What trends would you like to see die a death in 2018?

For me:

Frills on tops
Big, stupid sleeves

'Dipped hem' tops. I think that's what they're called? Where the back of the top is longer than the front. I don't think they look good on anyone, but especially if you have a curvy bum. I look and feel like I'm wearing a nappy!

I love the makeup that's around now, including contouring and highlighting. It's so inexpensive compared to when I was at teen in the 80s, and it's so easy now to experiment with different looks. Ditto hair products (especially colour).

I really disliked nude shoes, but they've gone already I think.

PrimalLass · 17/01/2018 10:56

I like half of the things mentioned here. It would probably be more useful to have a thread asking what people actually do wear.

Yup! Me too

Skinnies
Biker jackets
Biker boots with girly dresses
Brogues
7/8 trousers
Shellac nails
Hair finished with straighteners.
Leather leggings

I also used to have dyed silver hair a few years ago (with a very expensive hair cut) - I'm by no means a head turner, but women would stop me in the street to compliment my hair, I've never experienced anything like it since. This was before it was so ubiquitous mind you.

I'd love to know what would be acceptable!Grin

Not much by the sound of it. I'll just carry on with my skinnies (some coated/leather look, some short), biker jackets and straight hair.

MorrisZapp · 17/01/2018 12:42

That's easy. The acceptable clothing is from Hush, Cos and Toast. It's wildly expensive and most of it looks like it came from a charity shop if taken out of context, but it passes the test. They stop at size 14, have no varying sizes for height, and have no shops outside major cities.

Enjoy!

HD eyebrows- they look bloody awful
Excessive use of Botox
Skinny jeans
Excessive tanning

MaureenNervosa · 17/01/2018 14:07

Frills on everything.
Cropped boxy tops.
Low armholes. I am short and find this annoying.
The overmadeup look in daytime.
Everyone wearing black, khaki, black, khaki ad nauseum.
T-shirts so thin that you have to wear another top underneath.
Silicones in bloody everything. They break me out in spots.

I would like to see a wider range of jean shapes become acceptable. I like slim bootcuts but never see anyone else wearing them.

RoseWhiteTips · 17/01/2018 17:24

Too many rings worn together - not the stacking sort though I dislike them too - on both hands.

I’m sorry but it has to be said: people who are way too old wearing top to toe clothes from New Look or Zara. Just because you can still fit into the clothes doesn’t mean the clothes are appropriate. It always looks so desperate.

Crepey skin which is heavily tanned. It’s what caused most of the wrinkles in the first place.

Wilburissomepig · 17/01/2018 17:32

Another one for binning cold shoulder tops and frills.

Have to disagree with you @RoseWhiteTips, I think should shop where they feel comfortable.

ItWillAllBeFine · 17/01/2018 18:21

What's with the brogues haters? Brogues are magnificent!
The cold shoulder thing is dreadful. I saw this picture described as the following on Twitter which sums it up.....
"We need a jumper that keeps you warm but also has you ready for unexpected vaccines”

“Don’t worry. We’ve got this ...”

How old is considered too old for New Look or Zara?

Glitterspy · 17/01/2018 18:29

Uggs
Fur gilets
Tattooed eyebrows
Contouring
Denim shorts that reveal the bum cheek
Cold shoulders
Bardot tops

On the middle aged
Matching parkas
The Volvo XC90
Loafers

On children
Uggs
Fur Gilets
Tulle skirts
Gendered toys and clothing

iBiscuit · 17/01/2018 18:35

You're supposed to have graduated to headtotoe Boden at about 30, Mike.

And not visit nightclubs or bars.

Did you not get the memo? Sad

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2018 18:40

No. Shock
I think I probably should be buying from adverts in the sunday paper's colour supplement.

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2018 18:41

off to look at Boden web site.

Ofthread · 17/01/2018 18:47

Please, someone kill the bar of soap meme. Bars of soap give me a spotty back, I accept that some people love bars of soap but please, do shut up about it.

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2018 18:52

Have you tried rinsing it off Ofthread? I love bars of soap me and my back's not spotty.

Dustbunny1900 · 17/01/2018 19:07

Not everyone over 30 (or is it 35? Or 40? When's the old lady cut off) looks good in the same styles or has the same look. I know plenty of older women who are eternal ingenues. I know many men would have you think so, but not every woman over 27 becomes sexless dowdy and mumsy & needs to wear compression socks and sweaters over their turtlenecks. There is no uniform.
Some people DO look ridiculous in certain clothes but it's them as individuals

MadMaryBoddington · 17/01/2018 19:11

Grey.

Oh no, that’s houses.

PinkAvocado · 17/01/2018 19:11

I can would allow all things if Uggs went and if the trend for making yourself look like a smooth skinned puppy or kitten using whatever weird filter it is that does that. I’ve not seen some friends on social media as actual humans for a long time.

Ponshuspirate · 17/01/2018 19:12

Shaving pubic hair

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 17/01/2018 19:31

Love the unexpected vaccines meme

Natasha95 · 17/01/2018 22:31

Tops with silly slogans on. You think you’ve found a lovely top and bam it’s got I love tacos or something silly written on it

Deecee1012 · 17/01/2018 23:38

From the top of my list which lengthens daily...perhaps an age thing!
The very defined eyebrow.
Orange tans.
Overdrawn lips.
A t-shirt described as a "Tee"
Heavy false eyelashes.
False nails...especially the stiletto style.
