Squirrel, yes (and I think I made banana try some too), they're great for the bum and a bit roomy in the thigh area but they're also quite wide in the waist area so if you want to wear them low you may get away with them but otherwise you might have a bit of extra material at the back. I recently tried on a pair again as it was discounted by 50% and a lovely olive green but the smallest size was really too big for me up top and I'm just under a 24" waist but smaller in the hips than you so it may work out for you.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2017 13:29

Thanks, the only size they have in stock is DK36 which is FR38 so I think too big for me. Will have to wait and see if they come back in

bananafish81 · 24/12/2017 13:58

Echoing the others, an enormous THANK YOU bo, for the fabulous advent, and in general for your immense pearls of wisdom. They are hugely appreciated by us all, and we hope you have a lovely relaxing Xmas break planned

I did indeed try the Malene Birger leather leggings - I thought they were really lush. I much much preferred them to the Joseph ones - I'm struggling to remember what it was about them that made me spring for the HL in the end, I think it was the finish (the HL looked more like a stronger leather finish, I think) but I really did like the BMB very much indeed. Sorry I can't be more use about remembering the cut!

botemp · 24/12/2017 14:14

I think side by side he BMB felt a little lacklustre in comparison, banana. They're perfectly nice if you never see the HL. Are you an 8, Grumpy? Coggles has a pair of HL leggings in black in the sale for a really low price (half off) only in an 8 or a 12, not sure how they'd fare on a pear but they're a bit of a bargain.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2017 14:20

Thanks - had a look but I'm more like a 6. Also I find US sizing always too large - so I wear a US0 or US2. I don't think a US4 equates to a US8 in my experience. What size are the HL on the label?

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2017 14:22

I might try the 8 just to see, can always return. Also pregnant so will get fatter soon but in denial

botemp · 24/12/2017 14:28

HL comes up bigger but they're a touch more slim cut than most so that may mean they're TTS for a pear. It's a tough one to guestimate in that sense.

Littlechocola · 24/12/2017 14:35

Bo, I think that I may love you. You’ve made the world a more stylish place.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2017 14:35

My calves are usually the issue, rather than bum/thighs, weirdly.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2017 14:37

Ooh, loving this site! Thanks bo!

bo and auld thanks so much for the suggestions. Yes, it's khaki (good colour for me) and you're right, auld, I'm in a trouser phase at the moment though it would be silly to be prescriptive. I would say it looks worst with jeans and best with my newly acquired Uniqlo / lemaire crazy wideleg cords. I don't have any ultra long skirts but I do have a couple in the cupboard that are straight and ending just above the ankle bone, one in denim and one in a mix of men's suiting fabric so will try.

And you're right bo that I may need to find toning colours and use fabrics for contrast - as per your advent calendar! Great idea about layering over jackets/coats too - I had thought of putting it under a tailored jacket with the big collar over the top but not the other way round! I think I'd expected it to instantly add a bit of cool to any old plain outfit but I need to be a bit more imaginative and push the layering further. Thank you Cake

If I do give up on it bo, I'll let you know - wouldn't want any money. It's a size 8 - I'm normally 8-10 but veering more to a 10 these days and it's a good fit. However with all your ideas, I think you may have just talked yourself out of it!

Bloomed · 24/12/2017 15:38

Thanks for those suggestions Bo.
I think the gilet will look great on you Flo.
Hope everyone has good Christmas day plans!

MyNewHobbyIsGin · 24/12/2017 16:35

Merry Christmas to all, and yes especially to Bo for all the posting, illustration and inspiration.

I'm on the Other Stories sale, the flat pointy boots arrived yesterday, haven't tried them yet. To be honest I only ordered them Thursday so I really wasn't expecting them this side of Christmas. Happy days!

bananafish81 · 24/12/2017 16:51

The HL came up very small - I ordered a US2 and a 4, because I'm a 6-8 UK. The 2 gaped a bit at the waist, so exchanged the 4 for a 0 to see, and ended up keeping the 0. Which is utterly ridiculous as no way am I a size 0. I was concerned about busting the seams as I have one calf that's twice the size of the other (when I was used as a teaching case for a course run by my physio, a room full of physios on the course were all aghast astonished open mouthed at my SAS calf) and I have to say both the BMB and HL were fine on that front. I was very very taken by the BMB so would definitely give them a whirl

A friend who is a leather leggings devotee ended up splurging on a pair of maternity ones from Isabella Oliver and said they were perfect, just to add to the confusion squirrel Grin (congratulations!!)

Obvs my boots and naval tops would both be in the &otherstories sale at knock down prices Angry However I've got so much wear out of them since I bought em, the difference must have paid for itself several times over

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/12/2017 17:14

Ooh thanks @bananafish81
Currently bidding on a HL pair US2 on eBay. Will also check out Isabella Oliver 👍🏼

Tanaqui · 24/12/2017 21:26

Yes, thank you so much Bo, and Toss for starting it all! Happy Christmas everyone.

Canters15 · 24/12/2017 21:43

Merry Christmas ladies!
I was unaware of the existence of boutique 1 and am now in love with the MG lady in burgundy suede. Wah.
Also, that fedora pic is wonderful bo. They have some in the all saints sale, I think I will get one!

Littlehenrylee · 25/12/2017 00:26

Just popping by to say happy Christmas ladies and thank you for the wonderful inspiration. x

LazyDailyMailJournos · 25/12/2017 07:40

Joyeaux Noel!

botemp · 25/12/2017 14:43

Happy Christmas everyone!

AuldA (I think you were the one holding out for the Comptoir des C peacoat in emerald) before I forget again, their European private sale starts tomorrow but you need a code for it.

AuldAlliance · 25/12/2017 15:10

Ooh, wow, thanks Botemp!
I'll have a mooch on there tomorrow. I owe you one.

And I'll not bother you with my tiles and painting issues, I can quite see why you might avoid such things in your free time.

I went on a bike ride around lunchtime today and as I cycled back through town lots of people were clearly en route to Christmas meals/family get togethers.
It was fun looking at people's outfits, as I pedalled by in my tracksuit bottoms, accessorised with very cold, red ears...

Bloomed · 25/12/2017 15:35

The weather here is gloomy so I am not going anywhere. The three things I'd promised myself in the sales sold out immediately so I've saved some money there Xmas Wink

schmalex · 25/12/2017 15:52

Joyeux Noel one and all. For those who were looking at Uniqlo cashmere, quite a few pieces have just gone into the sale at £10 off.

botemp · 25/12/2017 16:25

It's no bother AuldA. I do enjoy a bit of tile porn, and make no issue of it if anyone asks, I just meant I don't really go and seek it out on here and I'd only advise what direction to look at though I doubt you were expecting a full colour proposal.

Gloomy here too, Bloomed. Well pretty much dark now, should probably start on dinner soon. I did manage to snag an APC linen tee this morning in the sales and an extra back up pair of Swedish Stockings (they're made with recycled yarns, they're really lovely actually, the finish is a bit different and since they're made for Swedish winters properly warm) both at 50% off so quite happy with those.

Although I have to say, even as a non-religious person and never raised as such, I find the spend fest of online sales (my inbox looks not dissimilar to Black Friday today) a bit odd on Christmas day itself. Especially the ones that open with 'Didn't get what you were hoping for? Come shop now...' Xmas Hmm

Bloomed · 25/12/2017 16:36

I will start cooking soon too. I'm trying to be very targeted in my sales shopping, things I need (my ankle boots have fallen apart and the cobbler can't patch them up again) and things which will allow me to wear clothes already in my wardrobe. I may have to go and mix with humans in actual stores to see if they are just sold out online.
