankfully, don't give a flying monkey's left testicle what other people think. My clothes don't exist to please their judgy little eyes or narrow little minds. I wholly agree that if it's vulgar and offensive or not fit for purpose, you may have a point but otherwise, this is just a great example of the miserable world my 10yo DD is growing up in. She's already at that point where she is wearing the "wrong" clothes and a few of her y6 peers delight in pointing it out. She is happy, comfortable and unique. I'd rather she wore unfashionable clothes than an air of superiority and veneer of unkindness.

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2018 10:02

Oh dear, that's a bit of a bitter reaction.

We are all going to have clothes or looks we don't like. It's just light hearted. Of course no one should be cruel to adults or kids if they are wearing something they personally dislike. And yes arseholes exist everywhere.

It would be lovely if we could all dress as we pleased and not give a shit if anyone thought we looked ridiculous but most of us don't have that level of self confidence. It's lovely you do.

Not liking what someone wears doesn't mean you don't like them as a person. I hate leopard print for example. Ive a close friend who loves it. Jackets, tops, shoes. I don't like her any less for it. I don't judge her for it, simply accept we have different tastes.

PNGirl · 26/02/2018 10:57

Hm. I do think that if you're going to barrel into a thread like this and say people "shouldn't" wear things that 80% of the population do as evidenced by other threads e.g. trainers or breton stripes, you need to be aware you're probably going to piss someone off.

sinceyouask · 26/02/2018 12:13

Only items they don't like and don't want to wear.

DullAndOld · 26/02/2018 12:16

leggings worn on their own.
other than that, pretty much anything goes...
