The holy grail of Chelsea boots, desperately sought

Hi there,

I REALLY fancy a pair of Chelsea boots, which you'd think would be easy... but no.

Ideally, they would:

  1. Be black leather
  2. Have a slight grip on the sole to avoid me falling on my arse - BUT not have a bulky heavy sole (this is the hardest bit)
  3. Be quite neat and sleek, but not so narrow around the ankle that they make my calves look huge
  4. Have no unnecessary detailing (weird seams, coloured seam stitching, anything like that)
  5. Be really comfy (the ones I tried on in Office you could feel the stitching around the outside of the sole from the inside, and my colleague says hers from Clarks rub on the heel)

I am a size 5.5/39 and have quite narrow feet.

Halp meee!

Thanks.

I've bought some black leather ones from M & S
They do the wider fittings.
They look brilliant on. Stylish & comfy.
Plus they have a bit of grip on the bottom so can be worn in the daytime for trudging around and at the same time are smart enough for evening.
They're over £50 but well worth it for the comfort.

Following this as I’m after the same holy grail boot! Even the same size! I like those Clarks ones so gong to add those to my shopping list!

whatabreakthrough · 10/11/2017 18:27

is there a link to the Clarks ones?

GreggsSausageRolls · 10/11/2017 18:29

I have the Sainsburys ones, they’re fab. Might get a grip put on the bottom though, so I can wear them in icier weather too

That picture posted by AnonEvent has made me snort Grin

He looks like someone who pays women to let him touch their feet.

LadyFairfaxSake · 10/11/2017 18:42

@ Ruby,
Say it ain't so! I've seen the prices go up and up but I'm still wearing a pair I bought in 2000 so I can't fault the quality. Why have they become so expensive?

littlespeckledfrog · 10/11/2017 18:43

I also have the Clarks ones and they are really comfy. The heels do seem to be wearing down very quickly on them though.

BitchyHen · 10/11/2017 18:45

Another vote here for doc martens flora. I've had mine for about a year, they get a lot of wear and still look good. I spend a lot of time on my feet and they're really comfy.

TotemIcePole · 10/11/2017 18:50

I have just been looking in the past few weeks (in person)

Im a narrow 6.

Tesco Direct F&F - real leather £35. I sent them back as they looked like wellies on me. Too high in the shape/curve.

Topshop - real leather. Hurt my toe. Nice shape though.

The lady that worked in Topshop said she wears Chelsea Boots from New Look.

So, I went to New Look. Leather £39.99, but ASOS sell them on behalf of New Look online & often have 20% off.

The New Look ones were the best shape of them all but they dug in very slightly on the top.

I may still get them.

Anyway I looked on the Very catalogue website & they had brown Ugg Chelsea Boots £117 in ths sale, fur lined.

I ordered them and they really are lovely, fit well and look nice.

NinonDeLenclos · 10/11/2017 18:54

Aren't they a bit 5 years ago?

ShizzleYoDrizzle · 10/11/2017 18:56

Maybe the OP doesn't care that they're 'a bit 5 years ago'?

Maybe she just wants some Chelsea boots...

StatueInTheSky · 10/11/2017 18:57

only if you are from 5 years in the future ninondelenclos

I love my Fly London ones but possibly the sole might be too chunky for you. I have size 3 feet and corresponding child sized build and I don’t think they look too bulky on me.

SuperBeagle · 10/11/2017 19:06

I disagree that RM Williams are a "rip off". They're more expensive than they used to be, but the quality has not decreased at all, and the price hike can be attributed to an increase in demand.

I bought a new pair the other day. Paid $550. I know I'll get years upon years of wear out of them. Wouldn't be without them.

AnyFucker · 10/11/2017 19:11

I love those Ugg ones

whatabreakthrough · 10/11/2017 19:12

I'm not struck on those Clarks ones.
They don't come up high enough.

whatabreakthrough · 10/11/2017 19:14

Aren't they a bit 5 years ago?

Who cares.
I was at a Mall yesterday.
Most of the women wearing Chelsea boots looked really good.
Most of the women wearing regular length boots looked a bit 'mumsy'.

milkchocolatx5 · 10/11/2017 19:20

another vote for the DM Flora.

rubybleu · 10/11/2017 19:34

I guess because I’ve had RMs since I was a very little pony clubber when they were $100 and am now married to your typical Aussie RMs-as-dress-shoes bloke, that I don’t think they are worth the money. He’s had problems with his last pair, so has my boss. Admittedly RMs replaced them both with no quibbles but they are now owned by private equity, so who knows how long that will last.

Personally for £350 I think you have so many other options in the UK.

NoParticularPattern · 10/11/2017 20:05

Also seeking the holy grail of Chelsea boots! I adore my Redfoot Victoria boots, but they’ve just started to split after two years of absolute abuse (I have quite literally worn them several hours a day for two years!). I also have a pair of pointed Steve Madden ones which I love (they are just too high to do the pregnant waddle at the moment!!), but I really really want something flatter. I’d buy another pair from Redfoot in a heartbeat but I’m not massively struck on their only flattish ankle boots. Which is a shame as they are possibly the comfiest boots I’ve ever had and they have a proper grippy rubber sole!

I’d love the DMs but in my experience with DMs they make me look a little butch. I think I don’t have thin enough legs to pull them off! I wish I could though! My only real requirement is that they are a little taller than the Clarks ones as I’m a giant and short ones like that only serve to highlight my lack of trouser length further!!

ohidoliketobe · 10/11/2017 20:10

Another lover of Clarks Taylor Shine. On my 3rd autumn/ winter. I've a low pain tolerance when it comes to shoes - slightest discomfort and I will banish them to the depths of my wardrobe for eternity. So I didn't follow the advice for going down half a size and wish I had. I don't even have particularly narrow feet either. However I just wear them with thick socks and they're still super comfy.

ohidoliketobe · 10/11/2017 20:12

Those saying Clarks are short - have you seen them in the flesh? Only reason I say is that the pictures on the Clarks site makes them look a bit more stumpier than they actually are.
