Does this dress look ok? I’ve had it for a while...🤨

Right I’ve an event to go to and I don’t really want to buy a new dress for it.

Everything I own bar this dress is really frumpy looking on me😳

My life is skinnies and tops now rushing about with the children, anyhow...

Reasons I’m not sure:
I think I look really pale, I cannot be bothered with putting loads of fake tan on.

I’ll have hair and makeup done but I think it looks very plain.
It has a rose gold zip and my shoes are yellow gold, I’ll definitely not be buying new shoes!
I bought the dress a couple of years back from Ted Baker but I’m worried the cold shoulder look is passé now.

I know my stomach isn’t that big but I think the dress draw attention to it?

Event is on Wednesday, will this do? Opinions please?

Many thanks

Twinkly, I really wouldn't buy anything else. Honestly. I have been there, with the agonising - but when you get there, nobody will even notice what you're wearing, as they will be so worried about how they look themselves. Your dress and shoes are beautiful. Don't spend any more money on your outfit. You will look completely fabulous, and most people would kill for your figure.

Bath thanks!

Don't 'fake tan' but try the Palmers cocoa butter tan - it's fab but still wear gloves applying it. Your dress is gorgeous

WhiffOfBath · 18/02/2018 20:27

Years of expense and experience. Grin You really will look fabulous.

busyboysmum · 18/02/2018 20:31

I agree. You look great and I really would not agonize any further.

eurgh2018 · 18/02/2018 20:31

I was going to suggest those exact nude/blush shoes from next OP!!

I've just bought them and they're really comfy, they have gel like padded insoles

snewsname · 18/02/2018 20:31

I think it looks lovely.

OuchBollocks · 18/02/2018 20:34

Stick with the original dress. Ted baker dresses are nicely cut and flattering, far more so than Dorothy Perkins. I don't like red shoes with navy. Bit air hostess. The blush ones are nice.

Thistlebelle · 18/02/2018 20:35

Your skin tone is gorgeous.

Fake tan is invariably a bad move. Wink

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/02/2018 20:41

I think you look gorgeous!

Def need different shoes and maybe some statement earrings, no necklace as the neckline of the dress stands out enough.

wilts09 · 18/02/2018 20:41

Dress looks great, however I'm going against most pps here regarding fake tan. I use a gradual one a few days before an event and it comes out in a nice subtle little glow- not the full on orange look- and I think that will complete the look! You look great Smile

Voice0fReason · 18/02/2018 21:26

A classic little black dress and it looks fabulous on you.

No fake tan & the shoes are fine.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 18/02/2018 21:31

You look amazing, I'm also extremely pale and fake tanned as a teen but now I fully embrace it and actually really like it. Colours like navy and green really suit me. I don't mind having my legs out in things like summer dresses (in summer obviously) but I too prefer to wear tights for things like an evening do. I wear either black or nude depending on the dress I'm wearing. Would definitely go for dude with that dress and I'd wear gold jewelry, costume or real to go with the shoes

GottadoitGottadoit · 18/02/2018 21:32

The dress looks great. It’s not dated, and you know we’d tell you honestly!

MissBeehiving · 18/02/2018 21:34

No fake tan but sally hansen airbrush legs evens out skin tone on my legs brilliantly.

Branleuse · 19/02/2018 08:50

i bet the red shoes would look great, and would always go with the dress, but i dont think its necessary to get new ones unless you really want to, as the ones you have are fine

lurkingfromhome · 19/02/2018 11:31

You look beautiful. The dress is a classic, it fits you perfectly, you have a lovely figure and your skintone looks perfectly nice as it is.

Blankscreen · 19/02/2018 11:35

It's a good dress and a good fit.

Stick on a bit of fake tan - it's really not that much hassle and I reckon you'll feel fab

LemonShark · 19/02/2018 12:16

The dress is okay, nothing special though!

I'd recommend wearing some kind of control knickers under as it's so form fitting for a bit more confidence and a smoother silhouette, I wear ones from Tesco that are only £5 each and are like black Lycra stretchy boy short style. They work great under tights and make dresses look much nicer instead of the normal lumps bumps you get under tighter dresses.

mollied · 19/02/2018 12:17

The dress is lovely and looks great on.

LemonShark · 19/02/2018 12:18

I don't know if it's more financial or time but if you did want to get another dress new look are on fire right now!

Scrambledheads · 19/02/2018 12:33

Love the dress - agree with the nude shoe though and some sort of jewellery, even a small drop earring so the neckline isn't ruined by a bulky necklace. Wish I had your figure!

EnidButton · 19/02/2018 12:39

Reasons I’m not sure:

Your skin tone and shade is gorgeous. Lots and lots of Hollywood actresses have pale white skin and wear dark coloured dresses to award ceremonies etc. Covering up or hiding a natural skin tone is naff and old fashioned.

I’ll have hair and makeup done but I think it looks very plain. Classic and chic not plain.

It has a rose gold zip and my shoes are yellow gold, I’ll definitely not be buying new shoes! Mixing metallics is fine and much cooler than being matchy matchy.

I bought the dress a couple of years back from Ted Baker but I’m worried the cold shoulder look is passé now Still loads of cold shoulder and Bardot things around. It's not going anywhere yet.

You look good, it's a nice dress. Stand up straighter with more confidence and have a good time. Wine

EnidButton · 19/02/2018 12:42

(And nude shoes are a bit 2010.)

theredjellybean · 19/02/2018 12:51

You look fantastic, slim, elegant, classy.
I loved the red shoes... But then I love red shoes!!!
Don't wear blush shoes... Very safe Kate Middleton...
And pale is lovely.. Pale and interesting...
Think of something else you'd like to spend the money on that you would spend on new dress for just one evening... I did this recently when was feeling a bit mewh about my dresses... I stuck to and old but trusted classic and then bought fab new jeans instead of new dress... Jeans getting a lot of wear instead of a new dress which would have been worn once
