The holy grail of Chelsea boots, desperately sought

Hi there,

I REALLY fancy a pair of Chelsea boots, which you'd think would be easy... but no.

Ideally, they would:

  1. Be black leather
  2. Have a slight grip on the sole to avoid me falling on my arse - BUT not have a bulky heavy sole (this is the hardest bit)
  3. Be quite neat and sleek, but not so narrow around the ankle that they make my calves look huge
  4. Have no unnecessary detailing (weird seams, coloured seam stitching, anything like that)
  5. Be really comfy (the ones I tried on in Office you could feel the stitching around the outside of the sole from the inside, and my colleague says hers from Clarks rub on the heel)

I am a size 5.5/39 and have quite narrow feet.

Halp meee!

Thanks.

i bought a lovely pair from mint and berry on zalando which i sent back purely because i wasn’t in a black mood. really nice shape. also the rosie boot from seasalt is lovely. i like the slim but rubbery sole so i can walk without falling over.

bathghter · 10/11/2017 20:29

@SchnitzelVonKrumm those are fantastic!

NoParticularPattern · 10/11/2017 20:36

I’m refusing to look at the Penelope Chilvers ones since I know how expensive and how lovely they are. And I will just NEED at least two pairs if I see them. Which I 100% can not afford!!

Also no, I haven’t seen the Clarks ones in the flesh but likely wouldn’t get on with them anyway. It’s very unusual for me to be able to find Clarks shoes to fit me. I must have very very weird feet but they are all slightly not right no matter what I do with size/width.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 10/11/2017 21:42

Aren’t they gorgeous? Sadly I can’t afford at the moment either Santa I’ve been very good

I am on my 3rd pair of the clarks taylor ones. I love them and are super comfy. They come up big though as I am a 5/5.5 and I wear a 4.5 in the clarks boots

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 10/11/2017 21:44

@NoParticularPattern But you are pregnant. You need comfortable footwear. It is very important.

dantdmistedious · 10/11/2017 22:12

Sainsbury’s if they still have them in. Mine are brown and the second year in a row I’ve bought them. Soooooo comfy and everything you ask for.

motmot · 10/11/2017 22:30

I've got a pair of Dr martens too (not the flora, mine have a more traditional dm sole although no yellow stitching) and so far they have been fantastic. They were £60 in the sale so pretty good value.

A departure for me as like a pp they are kind of masculine, but for some reason I just love them.

Been looking at too many Toast catalogues perhaps.

Wow, thanks for all the responses, I’ll have a good look through, but lots of new places to look, thank you!!

Went into vagabond shoeshop today. Beautiful boots including their Chelsea boots. Could have spent a fortune in there.

cocopops88 · 10/11/2017 22:51

Try Fairfax and Favor.

KanyeWesticle · 10/11/2017 22:55

Sam Edelman Petty boots are lovely. Pricey but there are sales.

Yazoop · 10/11/2017 23:00

I bought a pair of Russell and Bromley ones a few years' back and they are still going strong. Sturdy, well made, comfortable, and look good. They are a bit pricey but a decent investment, instead of getting cheap ones that only last one winter.

NoParticularPattern · 11/11/2017 07:55

@SchnitzelVonKrumm this is very true. I wonder if DH could be persuaded that they are a) essential and b) my Christmas present?! Although considering he’s a very tight Yorkshire farmer I would doubt it! I’m still not looking Sad

Vagabond do indeed have some nice boots! I might be persuaded by a pair of those (or at least DH might be by the price of those vs PC!!)

MrsPeacockDidIt · 11/11/2017 09:37

why oh why did I check out the Penelope Chilvers website ?? I'm now lusting after several pairs and I just don't think I can justify the prices, although christmas IS just round the corner.................

rightknockered · 11/11/2017 11:45

I like my Joseph Cheaney ones

bathghter · 11/11/2017 13:01

boden have shamelessly ripped off the penelope chiver’s neon boots.

hendricksyousay · 11/11/2017 13:03

I hate the shininess if the clarks ones and the style really so I’m guessing you guys won’t like my offerings but I have two pairs from super dry from last year in tan and grey . They are lovely ! I’ll get the linky

hendricksyousay · 11/11/2017 13:05

www.superdry.com/womens/boots/details/63551/millie-suede-chelsea-boots-black. They come in 4 colours I think .

ElspethFlashman · 11/11/2017 13:11

For those admiring the Ugg ones, remember that they have a really good sale in late Feb/early March. Remember Wilcox-mania on here last year? Grin

dontcallmelen · 11/11/2017 13:14

I have really twiglet legs & always feel as though, when I try on Chelsea boots I look like a golf club has anyone successfully found ones that don’t channel the golf club look?
Would love a pair, rather than going straight from loafers/trainers to long boots.

hendricksyousay · 11/11/2017 13:20

@dontcallmelen have you got big feet ? If you have slim legs I’m sure they look fine . I think it’s the foot size that makes a difference more than anything .

whatabreakthrough · 11/11/2017 13:31

dontcallmelen, you need to go for slightly longer

dontcallmelen · 11/11/2017 14:01

@hendricks think you might be right, have very small feet size 2.5
@whata yes longer ones maybe the way to go, thinking maybe a lace up rather than a pull on, as they really gape around my ankles.
