What items of clothing do you think adults shouldn't wear?

This was inspired by the Heart Patch jeans thread, some posters said they looked like Mini Boden kids clothes. I personally really liked them. It got me thinking, which items of clothing do you thiink adults really can't get away with? For example, I know some people say pinafores and Dungarees look stupid on adults.

Frills

bleughhh · 25/02/2018 10:58

Oh well - I wear denim dungarees (in the summer), trainers outside the gym, slightly cropped trousers (just above ankle) for work, a velvet jumpsuit for black tie things sometimes and frills/ruffles on tops sometimes... guess I am a 42 year old toddler Wink

Don't ever wear leggings if any sort though (other than running ones to exercise in)...

GhettoFabulous · 25/02/2018 12:10

Those shorts that men wear with all the pockets, which make them look like overgrown toddlers. I tried to get my OH into tailored shorts but he was appalled. Even worse, he wears then with a pair of brown hiking- type trainer that I call The Turds. And black socks.

Summer seems to bring out the worst in some people, male and female.

Males over the age of 2 in 3/4 length trousers an absolute no no other than that wear what you want ... bring on the white leggings

specialsubject · 25/02/2018 13:03

All bras are uncomfortable, especially now that ones without lace are outlawed.

ginghamstarfish · 25/02/2018 14:45

I love my slim fleece gilets! Find jackets too hot but a waistcoat just gives enough warmth to the core in winter. Re 3/4 trousers, it's really the only option if you haven't got the legs for shorts in summer. I think most women CAN wear them and look ok, but key is the length. I am fairly short and have always altered hems (and sometimes width, tapering etc) to suit me.It's amazing the difference a few inches makes to your overall look.

squarecorners · 25/02/2018 14:48

My North face gilet is probably one of the most expensive things I've ever bought but I have cost per wear down to about 10p a time - I love it!

goose1964 · 25/02/2018 15:30

Onesies,

3luckystars · 25/02/2018 15:31

Bumbags.

goose1964 · 25/02/2018 15:39

I wear leggings as trousers.Im not slim, but fairly tall, and they look better with tunics(all over bum length).

TSSDNCOP · 25/02/2018 15:40

Wear what you like, but wear it with confidence.

Don't wear heels that are too high and totter.
Don't wear skirts too short and keep pulling them down.
Don't wear strapless and keep pulling it up.

Elend · 25/02/2018 15:52

I love my new look 915 playsuit. But I'm barely 5'0", look about 15, and my arse is fully covered at all times.

Belindabauer · 25/02/2018 16:20

I like the pinafores especially plain ones.
Was thinking of buying one to wear with a long sleeved top.

ginghamstarfish · 25/02/2018 16:25

Ooh yes, agree with pp about men in baggy 3/4 pants looking like giant toddlers. Knee-length or above would look much better.

Dancinggoat · 25/02/2018 16:55

If you don't like it don't wear it.
But I don't care what anyone else wears as long as it isn't deliberately offensive.

Spartacunt · 25/02/2018 17:06

Oh dear I'm wearing a pinafore dress. And have worn white leggings under a summer dress.

However I will never, ever wear clogs. They make me think of cults.

rainbowfudgee · 25/02/2018 17:16

Last night in my dream I was earing dungarees. And they looked good. Must be because I posted here Grin

MeadowHay · 25/02/2018 20:01

I wear loads of things mentioned on this thread. Pop socks, tights & socks with sandals, wooden wedge heels, trainers & sportswear outside of the gym, crop tops, white leggings (again cropped ones under a dress in summer)...Grin Some people probably think I look ridiculous but I generally don't care.

MeadowHay · 25/02/2018 20:02

Actually I agree with TSS though. It's a bit painful watching people constantly fiddling with what they're wearing, clearly uncomfortable in it. I wonder why wear something you constantly have to be 'fixing'??

PunkrockerGirl59 · 25/02/2018 22:25

Those of you who believe that culottes are a good look. For the love of God do you realise what you look like from behind, regardless of size and shape? Hmm

alpineibex · 25/02/2018 22:28

Punkrock

I think I look fine. If other people think I don't, they don't need to look.

alpineibex · 25/02/2018 22:30

And the people I've seen from behind in culottes have looked normal Confused

alpineibex · 25/02/2018 22:31

I mean, what exactly is it that looks so bad from behind?

What items of clothing do you think adults shouldn't wear?
Bostin · 25/02/2018 22:54

Love culottes. They flatter my shape even though I am generous of arse.

Tailfeather · 25/02/2018 22:57

Crocs and jelly shoes.
