Help me with my hairstyle please!

As the title suggests, I really need help picking a hairstyle. My hair has been in this bob for years and years. I always ask my hairdresser for a bob like Pandora Sykes or the fashionable shorter hair you see around these days. It never turns out how I want, and it is wonky! Not what I want after I've spent however much on a haircut!

I've attached a photo, so I wanted your advice. What hairstyle do you think might suit me? Are there any ways to make my shorter hair look good, or should I try something totally different? If so, what?

I'd say grow it out a bit and go for a 'lob' - with it longer at the front and shorter at the back (angled - not two haircuts in one!). Also maybe try big velcro rollers to add some big curls/waves and body (best big velcro curlers are Primark btw - I spent years buying really expensive ones from hairdresser suppliers and then read about these and they are great!).

If you google Fearne Cotton hair then recent-ish pictures of her long bobbed hair is what I'm trying to describe badly!

How about something like this

My hair texture seems so different on each side of the parting. One side doesn't behave at all and has a mind of its own, whereas the left side will behave and be straight. I love Fearne Cotton's hair, I'll try and tame my hair to do the same 😂 I always ask my hairdresser for ideas, but she never gives any ideas. She just states a middle parting would not suit and stick with my current style. I need to do something though as it looks awful and I just notice it's wonky-mess in every photo I see 🙄

I wanted my hair to look like Pandora Sykes it it looks totally different. I do like this style of bob that Fearne Cotton has...although I was told longer hair didn't suit me..well nor does short hair! 😂

I just downloaded an app that might be useful to you.
It’s L’Oréal style my hair.you take a photo of your face and you can pick loads of different hairstyles and colours to see what they would look like on you.
You can also send the photo of the style you want to your local salon.

GlubGlubGlub · 18/02/2018 13:38

Honestly I would find a new hairdresser. You have lovely hair as it is a beautiful colour but it just hasn’t been cut well. The pictures you have look great.

Ffsnothingworks · 18/02/2018 14:14

Grow it to the Fearne Cotton length, if you hate it, you can always have it cut. Having a few highlights will brighten it too.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 18/02/2018 14:23

Fearne's bob is great, let your hair grow, I bet it'll suit you !

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 15:20

The thing is my hairdresser has won national awards and is part of the best salon in my region? It seems no one can cut my hair well, I'll try and find someone else in my area though as I'm getting bored of the wonky bob and no style suggestions despite asking. Thank you for the tips, I'll grow it out 😊

It's wonky because your parting is in the wrong place. You've got it too far over to the right (your left?) I think. Try moving your parting.

I think your hair might be a bit too thick for such a blunt cut. Maybe something that has dramatic layers might be better?

WipsGlitter · 18/02/2018 15:34

Is that a hair grip on one side?

I think you need to grow it a bit and then get some layers put in so the kinky bits won't matter so much - get a bit of movement into it.

Is it coloured at all?

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 15:36

Middle parting really doesn't suit me, this parting is the way my hair naturally parts, maybe I'll try parting it a different way? It's wonkiness increases due to the difference in hair texture...however I even tried straightening it (the photo isn't straightened as you can see 😂) and it's still quite wonky

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 15:39

Yes I do have a hair grip in it...however, believe me it's still wonky without (less so though). I had highlights at Xmas for the first time, fairly subtle though. I've had layers before and they made my hair go crazy...I haven't got any photos on my phone, but it put me off layers forever. I thought layers would cure all my hair problems, but no! Maybe I will try them again and see if it is different this time. The layers were put in by my previous hairdresser, but I'll ask my current one.

You need to grow you hair longer it’s a bit triangle shaped! You need some layers to take the weight out of the bottom, can’t believe that cut is from an award winning hairdresser, sorry OP but they should correct that foc!

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 15:52

Don't worry BettyBoo, I agree! I hate my hair and how it looks...Surely she can see it's bloody wonky!?
Okay I'll ask about layers...just worried they will make my hair get even worse like the last time I had them about 4 years ago 😬

OP posts:
spugzbunny · 18/02/2018 15:54

What I mean by 'wrong place' is that you are parting it in a different place to how your hairdresser has cut it.

When you get it cut, does it look wonky as you leave the chair but you don't ask her to correct it? Or does it look straight but then you wash it, style it at home and it looks wonky? I'd bet it's the latter and your hairdresser isn't parting it as far over.

My hairdresser asks me to put my own parting in when I get it cut. Maybe correct where she is parting it before she cuts and then it won't be wonky when you style it yourself.

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 15:59

No, she actually gets it in the right place and asks me whether it's correct, and it is in the right place...and it's still wonky because I check when I come home from the hairdressers? I might ask for someone who specialises in cutting shorter hair, but my hairdresser has shorter hair herself so I thought she'd be better.

OP posts:
TillyVonMilly · 18/02/2018 16:25

She may have short hair but she won’t cut it herself. The last time I had highlights the girl had lovely coloured hair but she turned mine marmalade Shock

eurgh2018 · 18/02/2018 16:26

I have a long angled bob like some PPs have suggested, and my hair naturally parts slightly to one side like yours.

I'll try and upload the picture I showed my hairdresser.....

She cuts layers in the very back and uses thinning scissors on the sides to remove the weight/bluntness - my hair looks exactly like this picture (cut and colour Grin)

WipsGlitter · 18/02/2018 16:29

Have you tried a babyliss big hair? I know some people hate them but it's transformed my hair. Gives it a bit of movement and bounce.

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 16:32

Nope I've not heard of babyliss big hair, is it easy to use? I'm usually terrible at stuff like that but I'll give anything a go

Finally found a photo of myself with the longer bob from about two years ago. I'm sorry it's such bad quality, but I want your opinion on the style again. This time, my hair is pictured straight after the hairdressers.

Pictureiswonky · 18/02/2018 18:51

This last picture from 2 years ago shows different lengths on both sides. Was that on purpose? If I were you I would let it grow another 10 cm and I would put softer layers at the front. Soft but not short.

It sounds like you are not keen on putting hours into styling, so you need to tell the hairdresser that.

I used to have that issue: nice Hair on day one and a total mess until the next visit. I now use a Hairdresser in London who really gets it. When I say I only have 5 minutes to spend on my hair, she knows I mean it. My cut is extremely easy to style

HelpwithHairstyle · 18/02/2018 19:32

One part of my hair is clipped back in that photo....but otherwise, it is wonky again! Same hairstylist, same wonk! I really need to change hairstylists as in some photos it is so wonky. I never asked for it to be two different lengths at all.
