This isn't a good look is it?

Ignore the decorating mess please.
I'm trying the boot/dress combo for the first time and thought I'd got it in the shop but I haven't have I?
I'm short with stumpy legs and boots which are too tall or fussy make me look squat. So I thought plain low wedges with leggings but I dunno.
The dress is going back. It looked good in the shop but it doesn't now. Don't you hate it when that happens?!
Any suggestions? I want something different to knee high boots.

This dress is too big for me now and the top looks awful now (looked OK when I was bigger) but this sort of skirt?
Black thick tights.

I think you need shoes with a heel for that dress not wedges.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 14/10/2017 16:36

I love that second dress on you, sizing issues aside obviously! That dress brings out the boots and flatters your shape.

polyhymnia · 14/10/2017 16:39

I think as some PPs have said that a longer length dress - to the knee or just covering it - would look a lot more flattering. Then definitely some velvety opaques, not leggings.

polyhymnia · 14/10/2017 16:40

Second dress - in right size - so much better.

BusterGonad · 14/10/2017 16:41

I agree with Untilthecows the boots are a bit meh, they aren't very stylish but aren't horrible either, they are just a bit meh.
I wear suede ankle boots with dresses and suede knee highs.

paq · 14/10/2017 16:42

I think the first dress is very pretty but it does nothing for you, sorry. If you can send it back I would.

DurhamDurham · 14/10/2017 16:42

I like both dresses, the first one looks much better without the thick black tights. I think they would look better with shoes or smarter ankle boots which aren't quite so clumpy. You have a lovely figure so could carry off most styles Smile

Civilservant · 14/10/2017 16:44

The boots look too tight.

TSSDNCOP · 14/10/2017 16:44

It doesn't go. The dress needs a longer boot if boots are the way you want to go.

SierraFerrara · 14/10/2017 16:48

Thanks everyone. So...
Green dress def going back.
Dress + leggings = bad (on me anyway).
Jury out on the boots. Heels are a no as I walk everywhere. The statement/clumpy boots didn't really work somehow but will try again.

I think a heeled boot or long boot would be better. I have tried this look and it can end up looking a bit welsh with flat ankle boots.I like the purple tights better. The dress is nice.

StigmaStyle · 14/10/2017 16:49

Yes to the longer, swishier dress. It's a bit too long but immediately mades you look more elegant and poised and your legs look longer..

MsHarry · 14/10/2017 16:49

I like the second dress.

MsHarry · 14/10/2017 16:51

Nor welsh grrrrr! Wellyish!!!

WomblingThree · 14/10/2017 16:51

To be fair OP, you’ve now been told that the dress, the shoes, the first tights and the second tights are wrong. Almost everyone has said that it would be fine if you changed x, y or z.

I actually think you looked perfectly nice to start with. That dress is a lovely colour on you, and tights and boots are tights and boots.

SierraFerrara · 14/10/2017 16:52

The boots aren't too tight. :) Look, photo evidence! Hehe!
Sorry, the leggings are back on and how covered in cat hair.

NotAgainYoda · 14/10/2017 16:54

The second dress is a great length and shape for you

NotAgainYoda · 14/10/2017 16:55

I think wedge heels are very unflattering

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2017 16:56

I like the first dress. It needs opaques - maybe 60d or 40. The boots look wrong, but can't quite put my finger on why.

DJBaggySmalls · 14/10/2017 16:59

I think its the shoes that are the problem, they are too pinched looking. They need to be the same colour as your legs to keep the length, but maybe a calf boot with a squarer toe?

You look better than me in those photos, I'm having a wardrobe clear out and its not going well. I look like either a ship in full sail or a witch.

AnnetteCurtains · 14/10/2017 17:01

the first dress is lovey but is it slightly too big for you ?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2017 17:02

Are the boots a wedge heel? Maybe that's what's wrong. I hate wedged boots - they always look a bit trotter-esque imvho.

StorminaBcup · 14/10/2017 17:05

It’s the boots. The dress is nice on but because the wedges do have a defined heel it all looks a bit chunky. Agree with Chelsea boots or biker boots or some other style.

Ofthread · 14/10/2017 17:08

I don't think dress and leggings ever looks great on anyone. Second look is so much better, you might still be able to get away with that dress with a separate belt around the waist. Some people do wear a much bigger gap around the ankle with that look, is slims the legs.
