Went in yesterday and spent £46 exactly.
For that I got 5 smock tops and 2 pairs of trousers.

And whats even better is that I'll have probably bought my whole maternity wardrobe now.

I was so impressed. Everybody should shop there.
Never mind that Kate Moss overpriced tramp clothing range at Topshop.

MuminBrum, virtually every high street store has clothes made in vile factories. You just dont hear about it.

Fact is some people cannot afford to buy elsewhere and as for that fairtrade and lentil weavery clothes range that has come out, I certainly cannot afford to buy that.

I have actually called all our charity shops in our town (we have loads) and none of them have any maternity wear in.

Might go back for the white Fio.

My SIL went in yesterday and said all the shelves were empty!

Nbg, I'm perfectly well aware that Prishite aren't the only sweatshop users in town. But we can only act on the information we've got, and now that they've been outed, I think that puts them beyond the pale.
I think what really pisses me off about Primark is this illusion some people have that they are getting something stylish and classy for a laughably low price. The items in question may look wonderful in a fashion spread, put on a slim and exquisitely pretty teenager by a clever stylist, and photographed by a professional, but on most of us, and in the cold light of day, they look exactly what they are - badly cut out of shoddy fabrics, and poorly put together.

I thought I looked quite good lol

I know the factory thing is awful but what are people supposed to do?

Its bizarre to hear this fascination with Primark - we've had it here for ever (Ireland) and its just another one of the many cheap places to shop. What is truly funny though is the way some people pronounce it - it actually sounds like - Pree-mark. If anyone is ever in the south of Ireland check it out - called Penneys, and believe me they keep the better stock for there.

PeachesMcLean · 29/04/2007 22:20

I call it Preemark and I'm not in Ireland.

Is it Preemark, Pry-mark or Prim-ark?

For what it's worth I buy lots from there, especially for DS. I'm more picky for myself but golden rules - a) don't buy the really nylon / acrylic stuff and b) try it on first. £5 is not a bargain if it looks like shite.

multitasker · 30/04/2007 10:21

Peachs - its Preemark. LOL at Mark whatshisname on Lorraine Kelly and his - Prymark. And you're right to try it on, lots are badly cut and do look like shite.

I think Primark is the worst shop ever ever in the history of shops ever.

At my DCs school jumble sale recently I bought 10 items of really lovely clothing for 30p each. Would have been 10p if I'd waited til the final hour.

I buy most of my kids clothes second hand. Its the re-use aspect that most appeals to me. Less resources used up, less child slave labour involved. When my kids have outgrown them I give them to charity.

I am not a lentil weaver.

I have no spare money. No money at all for clothes. I'd rather wear the same stuff for 3 years then pay peanuts for something that some poor child has been enslaved to make.

TooTicky · 30/04/2007 22:54

I believe Primark have recently signed up to an ethical something or other. Hang on, I'll try and find it...

TooTicky · 30/04/2007 22:56

Ah, here

SparklyGothKat · 30/04/2007 22:57

Primark is like marmite, you either love it or hate it.

TooTicky · 30/04/2007 23:00

And they are bringing out an organic range.
I did actually notice, when I was on a desperate hunt for a specific item, that a lot of their products are made in Spain.
But the shops vary so much - the one in Bristol is a tip with clothes all over the floor, the one in Taunton looks posh in comparison, and the one in Swindon is in between.
I always buy second hand if I can though.
M&S are moving towards ethicability. Next and GAP are shamefully awful and deserve boycotts all round.

nanninurse · 15/05/2007 17:54

Ilove it, marmite too..

NomDePlume · 15/05/2007 17:57

I can't bear Primark. It is grim, like the seventh circle of hell
