What trends would you like to see die a death in 2018?

For me:

Frills on tops
Big, stupid sleeves

'Dipped hem' tops. I think that's what they're called? Where the back of the top is longer than the front. I don't think they look good on anyone, but especially if you have a curvy bum. I look and feel like I'm wearing a nappy!

Slug eyebrows

Ofthread · 15/01/2018 01:13

What the hell is wrong with high waisted mom jeans? Staple!

This is based on what I see in the street, rather than insta -
North face parka
People still wearing Uggs after, like, 10 years of them not being acceptable
Ditto ballerina flats and jeans tucked into knee boots
Most handbags are ugly
Too tight skinny jeans with big trainers, yes you look like you have flippers
Work trousers, why not just buy some nice trousers that are not black, shapeless and polyester?
Beards - we are so over this, please stop.

Jozxyqk · 15/01/2018 01:43

Instagram-ready contoured makeup, complete with false eyelashes etc. Also the continuing need to keep up with extensions, highlights, manicures etc.

And yes, polyester. It's really hard to find clothes in natural fabric any more, without spending a fortune. I'd never realised why most clothes shops smell hideous these days - duh!

FiveShelties · 15/01/2018 01:58

Leggings
Skinny jeans
Weird eyebrows

KenForPM · 15/01/2018 02:39

Unfortunately it seems like a lot of MNers LOVE beards. Not all, obviously, but quite a few. I don’t like them. Who the hell wants a mouthful of hair in their mouth when they kiss? Stubble’s just as bad, it’s all spiky.
Cold shoulder tops. Don’t get them. Cold shoulder jumpers are worse! Jumpers are supposed to keep you WARM, why would you want great holes cut out of them??
Contouring only works under certain lighting conditions. Out and about in everyday sunlight just makes it look like you’ve got a grubby face.
Enormo-Brows. Just no. They look ridiculous. Eyebrows are pretty key in facial expressions and if you’ve got stupid thick fake ones it’s hard for people to gauge your reactions properly.
Overdone fake tan. Done nicely, it looks good. Too much, and you just look like Donald Trump. Baaaaaaaad look.

AlmondPearls · 15/01/2018 02:55

I'm guilty of loving most of these - skinny jeans, cold shoulders, frilly tops...

I don't like those big old school looking puffa-jackets, popper trackies, bucket hats... Especially altogether!

fruityb · 15/01/2018 09:31

I love skinny jeans!

BitOutOfPractice · 15/01/2018 09:34

Over embellishment. I’d like to be able to buy a top that doesn’t have bows, frills, ruching, flappy sleeves or cut outs

IpanemaChica · 15/01/2018 09:46

I’d like to see an end to the slug eyebrows but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Please can we have v-necks back, much more flattering on me.

I love my skinny jeans, not giving them up!

veryveryquietly · 15/01/2018 09:48

Fucking millenial pink and fucking rose gold. Enough already.

rightknockered · 15/01/2018 09:49

I love my uggs

StripySocksAndDocs · 15/01/2018 09:55

What on earth are coffin nails? Google isn't really explaining well.

I'd like frills to go (and never return).

EarlGreyT · 15/01/2018 10:12

Cold shoulder tops
Stupid flared/frilly sleeves
Clothes with bits of material cut out
Pouting/duck lips in photos
Synthetic fabrics

stripysocks I think coffin nails are nails which are flat/square on the top and slightly rounded on the corners- I.e. coffin shaped nails.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 15/01/2018 10:22

I also hate nails that are filed into a sharp point - they look like claws!

KatharinaRosalie · 15/01/2018 10:23

Skinny and/or cropped jeans and trousers. Especially if they are both skinny and cropped. So you actively look for a style that will make your legs look short and stumpy? Sure fine, it's a free country. But I would love to go into a shop where I didn't need to chase that single elusive flattering straight pair amongst 1001 versions of skinny/leggings/jeggings/treggings

victoire1208 · 15/01/2018 10:29

Boot cut jeans will never return surely!? They look awful on anyone bigger than a 10.

Cold shoulders are bit trashy and unless lovely angular toned shoulders very unflattering.
Those Cinderella black chokers are laughable.
The curtain tie back fabric tassle earrings make me snigger.

victoire1208 · 15/01/2018 10:31

Rose gold and Converse are past it too.

StripySocksAndDocs · 15/01/2018 10:39

Thanks!! You'd want to be a serious nail devotee for coffin nails!!!

HildaZelda · 15/01/2018 10:42

Agree that the stupid eyebrows definitely need to go but nobody will ever prise my skinny jeans from my hands (or legs as the case may be)

Greenteandchives · 15/01/2018 10:49

Ripped jeans.
Any sleeve that has frills, bows, weird shapes etc.

eastlondoner · 15/01/2018 11:11

HD brows

LoniceraJaponica · 15/01/2018 11:22

Frills, ruffles and flounce
Bell end sleeves
Three quarter length sleeves – how to you put a cardigan or jacket on over these sleeves without them riding up?
Boat necks – my shoulders are too bony
Very low necked tops – I have no boobs Sad
The fake cloned Barbie doll look you see everywhere
Asymmetric designs
Low rise trousers and jeans – I am forever having to hoick them up

It seems that the most disliked trends on here are HD eyebrows and frilly clothes.
Basically I would like to see fewer over elaborate, over embellished clothes and a return to good quality basics. On that note M & S now have some good quality basic cotton T-shirts in stock. You don’t need to wear several of them for people not to see your underwear.

“So many tops now boxy and crew neck, perennially unflattering!!!”

No they aren’t to everyone. I like crew necks as I have no boobs. Not everyone is curvy.

Floisme · 15/01/2018 11:35

I don't particularly want to see any trend die - although they all do eventually. I just want to have a choice. I'm delighted to see skinnies knocked off their perch at last but I'd be quite happy for shops to carry on stocking them for people who do like them, just as long as they sold other styles too. What makes me cross is when a trend gets such a hold that you can't get away from it.

Leather jackets are another case in point. We don't all want bikers but try looking for anything else at the moment and you'll be wasting your time.

LoniceraJaponica · 15/01/2018 12:12

It is the current lack of choice Floisme. The last few jumpers DD and I have bought have been men's jumpers because they are plain and have sleeves long enough for our long arms
