There are now 5ml bottles of LADDM on the Tauer site for 15CHF.

It has just occurred to me that dp's brother lives in Switzerland, and is coming to the UK in December...

explodingkittens · 06/11/2017 19:47

CountFosco - I must admit that I find the Narcisco Rodriguez line to be made up mostly of PMs, but it gets quite a lot of love on these threads. Equally, I rather like Nina by Nina Ricci, which was mentioned as a bit of a minger on a previous thread. So, in the end, it's all a matter of taste - one person's PM is another's soft and pretty scent...

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/11/2017 19:48

SOTD is JHAG Mad Madame. It is so cold today here.

For me a pink minger smells bright as well as pink. Sweet, fruity, and somehow high. If it was a noise, it would be a shriek.

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/11/2017 19:52

I really like Narciso Rodriguez For Her, kittens. I don’t think it’s remotely pink!

mrsreynolds · 06/11/2017 19:55

Narciso rodriguez poudree is gorgeous

explodingkittens · 06/11/2017 20:00

Grin I knew that would get a reaction! I just find them very sweet. The purpley flanker one especially is eye watering. Shame, because the bottles are lovely.

don't throw me off the thread please!

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/11/2017 20:21

Ha, kittens,it’s the black one I have, which I think is the original one. A lot of the 4160s I’ve tried have been pink mingers to me, particularly the country ones with the years - it is such a personal thing, isn’t it? For me the ultimate PM was (not sure it’s made now) Chloe Narcisse. Absolutely disgusting. One of my friends at uni alternated between it and what I consider another, JPG, she totally reeked. I honked of Eternity around the same time. We were out together a few weeks ago and talking about it then, funnily enough. Clearly now far more sophisticated, obvs.

mrsreynolds · 06/11/2017 20:29

Kittens..the purple and pink one are indeed PMs Grin
I think my ultimate PM is ysl Paris Envy

PerfumeIsAMessage · 06/11/2017 20:54

Paris is NOT a PM!!! Grin
Narcisse-god yes, foul.
(I get it confused with Tresor because when I was lavished in Dune in about 93, all the women at work wore one or the other)
I have a Narciso R sample of something. Haven't tried it yet.

MrsMacNally · 06/11/2017 20:55

Nah - we don't need to collapse into relativism. I think you can factor in quality/concept & ambition/execution/innovation and good old fashioned beauty etc etc to make aesthetic judgements beyond 'do I like it?'.

So my take on this would be that pink mingers are generic, sugary and fruity for 'girls' (based on that familiar and reductive take on what's 'feminine'). These perfumes are boring and lack soul and smell synthetic in a bad way and make big bucks for big cynical manufactures.

Tarts Knicker Drawer is a floriental made of beautiful things. It smells of rose, powder and parma violets and knowingly nods to scents of the past. This might well make it pink (and violet) and absolutely not to your taste. But that's not enough to make it a pink minger not in my book anyway Grin.

Although I guess this may also leads us into another hot topic: is perfume art?

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/11/2017 21:01

mrsm I love (and own a full bottle of) FM Lipstick Rose which I think has been described as a pink minger previously. It sounds like TKD might be similar? I actually wouldn’t put Paris in that category either, although I would never wear it now. I think PMs need to be a bit fruity?

OCSockOrphanage · 06/11/2017 21:13

Scent confection today was a PP Amouage Opustastic oil plus a spritz of PP Noir de Noir. The combination lasted well but was perfectly moderate and not too heavy. Spur of the moment choices that worked well.

Every company has PMs. They are usually the things the sales assistant are told to dowse you in. Some scents you just hate because they are too strong or not you. I admire both Alien and Angel, because they are so distinctive, but loathe them. I also dislike most straight rich florals (and the gourmands) because they don't suit my sense of who I am. Tuberose, gardenia, lily, muguet, jasmine, anything coconut... is not me. My nose likes woods and spice, incense and green, and flowers are always roses, iris and osmanthus.

GreenPolishToGo · 06/11/2017 21:26

Evening all. The weekend passed in a whirl with DD home from university. So lovely, but tonight, with her gone back, DS and I are feeling rather like champagne that's lost its fizz. He 's having a Lego session and I might have to distract myself with a vintage scent trawl...Just for research, of course...

I'm also sure our definitions of Pink Minger will differ widely and I do like quite a lot of sweet stuff that would fall in the PM class for others. YSL Paris and Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, to name two that have just been mentioned by other perfumistas. For me, Pink Mingers are scents that smell sickly sweet, generic and give the impression of having been thrown together in haste. The Juicy Couture something or other I was silly enough to spray casually on one wrist in Superdrug was a prime example of a Pink Minger that I had to scurry home to scrub.

SOTD is beautiful spicy vintage Opium which is wonderfully warming and cheering on a cold, dreary day. Only I've been decanting so it now has a peculiar overlay of vintage Y and L'Atelier des Bois de Grasse Fleur d'Oranger Baie Rose. I don't seem to be able to decant without getting at least a drop or two on myself!

MrsMac I settled on Rosa Ribes, Tokyo Spring Blossom and the stunning and very limited Proust perfume Marcel from the 4160 Tuesdays three for two offer. The very next day some samples I'd ordered from 4160 landed. One was Time to Draw the Raffle Numbers, which gets mixed reviews and I admit I wasn't expecting to like much. I loved it so much I wished I'd delayed putting in my three for two order! I got hot metal, tobacco, coffee, marmalade, paper and croissant, with the croissant gradually dominating the other notes. It was great fun and very unusual.

Pest I wasn't a bit restrained with Merchant of Venice Byzantium Saffron! Despite it being practically top of the current wish-list I didn't recognise it when you were discussing it. Blush The one I guessed was Caldey Island Number One and that was because I remembered MrsMac's review. I am quite sure I would have been another in the "I like this. It smells nice," camp if I had been playing.

But, just for fun, I'll offer this one to guess sans sample to sniff. It is a perfume appropriate for an Archer but not in Ambridge... Wink

MrsMacNally · 06/11/2017 21:42

Hope it's not VC&A First and Jeffrey Grin.

Green - look out for the Postman tomorrow. Wink

MsRinky · 06/11/2017 22:01

My Rhubarb and Citrus hasn't arrived yet . When did you all get yours - should I be chasing it up?

MrsMacNally · 06/11/2017 22:14

And Tresor isn't either, even though I'd rather eat my own feet than wear it. Smile

Saturday Ms Rinky - what did you order? Guess they may have been dispatching some lines ahead of others?

MsRinky · 06/11/2017 22:30

I ordered a 50ml of the Rhubarb and Citrus. Not had an e-mail since the receipt on 28th September. Hope it arrives soon.

I'm also waiting on my sample set of Jazmin Sarai music scents that I've had to pay a customs charge on.

MrsMacNally · 06/11/2017 22:42

Fingers crossed you get them soon. They might've bottled the 9mls first - fiddliest? I really like the rhubarb and citrus cologne - worth waiting for! I hedged my bets, but it's the sort of thing you want to squirt around with abandon, so I envy your big bottle.

Have you got yours yet Green?

GreenPolishToGo · 06/11/2017 23:50

Ooh exciting! Thank you MrsMac Smile I will be wending my way to the post office with Y and Fleur d'Oranger etc tomorrow so please keep everything crossed for me that I have beaten my decant jinx.

My three Rhubarb and Custard 9mls have arrived safely but got overlooked in the excitement of DD coming home - first unwrapping tomorrow! I do remember in the crowd funding some perks, including the 9mls, had an estimated arrival date in October, whereas others (mostly big bottles) were due in November, so it sounds like the bottling is being staggered. Hope your bottle turns up soon MsRinky

Never fear the mystery perfume has nothing to do with Jeffrey or his "fragrant" spouse. It's a rather more highbrow Archer.

CheapTarnishedGlitter · 07/11/2017 05:48

MsRinky I might be misremembering but I think some of the most popular o as had a sort of second release, or extension of availability (might be confusing it with OML though...) Not sure if mine has arrived as It's being delivered to work and now out of the office until Thursday (sob)

explodingkittens · 07/11/2017 07:36

SOTD is Avignon. Heavenly incense, cold stone and wood.

I hope my 4160s arrive today!

MrsMacNally · 07/11/2017 09:42

Still thinking about PMs...so just to dig a bigger hole for myself Grin, here's an art metaphor:

I can think of loads of paintings I wouldn't want to hang on my living room wall (whether original or reproduction) but which are important/interesting pieces of art, produced with integrity and vision.

You can walk around the home furnishings department of major stores and find 'paintings' produced to fill space on a wall whilst not jarring with contemporary trends in home decoration. These are mass produced to a different set of design sensibilities. Bad examples are the first cousins of our pink mingers. (And good examples, a generation later, become appropriated, ironically, as kitsch and become highly collectable ...Grin).

(Although still puzzling perfume as art or craft...).

BluebellGal · 07/11/2017 12:40

SOTD is Miller Harris Lumiere Doree. More of a cologne than perfume. The top notes reminds me of the lemon splash the Spanish put on their babies bottoms. Lots of musk in the dry down which is quite heavenly & fresh for a musk.

Sitting on long train journey home, hopefully won’t be as drawn out and journey there. Nice dinner last night although was feeling a bit self conscious about my strong MFK perfume!

My take on PMs (only learnt the term a few threads back) is tacky perfumes that are overly sweet for those with unrefined tastes. I realise that sounds really snobby but I honestly do think that! It’s the equivalent of someone saying they like wine and then telling you their favourite is Echo Falls.

BluebellGal · 07/11/2017 12:41

[apols for typos and bad grammar Blush]

MrsPestilence · 07/11/2017 13:11

Almost a bun fight over PMs. As PiaM said, I think we all have different answers. To me a PM smells like skittles that have been left to marinade in vodka (a favourite of teenagers). Mon Guerlain was a PM on me, but a rich caramel floral on the SA (she was shocked at my refusal of a sample and made me smell her). Almonds I like in a perfume but more the bitter cyanide type Confused. Me and violets have a more complex relationship sometimes they are delightful at other times they are ultra violet mingers.

Blue rhubard smells like BO on me too. For years I assumed it was ginger (they are often combined) but it is definitely the rhubarb. I avoid it.

Count how did your boss take the bad news?

We are going to have to do another workshop soon. I want to smell every note individually, in order to be able to distinguish it. Judy, Kittens you up for one, sometime?

Sorry Green, your near Hermoine moments was indeed Caldey No1. I browsed back through the thread to check some of my wants and bumped into a bit with you and Blue discussing Byzantine Saffron, evidently I am easily confused.

A clue Grin from Green

Currently clueless. But will think about it whilst musing perfume and art.
