Recommend me an indestructible cross body bag...

Any ideas on the most durable crossbody bag that I can buy and forget about? I'd like it to last me at least 10 years of daily use or more before looking wrecked.....Big enough to fit wallet, keys, phone, paperback and a few assorted bits and bobs.
Am hoping this isn't a pipe dream! Thanks

Does it need to be leather? Are there any styles you like?

Multicolouredfish · 15/01/2018 22:09

Open minded on material if it lasts, but something that won't look too out of place in a smart/casual office. Non-fussy style without tassels or too much metallic bling etc please, but having said that I'm actually happy to be persuaded on any style Smile Thank you!

Try Saccoo

Elmosmum · 15/01/2018 22:18

They're expensive but they last a lifetime (if you're reasonably careful) - the mulberry Anthony messengers bag - price per wear would be good over a long period of time. I've had mine about 4 years with daily use and it's in great condition

bingohandjob · 16/01/2018 07:29

I've got similar to this but think it was actually a 'man's' one (it's a bag, I don't think it has a gender, if you like it, use it) www.knomobags.com/uk/catalog/product/view/id/2309/s/woodstock-leather-cross-body-bag-black/category/943 for use in work/smarter city breaks (I'm more naturally inclined to a rucksack) and it's fab quality. I picked mine up on eBay for fraction of the price though. The one I've linked to is cheaper in a different colour (which I like but linked to black if you're looking for something perhaps more versatile).

I've just got a crossbody bag from a brand I found on Instagram called Aurora. It's a copy of the Celine trio bag so has three separate zipped pouches, the central one has card slots and a zipped pocket inside and you can unpopper the two side pouches. It's leather and really good quality for the price, very plain and simple. It's big enough to fit nappies and wipes in the pouches so a book would probably fit but probably not the best if you have bulkier things like perfume bottles which would change the shape.

I have a mandarina duck across body bag that I love. I've had it for 20 years and it looks newish. I haven't used it every day but I go through phases of doing so.

nutnerk · 16/01/2018 09:37

The Gucci Soho Disco bag is great! Really roomy

Tipmeupandpourmeout · 16/01/2018 09:50

My Kipling cross body bag has lasted years still looks good.

bigtissue · 16/01/2018 10:12

Radley nylon cross body bags go on forever, with me at least. And they're washable Smile

MuffinMad · 16/01/2018 11:28

I have a Kipling bag. I love it! It's made of a canvas type material and is so roomy.

They come in all different colours and sizes. Lots of zippy pockets for all your bits and bobs. Some with handles but mostly a cross body long strap.
They're very well made and strong.
I've had mine about 18 months now,use it all the time and it still looks as good as new. I believe they wash well too.

(Plus you get a little furry monkey key ring!).

Prices around £40-£50.

Multicolouredfish · 16/01/2018 19:36

Thank you all for your brilliant suggestions. I'm tempted by the nylon options, particularly the Radley as they look so practical being washable. I'd not really realised they existed before!
Saccoo bags all look gorgeous and the Mulberry bag suggested I absolutely love, but would need to think hard at the price.... incentive to look after it though! Right off to see them in a shop somewhere and then I'll decide. Thanks all Smile

Check out Elvis and Kresse

Reporter bag sold out - maybe this is too big?

www.elvisandkresse.com/collections/mens-bags/products/messenger

I've been bashing one if their tote bags around for 5 months and it still looks brand new.

Ethical company, made from recycled materials and these old fire hoses are very tough.

100YearsOfVote · 16/01/2018 21:46

Also it seems to be very sturdily constructed, I expect it to last many years.

Multicolouredfish · 16/01/2018 22:38

100 years... I think you've cracked it. They look as if they would last forever and nice ethical slant too. Their reporter bag looks about the right size....

It really is an incredible material. Get in line for when The reporters are back in.

Ooh they are lovely. Never heard of them. Your fault if I spent all my money now PPs!

Multicolouredfish · 17/01/2018 20:16

I agree Seargent! 50% of profit to charity is a sizeable commitment though, which is great. Plus if it lasts me 10+ years it's better than £50 quid every two years to trash a leather bag.

I have about 6 various Kipling bags in different colours ranging from about 6 years old and all looking good as new. Wash brilliantly.

I also have a couple of gorgeous leather messenger bags costing around £250 each but they feel heavy after using Kipling. I always buy Kipling on eBay never paying more than £15 - £20.

ChishandFips33 · 17/01/2018 20:34

100 which colour tote did you buy...what's the feel like?

I love their back story and am very tempted - thank you for sharing their name Smile

Harryet88 · 17/01/2018 20:50

@ChishandFips33 it seems someone has already written a review of their tote bag on here -->> www.mumsnet.com/reviews/toys-and-gifts/gifts-for-mums/22173-elvis-kresse-tote-bag

ChishandFips33 · 17/01/2018 20:57
