Are Mason Pearson hair brushes worth the money?

Just that, really! I have shoulder length, fairly thick hair. Is it worth spending £30+ on a hair brush? Also, my DD(10) has long fine hair which tangles very easily - will it make any difference to her hair?

Yes, yes and yes.
My grandmother’s is 45+ years old and only Just coming to the end of its life (it’s wooden) despite being chewed by one of our long-departed dogs as a puppy (this would be around 40 years ago, she got the handle).
I have a small one that’s 30ish years old (not been looked after particularly well though because I was a child and didn’t appreciate how high-end they are) and a bigger one that I’ve had for about six years.
My hair is fabulously shiny and they are the best for getting a sleek finish when putting hair up.

Mind you, I have very thick, dark hair. Not sure how it would work on fine hair.

What makes them different from my a £4.99 hairbrush from Sainsbury’s? How do they make your hair shiny?

number7, that's what I want to know! I love the idea of having a good quality brush, something that will last me the rest of my life and makes my hair beautiful, but not sure if spending that much money (and TBH, I'd probably buy one of the pricier ones) is worth it.

Yes yes and yes!!! I was just thinking this today actually. I have a nylon one from my childhood which is still going from but recently I invested in a bristle brush as it’s more suited to fine hair. I’ve been endeavouring to improve my hair over the last couple of years and using a mason Pearson has been part of my regime! I keep the nylon one as a spare in my bag and use the bristle for morning and night and blow drying. I’m sure I read that the unique cushion actually helps to condition hair.

I blow dried my hair this morning using my fingers and wondered later why it looked so ratty... then realised I hadn’t put the MP through it...!

Yes! If you have thick hair it’s the only thing that’ll go through your hair. They last for years. And years.
I don’t know what makes them so good but even lookalike brushes just don’t do it.

YES! I have given mine to DD2 who has long hair as my hair is crap now, but I bought it in Bath in 1999 and it's still going strong.

I have two- a large and a handbag size one. They are both mixed bristle MP and are fantastic. I use them on my thick bra length hair and my daughter's waistlength fine hair. Denman, Wetbrushes and Tangle Teezers don't compare. They are fantastic at removing tangles and making our hair shiny and manageable. I bought a handbag sized one first and when I realised how good it was I bought the full size. It is worth signing up to Escentual.com. They regularly have 25% (or maybe 30% ) events. I bought my large one during one of their promotions.

I've flirted with Denman and tangle teezers, but was distinctly unimpressed compared to the MP

On a cost per wear basis over 18 years it's practically free

YES and YES- I have thick wavy hair and it really calms and smooths it. Hundreds of bristles means your hair reeves a good brushing. I've had mine for 12 years.

I had one throughout my childhood - again, chewed by the dog, but it was great. It didn't hurt (apart from when my mum belted my legs with it when I was naughty) and my hair was always shiny. I think my mum still has the brush somewhere.

I once bought a mason pearson brush and I don't know why but it made my hair terribly static: my hair used to stand on end every time I brushed it. Maybe I have the wrong hair. I had to stop using it in the end.

I get that off I do it too fast Who but long slow strokes are the key (for me anyway)

I have very fine hair, and DS has really long thick hair and it's brilliant for both of us. Mixed bristles, no other brush I've ever tried has been anywhere near as good.

AndnoneforGretchen... god yeah I used to get smacked on the legs by my mum with her Mason Pearson too... I think her mother did the same to her. What an heirloom 😂

Thick fine hair with another vote for them. We have a variety of brushes and I see and feel the difference both on my own and my daughter's hair.

I have an MP which must be 20 years old. I flirted with a Tangle Teezer which split my hair terribly. I have returned to my trusty MP and it has such a lovely smoothing effect. Buy.
