Oh gosh, forgot to say Shop your bag is fab.....does it really matter what the lining is made of?would it make you love it less is it wasn’t leather?

Fairylane · 06/01/2018 00:56

That bag is perfection - you will get good cpw. And it will save you in the future as it will elevate so many outfits and last many seasons!

Fairylane · 06/01/2018 02:24

Could I please ask for you honest opinions on this bag? After stalking it for a while in sales and missing out it has come bag into stock. Has yet to arrive but I don’t know if it will be used a lot (for work (corporate environment) and winter weekend days.

I’m real looking for a replacement for my old faithful black Mulberry Bayswater which is starting to look a bit worn out.

Everyonelovessparkles · 06/01/2018 07:44

Funnily enough kitty I saw those trainers in the catalogue yesterday and thought they looked a good option! As I’m a 5 I can often get trainers from the kids section at a reduced rate,so might get 2 pairs!

blingy, I was going to suggest fitted jumpers to go with the leather skirt too, that’s what I usually wear with mine. I like dry’s other suggestion of a white shirt though, they could be a good work option for you? I haven’t been to the ballet in ages. Sounds like a lovely evening. I guess even though your bill seems high, it’s through quality rather than quantity.

justa those cords look good.

Shame about the JL top kitty. Glad the Gucci belt was a good investment. Those of you who have bought it seem to be getting good wear out if it.

fairy that bag is nice but it doesn’t look as big as a Bayswater inside? Do you use the Bayswater for work? The strap would be useful but could dig into your shoulder if it’s loaded up with a laptop, work stuff etc or do you carry that in a separate bag? It’s also quite angular. Would you use it for casual / weekends as well?

kittyhello · 06/01/2018 08:24

Lovely bag Fairy but as Every said not sure if it would work as a work bag. Blingy has recently bought a gorgeous Chloe bag, but I'm not sure if it's that model.

That skirt is very you Blingy it's a gorgeous colour.

Every re: trainers I looked at Adidas kids as I have small feet but the colours were a bit more limited although I think they did have all white one iirc.

Dry I did my annual sales M&S bra buying but managed to get some nice Rosie HW stuff which fits well and looks nice too. I won't buy bras without matching knickers though. Blingy will be proud Grin

Also thinking ahead to S/S I also bought

gold Arizonas haven't worn Birkenstocks for years. Used to wear Madrid ones many moons ago.

Stokey · 06/01/2018 08:48

Shop I use The Ordinary 2% Advanced Retinol. But only use it a couple of times a week (never more than every other day) and always use SPF 50 - better late than never! I haven't had any problems but my skin is like a crocodile's. Actually my favourite product of their's is the Rose Hip Seed oil. I find it amazing how much oil my skin can soak up these days.

Lovely cords Justa, I think I did wear the Chubby stick to an MU, you have a great memory!

Love your leather skirt tips Dry and could see you rocking grey ankle boots. Feel like I've seen some recently. I'm tempted by some Zebra ones from Stories but really don't need them.

I agree with Every & Kitty about the bag Fairy, it looks a little small for work - unless you carry a lot less crap than me! Quick Google shows an Oxblood Bayswater for around the £750 mark, maybe you just need to replace?

DryWhiteagainW · 06/01/2018 10:07

I have a gift voucher for John Lewis so amhipi g to find grey boots there.

Agree that Blingy could do white shirt/leather skirt/pumps for work....v French look.

AmberNectarine · 06/01/2018 14:59

I love the Faye fairy, considering myself, but it wouldn't fit all my work crap. I now use my Neverfull for that. Beautiful, beautiful bag though, and if you don't have to cart papers and laptop like I do, could be really useful.

MarshaBradyo · 06/01/2018 15:56

Fairy I love the Chloe bag, as long as it can fit your stuff. I much prefer it to the Bayswater

shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 16:02

Gorgeous bag Fairy but it doesn't look as robust as the Bayswater - much more elegant though - beautiful. As everyone else says - it will depend if it will fit everything you need.

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 06/01/2018 18:24

Everyone I’ve been thinking about it but we have so much kit :0
Bugaboo on ground, Moses on middle and bedside at top in bedroom. Also have been reading a lot from Lullaby Trust and not sure I can put it in a cot. But maybe it would help even more

Topazwithpearls · 06/01/2018 18:29

Kitty the boots have a narrow opening, with not much give due to the triangular shape of the elastic. I have wide feet, but once I have them on, they are very comfortable. I wore them in town today and they were fine. I love the neat shape and pointy toe. I am assuming that they will get easier to put on and off with repeated use.

Hello Fairy! I love that bag, but depending on your job, agree with others that it might not be as much of a workhorse as a Bayswater.

shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 20:29

Love those boots Topaz I’ve been living in my Acne Jensen’s since DH got them for me for my birthday. So comfortable and the shape just makes jeans feel smarter somehow. CPW on them will be good even though DH had a heart attack originally.
The other item that I’ve been wearing loads is my Massimo Dutti check scarf. I really feel as though I’m making better choices when I shop now.
I did my wardrobe clearout and only got rid of two items this time, and one was because it was looking tatty. That felt good.
Mainly down to the advice from you lovely lot. I definitely have a better eye now. Does that come with age do you think?
Did I say up thread that I am considering going grey? Which will probably mean cutting all my hair off. EEK.

Everyonelovessparkles · 06/01/2018 20:38

Lovely boots topaz, great to see you back! Hopefully they will soften up with wear.

I hear you on the kit front marsha, I think my DB did use the sleepyhead in the crib and he has the next size up and my DN sleeps in it now (but she is one now).

I think you are right shop that over time we become better at knowing what suits us and our life styles so make less erroneous purchases. Also we have more disposable income to make investment purchases and appreciate these more. Whereas in my twenties it was all about a new outfit every weekend.

FedupNagging · 06/01/2018 21:01

Funny you should mention going grey Shop & cutting all your hair - I read the head shave to go grey thread yesterday link here. Drastic measures but probably worth it in the long run.

Kitty I love those gold birkenstocks; I saw a similar pair linked somewhere a while ago and decided they'd make a good alternative to fitflops.

Dry thanks for the leather skirt styling ideas - am struggling with mine and only have a couple of tops that really look good with it. Will have a trying on session to see what else might work.

shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 21:08

Yes I read that one too Fedup - I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I am 80% grey now and my hair grows so fast that it is tricky to keep up with regrowth. I had thought I’d wait until my fifties but some of the pics on that thread and elsewhere have made me wonder if I could carry it off. I had short hair all through my late teens and twenties and only grew it long mid thirties. I worry that my jawline is a lot saggier than it was though so not sure I can carry off the same edgy cuts.

FedupNagging · 06/01/2018 21:13

Oops, hit post by accident!

Mint Velvet had some fab grey boots recently dry

Can't remember if I linked these snake skin boots but have worn them several times recently and had loads of positive comments - a potential option to with the leather skirt maybe?

Fairy love that Chloe bag. Also love the shirt the model is wearing.

Glad that MiniMarsha is sleeping well. It will be lovely to have some time on your own with her when the others are at school.

FedupNagging · 06/01/2018 21:20

Shop I totally think you could carry off an edgy grey cut although it doesn't need to be a sharp chin length style. Your own clothing style will provide the edgy bit as well.

A thought, if one goes grey, whilst your complexion won't alter, I wonder if you would need to alter the colours you wear?

shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 21:25

Oh God I hope not Fedup since me clothes are mainly black, white, grey and occasional reds and fuschias I thought that would be ok?
I love this but I think I am more white grey than this
The growing out bit terrifies me.

OP posts:
FedupNagging · 06/01/2018 21:35

Have you talked to your hairdresser about growing out? One option is to colour your hair a similar shade to the grey and grow it out that way - in which case you could go for the colouring in your link until it's all gown out.

The colours you wear would look fab with silver/white grey hair - how fab does this lady look with the red lips (one of your NY resolutions). Disclaimer: I appreciate she is older than you but still super stylish!

shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 21:38

She does look great.
It is the fact that i’m ‘Only’ 45 that scares me
My mum never died her hair and was always a fab silver grey. As a jewel winter it is supposed to suit me but I have all the irrational fears. That it’ll age me, that DH will hate it, that I’ll turn into a middle age frump.....

OP posts:
FedupNagging · 06/01/2018 21:46

Definitely not a middle aged frump!

It is a big step though despite all the gorgeous pics on pin so maybe cutting off all your hair is not an option. If it's an itch you just have to scratch then go for the dye job - if you hate it then can easily (ish) dye it back.

My recent itch was caramel highlights similar to this had been pondering for ages so finally went for it in the summer & hated it so went back to my usual very dark one colour fairly quickly.

shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 21:51

I’m seeing Tim in a couple of weeks to get my hair done for this big party so i’ll have a chat with him then.

OP posts:
shopafrolic · 06/01/2018 21:54

It sort of feels like I should have done it pre Christmas rather than heading out of winter but that’s me being silly I guess. It’s the thought of being on a beach with grey hair that feels weird for some reason. All the shots you ever see are of grey haired beauties in cosy roll neck jumpers.

OP posts:
Fairylane · 07/01/2018 01:31

Thanks for your thoughts on the Faye. I got it in the sales so not bad price. I lug laptop and papers around everyday but over the last few years or so I have carried a dedicated workhorse bag (first a pliage and, more recently, a plain black leather Jaeger tote). The intention was to use more of my ‘naice’ bags as I don’t go out that much otherwise (except with kids at weekends). Also to stop damaging my bags with the weight of everything.

Anyway, I will see how it goes when it arrives and report back ....

I totally agree re getting older and knowing what suits you better and also having capacity to spend a bit more (and to recognise that the cpw is important) - all makes a difference. I love being me style-wise more than I ever did in my twenties (when I had much much better figure).

My OH suggested I go grey yesterday - no way for me - at least for now.... although it does look incredible on so many women.

I’m the same as Stokey, The Ordinary’s Rose Hip Seed Oil is my favourite so far - very simple and soothing. One of my DCs is also using it on her very dry face.

Kitty the gold Birkies are lovely. I’ve wanted a pair of white Madrids for years but never got around to it.
