Kate's dress - Stockholm visit

Your thought please.
I think she normally dresses very well but this looks like her suitcase was lost in transit and somebody in the Palace in Stockholm very kindly offered to run her up a dress from curtains ( a la The Sound of Music ) that they were donating to a charity shop.

Fugly dress

SamanthaBrique · 31/01/2018 20:15

That budget; what a waste!

Exactly! All that budget and this is the best her stylist could do? Look at when she was on the cover of Vogue too - they were nice pictures but the outfits were still very Country Casuals. Fine for Horse & Hound or Tatler but it was fucking VOGUE - a prime opportunity to showcase amazing gowns by British designers, and it was wasted!

user1486076969 · 31/01/2018 20:17

Gosh, it really is a curtain a la 'Sound of Music'

Pupsiecola · 31/01/2018 20:23

I remember her dresses on the Canada and US tours when they were first married. There were some absolute stunners. She's worn beautiful Erdem dresses before too.

practisingagain · 31/01/2018 20:29

I think her and wills have had a fight cos he doesn't like the dress. She'd look better in if she was smiling.
Also think her stylist incapable of dressing her when she isn't pencil thin. Pregnant oh let's just throw an expensive bag over the top

WipsGlitter · 31/01/2018 20:41

It's the wrong length and the wrong shoes and hideous tights.

When she tries high fashion like this it wears her and she looks uncomfortable.

Pupsiecola · 31/01/2018 20:42

I can't even believe this is high fashion, but then I'm not really into fashion. But, is there anyone who could pull it off?!

WipsGlitter · 31/01/2018 20:42

Princess Victoria's is equally hideous. Looks like it all came from Primark.

SamanthaBrique · 31/01/2018 21:32

@WipsGlitter Lol, prob quite likely to be H&M!

ProjectGainsborough · 31/01/2018 21:59

I ... think I like it. I mean it’s completely bonkers, but so much more interesting to look at than nude courts.

She’s not the newbie any more. I think it’s says ‘I’m one of the firm and I’ll wear these fucking curtains if I want to.’

snowgal · 31/01/2018 22:07

I don't think the dress is terrible, again the frill at the bottom is too much and there's definitely something wrong about the shoes, but I think the colour suits her and perhaps she doesn't like to show off the bump so therefore it's a bit "frumpy" in the fashion eyes?

NorthernLurker · 31/01/2018 22:18

I like the blue velvet. It's much better. Hated the checked coat, love the white dress. All the bloggers I read hate yesterdays dress. That's very unusual. One described it as the worst ever! I actually prefer it yo the blue and red floral and dust ruffle number she wore to an evening event a few years ago.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/01/2018 22:33

I think the blue velvet is even worse.

It’s not nice to call someone hideous though. Clothes, yes, but not a person.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/01/2018 22:34

Oh sorry Wisp, It was about the clothes. Apologies, I didn’t see the apostrophe.

RosinaAlmaviva · 31/01/2018 22:37

Agree the colour suits her, so it's not as bad as yesterday's effort. I don't care for the dress but I'd dislike it less if it was all the same plain blue of the hem, instead of that shouty pattern.

YY to the white Chanel shift - perfection.

YY to Mary of Denmark also. She does some of the same things Kate has been criticised for - nude courts, sheer tights, pastel coat-dresses with pillbox hats - but she mixes it up more, and when she does take a risk it seems to pay off better.

Boatsonthewater · 31/01/2018 22:38

Absolutely awful.

megletthesecond · 31/01/2018 22:44

I don't dislike the blue velvet dress. It doesn't quite work but it's good to see her not play it safe all the time. Shoes didn't work though.

Charismam · 31/01/2018 23:02

I agree meglet, and I hope she takes more 'risks' even though her taste is quickly trashed. People criticise her for walking such a safe line but it's easy to see why she does that. One pattern, in a 70s cut and her taste is roasted.

EmpireVille · 31/01/2018 23:03

I think it's the worst thing I've ever seen anyone wear.

octonaught · 01/02/2018 04:43

I am way over invested in this thread Have looked at some more photos of the Blue Erdem dress. The way it catches the light makes it much more unflattering than it is. I.e., it does not have a contrasting navy neckline, belt & frill, they are all that mid blue, and was co-ordinating with William's blue tie & suit.

Given that Kate is actually a good photographer, if she is to wear satin or velvet again; she should be photographed in it at night, with a flas, before she commits to buying.

the red / white houndstooth check coat was a bit nuts, but it did its job, as she could be seen from afar during her walkabout

DarthArts · 01/02/2018 08:07

I know I'm in a minority, but I liked the first dress.

The blue one however I thought was very unflattering.

I do think it's nice to see her being a bit more experimental though.

eloisesparkle · 01/02/2018 19:28

She looks lovely today in the blue coat with alpaca hat.

Kate's evening dress in Norway
So much better. Even if it is a bit 1970's Princess Margaret

NorthernLurker · 01/02/2018 19:51

She looks really nice in the Alexander McQueen and another nice coat today. I guess her suitcase caught her up!

NinaNoSleep · 01/02/2018 20:13

Has there been a change of 'style' since MM came on the scene...as if Kate the stylist is trying too hard to be a little more edgy....and failing miserably
