Who's getting the M&S advent calendar then?

I ordered mine today. So excited, I've never had one before.

I was umm ing and ahhing about this for a few days.

Went online to order one and found a couple of other items. Got everything sorted. Went to choose delivery. Went to payment. Did payment. Press final button only to be told “due to high demand the advent calendar is out of stock” followed by the same message for one of the items of clothing. Then another for the last item of clothing, I’m not especially bothered. And don’t think I can be bothered to flog to next town to go and see if there’s any in store there as I have no other reason to go there.

I just thought Shockand Confusedat how I’d got that far with purchases before they were able to tell me it was all out of stock.

tobee · 11/11/2017 18:27

PS When I say I’m not that bothered, I mean I wasn’t sure I ought to be spending that money on myself in the first place.

TrinityBelle · 11/11/2017 18:28

Ive ordered mine. I bought one on a whim last year and discovered some real gems in there.

Sentimentallentil · 11/11/2017 18:29

My store literally had hundreds in, it was actually like a comedy sketch hey were piled high in the aisles. I was like ‘well can I take one of these?’ And the woman was like ‘there’s no we can do that I’m afraid’ Hmm

Trills · 11/11/2017 18:30

There are three things from last year that I loved and bought more of.

And quite a few more that I liked using the little one, but didn't like enough to spend money on.

That's worth £35 to me.

MelanieCheeks · 11/11/2017 18:36

I've got mine! Have bought it the previous couple of years: one time my daughter, Mum and sister got together for a binge opening and divvy up of the contents, which was great fun. I still have the fab packaging from previous years, and have used them to make an alcohol mini calendar, or a mid-year one for my son who was heading off abroad, and so we were having Christmas in April.

I find the contents a bit hit and miss - I have enough nail varnish and mascara to last a lifetime, but some of the magic potions and lotions are super.
TL:DR I buy it for the packaging.

Howaboutthisone · 12/11/2017 12:16

I ordered online for collection today. Just had an email confirming that part of my order has arrived. The beauty calendar hasn't! Bloody typical!

Shine2018 · 12/11/2017 15:46

I got mine in store the other day - there were literally hundreds stacked high.

My wish list, based on last year's calendar:

  • No multiple products for taming/calming wild hair - I have really fine hair so the hair oil, living proof smoothing cream and elasticizer were wasted on me!
  • No suntan lotion SPF lip balm - can't afford a holiday Grin
  • Definitely not two nail polishes that are practically the same colour (what was all that about!!)
  • No utensils - I have all the utensils I need, I just want miracle products now.
otherdoor · 12/11/2017 17:42

I bought it on a whim when I was buying a birthday present yesterday evening. I've seen them in previous years and not been remotely tempted so not sure what's changed this year! I think it's that in the last few months I've suddenly noticed I am looking my age (having always looked young for my age...) and want to start taking better care of myself. Excited!

Trills · 12/11/2017 19:27

Those nail varnishes really were the same colour last year. It was annoying.

Blerg · 13/11/2017 12:07

It's not of much consequence but it's slightly annoying they are shipping the calendars separately to the other orders. I'm off to collect by other bits and will have to go back. Wonder why.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/11/2017 12:14

Mine's just arrived & I'm gazing longingly at it. Grin

IJustLostTheGame · 13/11/2017 12:16

I've ordered mine
Everyone is getting their Christmas presents from M&S this year

EgremontRusset · 13/11/2017 12:18

DM has just given me one Grin anyone up for a thread where we enjoy wasting time critiquing the contents during December?

DaftCat · 13/11/2017 12:20

DH bought me one on Saturday, well, I persuaded him that he needed new trousers and then stood next to the calendars until he noticed them and picked one up too. He bought me one last year & it was great. This year looks good too. It’s taunting me at the moment but I will be strong and wait till December.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/11/2017 12:31

Oh yes please Russet

Did you have to wave a pointy finger sign too?Grin

DaftCat · 13/11/2017 12:58

Buffalo
I was studiously reading the back of one. He said “what’s that?”
“It’s the advent calendar thing, remember I had one last year?”
Long pause
Then the hint was taken.

tkband3 · 13/11/2017 13:10

There's no way I'd have paid full price for this, but as the DDs needed some new tights, and I needed a couple of tops, I got one for £35...picking it up tomorrow (hopefully!).

Sentimentallentil · 13/11/2017 13:14

I wasn’t even subtle I said ‘give me £70 and I’ll buy you’re aunties presents, the Christmas cards and a present for me.’

He hates doing Christmas shopping and knows a good deal when he hears it Halo

Howaboutthisone · 13/11/2017 19:29

It came in the day after in the end! Picked it up today and looking forward to December now to start opening. It's tempting to just open them all now but it was a nice little thing to do in the mornings last year to set the day up!

Sparkletastic · 13/11/2017 19:38

DM has got me one for my birthday which is next week. Loved last year’s. Way better than the Clarins, BeneFit and L’Occitane ones I’ve had.

BusterGonad · 14/11/2017 19:50

I got one on Friday AND I also have last years UNOPENED waiting for the 1st December.....so I use them both together or save this years for next year!!!!!! Decisions decisions!!! Grin

Trills · 14/11/2017 22:20

Open both.

Every day decide if 2016 or 2017 was better.

At the end, add it up and see which one wins.
