The holy grail of Chelsea boots, desperately sought

Hi there,

I REALLY fancy a pair of Chelsea boots, which you'd think would be easy... but no.

Ideally, they would:

  1. Be black leather
  2. Have a slight grip on the sole to avoid me falling on my arse - BUT not have a bulky heavy sole (this is the hardest bit)
  3. Be quite neat and sleek, but not so narrow around the ankle that they make my calves look huge
  4. Have no unnecessary detailing (weird seams, coloured seam stitching, anything like that)
  5. Be really comfy (the ones I tried on in Office you could feel the stitching around the outside of the sole from the inside, and my colleague says hers from Clarks rub on the heel)

I am a size 5.5/39 and have quite narrow feet.

Halp meee!

Thanks.

Try them on. Slip-on boots need to fit properly or t he heel rubs. If you are pregnant, bear in mind that your feet might be bigger than they were before (and after) pregnancy. DM Flora sell well on eBay.

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2017 14:47

Oh, and wear new boots only indoors for a few days so that if they hurt you can take them back.

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2017 14:49

The Penelope chilvers ones are vairy naice and I have tried them on. Off to look at Boden but really want Floras

MikeUniformMike · 11/11/2017 14:51

Joules and Clarks ones great. Boden? yeah but they're not the P.C.s

Cromwell1536 · 12/11/2017 18:17

my LK Bennett Alexia are in their 4th year, and I lurve them. They mould to my feet and ankles and look more elegant each year. But I think I might have to replace them (sob) unless a really good cobbler can do something clever on the toe.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 12/11/2017 18:34

Loving those seasalt ones!

Paddingtonthebear · 12/11/2017 18:42

I’ve been looking at Chelsea boots today. I’ve had a pair of Carvela black brogue Chelsea boots which ive worn to death for the last 3 years and they are starting to leak. They are so comfy, unfortunately this years model are too shiny for my liking and also have a buckle I don’t like.

I’ve bought some Joules Westbourne brown boots tonight via their eBay outlet, £80 instead of £110 or something like that.

Still on the lookout for some black Chelsea type boots, ideally with brogue detail

DM Kensington Flora
Topshop 'Kash' or 'Klash'

FashionFiend · 15/11/2017 10:21

This will be the 4th Winter I've worn my R&B Chelsea boots. They are pricey but so comfortable and sturdy.

AnonEvent · 16/11/2017 12:30

Right, today is Chelsea boot day, I have no fewer than 20 tabs open (of boots I probably never would have found without you).

I'm GOING IN...

Thanks again!

My short list:

I'll try on any I can.

LK Bennet: www.lkbennett.com/product/5054760255496~Alexia-Black-Leather-Ankle-Boots-Black-EU%2037.5#

Russell and Bromley: www.russellandbromley.co.uk/ankle-boots/chelsea/invt/372245

Seasalt (but maybe not as smart as I'd planned): www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/shoes-sandals-boots/boots/rosie-leather-chelsea-ankle-boot_fathom.htm

Clarks: www.clarks.co.uk/c/Taylor-Shine/p/261119654055

Joules (I think I like these ones best): www.joules.com/Women/Shoes-Boots/Westbourne/Leather-Chelsea-Boots/Black?id=V_WESTBOURNE|BLACK

Cos (but may be a bit Wellyish around the ankle): www.cosstores.com/gb/Men/Shoes/Leather_Chelsea_boots/46917-77447275.1#c-22755

And good point Lucked about getting a grippy sole put on by a cobbler, I bloody love the existence of cobblers!

Those Cos ones are from the men's section and will be too big for you. How do you feel about these ones? www.cosstores.com/gb/Women/Shoes/Chelsea_boots/46897-35360052.1#c-22755

AnonEvent · 16/11/2017 13:03

...what if I wear seven pairs of socks?

The Cos site is a bit of a pain, I searched women's, the search results were men's - those ones are much better, thank you!!

OP posts:
AnonEvent · 16/11/2017 13:04

In fact, they might be NEW FAVOURITES!

I'd need to get some grip added, but the Joules ones (previous favourites) have wooden sole, which isn't usually very weather friendly).

The COS ones are truly lovely in th flesh. There’s a COS near my office and I keep eyeing them up every time I walk past. They seem like good value at £135.

hendricksyousay · 17/11/2017 07:10

Some of these really look like jodhpur boots ! .. I think if you want that sort of thing then get the cos ones . They re a great price for presumably excellent quality .

Lordasriel · 17/11/2017 07:29

I have Clarks. The foot part is comfortable but the tops cut into my legs. I’m hoping they will get more comfortable with wear.

Cousinit · 17/11/2017 07:37

I had the same problem several months ago. It's surprisingly hard to find the right chelsea boot. I agree with previous posters who have suggested DM Flora boots, which is what I went for in the end. They look great. The only drawback for me is they feel a little bit hard on my feet so not terribly comfortable if I am wearing them for a long time.

brogueish · 17/11/2017 09:14

The Cos ones are lovely. Do try some on though, I've got short legs and they did nothing for me unfortunately. I need a lower shaft and ultimately plumped for Grenson's Grace style.

TidyLike · 17/11/2017 11:26

I've got these ones. Amazingly comfortable given the price. Not leather but you'd never guess.

AnonEvent · 17/11/2017 14:33

I tried on the Cos ones today, I found the leather a bit hard - they look lovely though.

I think the Joules ones might not be quite smart enough (I'd like to wear them to work sometimes). So my next favourite are the LK Bennett ones (though they push it into a new price range...). Ho hum.

The brown Joules Westbourne boots I ordered arrived today. Very nice and a great price via their eBay outlet

BagelGoesWalking · 17/11/2017 18:15

Clark’s Orinoco are wonderful. So, so comfortable. I’ve got in black and brown -bought about 3 years ago - and will probably buy another black pair this year, as I wear them so much they’re looking a bit battered. Come in different width options as well.

hendricksyousay · 18/11/2017 21:57

www.tesco.com/direct/ff-leather-chelsea-boots/166-9960.prd?skuId=646-9873 just sharing in case it helps anyone . These are leather and very similar to a lot of expensive ones on here and a great price !!

MrsWineasaurus · 18/11/2017 22:05

I bought these from Boohoo. So comfortable and super cheap!
