What items of clothing do you think adults shouldn't wear?

This was inspired by the Heart Patch jeans thread, some posters said they looked like Mini Boden kids clothes. I personally really liked them. It got me thinking, which items of clothing do you thiink adults really can't get away with? For example, I know some people say pinafores and Dungarees look stupid on adults.

I actually think OTHER people look good in dungas.
I wouldn't.

A New Look 915 playsuit.

On holiday in Spain fully grown woman was wearing the exact same playsuit as my then 10yo dd in the hotel restaurant.
Dd wore age 9 to 10 with some flat sandals. The shorts were loose and flappy and more than covered her bottom.
Grown lady(similar on age to me so around 40) was wearing goodness knows what size play suit with 4 inch stiletto heels. It was looking very snug indeed. Lots if bum cheek hanging out the back, Boobs stretching the buttoned front but the shocker was the unavoidable to see camel toe or shall I say fabric covered vulva!!

My 10yo dd kept saying "that lady's got the same play suit as me". Other diners kept staring at dd then lady!!

I'm usually live and let live, especially on holiday but there really wasn't anything stylish or nice about the look and I couldn't get past how a 915 play suit was probably meant to look on someone - and how it actually looked.

Wear what makes you happy.
Fashion is self expression, it is an outward sign of who you are, so don’t change what you wear to please other people. Be yourself, wear yourself.

Disclaimer : that doesn’t mean I can’t see you VERY clearly Man With offensive Logo Teeshirt. I know EXACTLY who you are.

Erm.. Hmm
It's comfortable and passable smart enough for the situation, not an "expression" of my inner self or anything else for that matter Lol

When I was a teenager I was so unconfident.... would wear nothing outlandish, I thought my legs were awful
So didn't wear short skirts.... I thought I had a big tummy so didn't wear crop tops..... even though I really wanted to....

In reality.... I was a size 6, and when I look back at pictures I think what on Earth was I so worried about!!! Now I do have a muffin top and I think I'm too old for short skirts.... so I wish id worn them when I had the chance!

Now I am trying to break my jeans and tshirt rut and wear what I like!

NorksAreMessy · 24/02/2018 22:05

But isn’t that what you are expressing “I want to be comfortable and smart”...not “I want to be sexy and cool” or “ I want to be edgy and deep”. You are being yourself...comfortable and smart (and hopefully warm in this weather)

A bra. They're uncomfortable as fuck. Apart from that, adults should just wear whatever they want, why not?

PunkrockerGirl59 · 24/02/2018 22:09

Culottes on any age group look ridiculous and should never have been invented.
Agree playsuits on toddlers are cute, on adults just no.

Bluntness100 · 24/02/2018 22:10

My bras are perfectly comfortable. You might be wearing the wrong size or type. Something soft and not under wired might work for you.

SpringHen · 24/02/2018 22:13

No!
I would LIKE to look chic and cool, but I look like dogshit in "fashion" clothes, so I settle for looking not homeless in plain smartish clothes.
INSIDE I'm a impish and wear flowey gossamer impractical pastels that would wash me out in real life, and I don't always have to cover my flabby blotchy upper arms Grin

Pleasebeafleabite · 24/02/2018 22:15

Dungarees just make me think of mucky looking kevin rowland singing come on eileen

Gilets strike me as pointless- designed to keep you warm but failing miserably due to a key design flaw

Ugg boots are lovely in the freezing cold weather we’ve had this week - a total pleasure to put on

NorksAreMessy · 24/02/2018 22:18

springhen you are a hoot.
I have never managed ‘chic and cool’ and have a sister who does it effortlessly (seemingly).
I would have loved to be able to wear androgynous funky styles with a pixie cut, but really, that is not who I am....just who I wish I was.
It would be dressing up. Interesting subject this, thank you OP

TroysMammy · 24/02/2018 22:23

I love 3/4 trousers. As I'm just under 5ft they are normal length on me.

overnightangel there has been many a time I've posted about my hatred of grey jogging bottoms. Even worse the matching hoodie, I call it the grey combo.

OliviaBkn · 24/02/2018 22:29

Same, I love a pixie cut but it would not suit my round, chubby face 😂

AnnabelleLecter · 24/02/2018 22:33

Crocs.

MeadowHay · 24/02/2018 22:50

I don't get the people complaining about people wearing sportswear out of the gym. Sportswear is designed to be super comfy, so isn't it obvious why people wear it outside of the gym? Confused I'm not that big on it personally but I can see why people do. Easy to put on and very comfy. Plus it's easy to say 'ew tracksuits' but then it's one less thing to worry about when you're getting dressed cos you have two pieces that go together that you just put on. Again not something I do but I can see why other people might.

SomeKnobend · 24/02/2018 23:11

Thanks bluntness. I've done the intervention and everything. Non underwired is less uncomfortable, but no bra is much more comfortable. Not the best look maybe but I'm not here for decoration!

DunnoWhy · 24/02/2018 23:15

Going men wearing their trousers (jeans) very, very low. So much so that their pants are completely on display and it looks as if the trouser will go on the floor ant second.
How on earth the trouser stays on their bums, i have no idea.
It makes me shudder. So weird and uncomfortable to see.

DunnoWhy · 24/02/2018 23:16

I meant to say young nen not going men.

squarecorners · 24/02/2018 23:16

Crop tops. Literally flattering on nobody except extremely toned 19 year olds. I'm not talking about gym tops that are practical, I'm talking about perfectly reasonable tops that have 6 inches missing from the bottom for no good reason. They look sad and desperate, and I also worry that the people wearing them are going to catch a cold from the draught.

DunnoWhy · 24/02/2018 23:17

young men not young nen! grrr!

YassQueen · 24/02/2018 23:24

If trainers/sneakers are only for excersize what the heck else are you supposed to wear the rest of the time?

MummySparkle · 24/02/2018 23:31

I think white 3/4 length leggings under a summer dress could be acceptable. Not that I have any.

I REALLY want a dungaree dress. Unfortunately I am large of nork and they just look ridiculous!

I do however have a pinafore-style wrap-around apron at work (art teacher) and that's pretty cool. I do get funny looks if I forget and wear it to Waitrose though It's handmade so purposefully sits above my norks

pinkpeter · 24/02/2018 23:33

I saw a man in my office being interviewed for a job yesterday and he was wearing a white top and navy dungarees.!
