Doc martens

I will confess up front, I am completely the wrong side of 50 to even contemplate a pair of docs but I want them so bad. Went in to town today and tried some on so know my size. Gave up choosing though because it was just too busy and crowded and shopping hell.

The question I have though from those of you in the know is do I want 1460’s or pascals? I know the 1460 is chunkier and needs more breaking in but they seem so much more authentic somehow, and the pascal like a girly cop out.

Please help....or I might have to get two pairs and I can’t justify it!

Get them. Life is too short. Enjoy, they are fabulous

AdalindSchade · 27/12/2017 16:47

A girly cop out?! The pascal is a nicer shape.

Mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 27/12/2017 16:50

Is it though? A nicer shape I mean. I see lots of people in docs and they look fab, but I haven’t yet got to the point of asking them which ones they have.

I want purple ones. Or flowery,.

I am 51 and have a pair of bright red shoes, and my dd got the boots for Christmas.
I say go for it, they aren't any different to any other type of shoe or boot and are really comfy.
I did make the mistake of wearing the out for the first time for a mammoth shopping spree, which I did regret, but once worn in it's like having your slippers on.
If you buy from their main website you know you are getting the real thing too.

I’m 40 and wear my docs every day. I’m on my feet all day for work.

I have these.

If you are size 5.5 or smaller you could wear the youths, we have Delaney with the additional zips, they are lovely.

Mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 27/12/2017 16:57

Love the Delphine.

That doesn’t help of course!

I have an embarrassing amount of pairs. If you don't want to have to break them look for a pair in Softy T leather.

TarquinGyrfalcon · 27/12/2017 16:59

I have Pascals and 1460s and although I didn't expect to I prefer the Pascals

DurhamDurham · 27/12/2017 16:59

I’ve got dark maroon ones in a Matt finish, they go with lots of outfits from jeans to dresses. They’re comfy and will last forever. They actually look better when they’re worn in and a bit old. Go for it! Smile

TarquinGyrfalcon · 27/12/2017 17:00

Or have a look at MandM website - they have DM Softy's on sale from about £50

OneOfTheGrundys · 27/12/2017 17:16

Go Pascal.

Mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 27/12/2017 17:32

hmmm vote seems to edge towards pascal... I am happy breaking in though.

still googling, the choice is huge!

Pascals are nicer. I like the lack of trim on the top.

Luuby86 · 27/12/2017 19:26

I have literally just returned from a shopping trip with my first ever pair of DMs. I was going for the pascal Virginia in the khaki green colour but they didn't have my size. I fell in love with the vegan castel too though so got those instead! Plus they were in the sale (which always helps)

I got my first pair since my school days for Christmas!
After a lot of trying on in the shops I went for black Pascals - I was so tempted by the patent 1460s though.

letdownalittleagain · 27/12/2017 19:34

I’ve had quite a few over the years, the Virginia pascal is my favourite by far! So so soft and comfortable, slimmer and more flattering. I use my 1460 a lot for forest walking and practical stuff, but pascals for style and everyday

Fairylea · 27/12/2017 19:35

I love dms but I swear they’ve changed the shape or leather since I wore them as a teen - I used to wear them all day everyday and they were so comfortable. As an adult (37) even after breaking some in I just can’t wear them. They seem tighter across the top of the foot than I remember and I just feel like they’re so heavy on my feet. I do love the way they look though!

CaptainBrickbeard · 27/12/2017 19:38

I desperately want the metallic pink pascals but can’t justify £110 on a frivolous colour - I feel like I should be sensible and get neutral ones that I could wear with everything...

Fairylea · 27/12/2017 19:43

Just a hint.... m and m direct often have a lot of docs in their sale. Same as Schuh. Sometimes you get a bargain!

Mermaidbutmytailfelloff · 27/12/2017 20:08

Looking at Schuh now, they have purple pascals in the sale.... mandm have a few but not my size except candy pink or sky blue....

I am right with you CaptainBrickbeard...is it a heart job or a head job.

I sold my 1460s. The toe was too round. I have Pascal Virginias in black and Pascal Antique Temperley in charcoal.

CaptainBrickbeard · 27/12/2017 20:57

I love the sky blue ones on m and m!

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2017 21:00

I have purple pascals. They’re fantastic and didn’t take any breaking in at all . I was going to buy some brown pascal II Montelupos but they’re sold out in my size.
