Just that really. How old are you and where do you shop?

OP posts:
duckling84 · 06/01/2018 10:08

33 and at the moment primark. I'm dieting and don't want to spend lots on clothes that will only last me a few months.

ZaraW · 06/01/2018 11:09

Mid 40s I try to buy quality and don't do disposable fashion. I shop at J Crew, Toast, Izzy Lane, Whistles but only natural fabrics, Shopbop and A Peace Treaty for scarves but only in the sale as its expensive.

Bluesheep8 · 06/01/2018 11:41

I'm 44 and shop in Primark, tk maxx and charity shops.

bingohandjob · 06/01/2018 11:46

43 - mainly Uniqlo, Boden, And Other Stories, Hobbs, Weekday, eBay, Bravissimo for bras and Marks, John Lewis for some basics and underwear. Clarks and Cloggs for shoes and boots. I like to try to find independent stores for accessories, jewellery and dresses where I can.

Floisme · 06/01/2018 12:08
  1. I buy as much as I can second hand but only from real shops. I'm lucky to have a fab dress agency plus a couple of vintage stores that still sell the odd 40s-60s piece, along with more current designers (who aren't really vintage but I'm not complaining). Charity shops are erratic but brilliant once in a while. I look for brands I couldn't afford new and bagged Margaret Howell, Vivienne Westwood, Brora, John Smedley and Burberry among others last year.

If I'm buying new, my current favourite is Chrisophe Lemaire for Uniqlo. I'd also buy a lot more Cos if I had a local branch but I can't make sense of their website or sizing. Would also try & Other Stories if they were local but their website doesn't inspire.

I save up for certain brands e.g. Toast, Celtic & Co, Me and Em.

Then there's a whole raft of stores that I keep an eye on, including: H&M (used to be my favourite, whatever happened?) TK Maxx, M&S, Boden, Kin at John Lewis, Pure Collection, People Tree, Baukjen.

A couple of years ago, it would have been a different list but I think you need to keep moving. Nothing stays good forever.

I've started shopping at uniqlo, is it not considered fast fashion?

I think all the high street does fast fashion to some degree but I wouldn't put Uniqlo in the same league as say, Primark or Zara. I think of them as a slightly more modern, less ramshackle version of M&S - basics that look reasonably current.
Personally I'm still quite partial to the odd bit of fast fashion - it's the ethics of it that trouble me.

  1. The vast majority of my wardrobe is Ted Baker, with bits from Mint Velvet, Reiss and primark.

Underwear from M&S and skinny jeans from Next.

WillowWept · 06/01/2018 14:29

My shopping habits are strongly influenced by ability to purchase online.

PNGirl · 06/01/2018 14:33
  1. ASOS own brand, Topshop for jeans only, Uniqlo, GAP, AllSaints, DuoBoots for boots and ankle boots, and the odd TK Maxx or Bicester/McArthur Glen splurge. My current coats are Burberry, Ralph Lauren and Diesel.
OakIsBetterTho · 06/01/2018 14:38
  1. Mainly joules, jack wills, fatface, rydale, Barbour and sometimes boden, next for jeans, new look for basics, H&M for workwear and boux avenue for underwear! I do like a nice independent tho (normally found via instagram!) like mackenzie & george for belts, evemy & evemy for accessories and Cornish bluebelle for jewellery.
silkpyjamasallday · 06/01/2018 14:39

I'm 23 and I mostly shop online, and mostly buy second hand. I have got so many amazing bargains and have patiently waited years for certain items to become available but it is worth it. I only buy new if something is absolutely perfect and I can't find a approximation of whatever it is on eBay or depop or Vestiaire collective. Most of the stuff I buy I could never afford nor justify the price, but when it's second hand and costs less than half the original price I can.

Majority of my clothes are from Next.
I also buy from Debenhams (Red Herring and Henry Holland), Gap and Outfit (Mela, Wallis, Topshop and Dorothy Perkins).
I have quite a few staples from Ralph Lauren too.

As I've got older I understand what sizes fit me and tend to stick to the same old faithful stores.

Chrisinthemorning · 06/01/2018 14:46

And cheap jeans from Sainsbury's but I'm trying to break that habit.

However, apart from Sainsbury's, I couldn't afford any of the above at full price. I buy in sales/ebay/TKMaxx only. Never pay full price for anything.
