What trends would you like to see die a death in 2018?

For me:

Frills on tops
Big, stupid sleeves

'Dipped hem' tops. I think that's what they're called? Where the back of the top is longer than the front. I don't think they look good on anyone, but especially if you have a curvy bum. I look and feel like I'm wearing a nappy!

Biker boots too

MissWilmottsGhost · 16/01/2018 18:23

Can biker jackets stay in a bit longer please, I've just got mine out the attic.

It would be nice to get a bit of wear out of it before it goes back up there for another 10 years or until I get another motorbike

Crackedbutstillshiny · 16/01/2018 18:26

You’ll have to prise my midi skirts and florals from my cold, dead hands

Leggings. They never look good on any one.
Stupid sleeves or missing sections of sleeves.
Rucksacks - why on earth did they come back? They were awful at school!

mimibunz · 16/01/2018 18:27

Black tights with brown shoes.

45DegreestoReality · 16/01/2018 18:40

To the people saying they want low rise trousers to go out:
Where are you seeing these? I love low rise trousers- they suit my frame and I can't find them anywhere! Please tell me!

For me, I'd love to room 101 poses. Pigeon toed, even worse feet crossed and one shoulder dropped. I barely see any Pinterest fashion posts without one of those two poses. it just looks daft to me!

Whitney168 · 16/01/2018 18:41

Another vote for the ridiculous eyebrows. How is it that so many people have them, when everyone seems to hate them?

Would also like to see young girls not feeling the need to plaster themselves in make-up, what a burden for life. Sad

Poker straight hair with a central parting and no fringe is my other pet hate. So dull, yet ubiquitous.

45DegreestoReality · 16/01/2018 18:44

Ooo could we have a "trends you would like to see come back" thread? Would that be allowed? I'm thinking of loads after reading this one.

Niminy · 16/01/2018 18:53

Oh yes! long straight hair with a centre parting and no fringe! Sooooo dull. Actually I personally think most long hair is boring but that's a trend that'll never die.

KenForPM · 16/01/2018 19:18

Oh my god... whoever mentioned man buns... YES!! They look fucking STUPID. Especially when they’re made of a small strip of hair on the top of someone’s head and the rest of the head is shaved. WTF is going on there??

Ohyesiam · 16/01/2018 19:30

Drag queen make-up on otherwise pretty young women. No problem with it on drag queens.
Big and silly sleeves.

BuzzKillington · 16/01/2018 19:36

Yes, young women - this is the best you are ever going to look.

Don't ruin this stage with thick makeup, grotesque brows and uglifying buns on top of your heads.

TroubledTribble28 · 16/01/2018 19:37

Ripped jeans. Angry
Biker jackets on sworn-in bus pass holders (Not a slur on bus pass holders, I am one)

schnubbins · 16/01/2018 19:38

Boxy shapes, high necked everything and everything being cut too short.

bananafish81 · 16/01/2018 19:45

Yep you will tear my skinny jeans from my cold dead hands legs

Boot cut jeans were fine in the 90s / early 00s or if you're Liz Hurley or Victoria Beckham and don't mind tottering around in heels, or hems trailing along the ground

I wear my skinnies with brogues too! And sometimes a biker jacket! The horror!!

Never a cold shoulder top though. I'm not an animal Wink

Delatron · 16/01/2018 20:20

Before skinnies what did we wear with boots? I get so used to tucking my skinnies in my boots, I guess we all wore boot cut over boots, I can't see that look ever coming back.

I remember a few times over the last 5 years, fashion magazine have tried to claim skinnies were 'out' of fashion. I'd panic then realise everyone was still wearing them and they'd failed in their mission. I doubt they'll ever disappear now.

Elementally · 16/01/2018 20:26

Any handbag that is carried in the crook of the arm. I see 14 year olds walking to school swinging a George at Asda version. The look is over.

herecomesthsun · 16/01/2018 20:28

Cold shoulder tops
Cropped tops
Athleisure wear
Embroidered clothing
Slogan tops
Man made fibres

You guys have been looking at the M and S 70% off sale haven't you?

goose1964 · 16/01/2018 20:29

Choker tops, they look like you're trying to hide something

This has sadly been a ‘fashion’ forever...but when will the average WOMENS high street clothes shop STOP selling nightwear that has awful, cutesy teddy bear/animal/star/rainbow/fucking unicorn prints on it? I just want some nice PJs in neutral colours for a decent price. Please!

Unicorn81 · 16/01/2018 20:39

Jeans with knees out
Anything velvet
Bigmscary eyebrows

woodhill · 16/01/2018 21:59

There were cargoes

SapphireSeptember · 17/01/2018 07:35

It'll be a cold day in hell when I give up my chokers, rose gold, flared sleeves and highlighter! I don't mind high necklines either, in moderation.
However, I wish contouring would go away, and huge eyebrows. My eyebrows are naturally bushy, but I don't feel the need to colour them in (although I hope we don't go back to teeny tiny little eyebrows either, they were just as ridiculous.)
Clothes that have ready made rips and holes in them, why? I remember when people used to do that themselves!
The cold shoulder trend can also do one.
I want bootcut jeans back, but not ones that flap around my ankles. Skinny jeans were a no go zone for me.
I wish the Christmas jumper craze would die. Everyone gets silly from about the start of November and if you refuse to join in (like me) you get moaned at. I'm not buying something that seasonal!

Whitney168 · 17/01/2018 08:05

Yes, young women - this is the best you are ever going to look.

Young women too, yes, but I chose the word girls deliberately, not just to piss off MN. I am seeing teenagers on their way to school caked in it too, looks horrible (even though they have all learnt to do it 'well', just too much of it).

hipsrose · 17/01/2018 08:09

Whitney168 And the scary thing is, a lot of the tutorials they learn from are described as being an 'everyday make up look', yet the amount of product used is more than I've ever used for a night out!! Confused
