Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

I love pears soap and have used it for years. We have one of these dispensers for the bathroom sink, the soap lasts absolutely ages as it doesn't ever sit in a puddle. It was an expensive outlay initially but each soap lasts about 8 months and we were getting through a bottle of hand soap per fortnight so it was well worth it.

Love the idea of tk maxx and supermarket buyers trying to work out why sales have suddenly rocketed Grin

Soap instead of shower gel
Orangeplastic · 05/10/2017 17:50

I don't use any soap or shower gel near my bum and I smell just fine - my flora are in harmony. Grin I use soap on my feet and upper body. Nothing else gets soaped unless I've been out on a muddy run!

FiveShelties · 05/10/2017 17:58

Does using soap in the shower make it more difficult to clean? I seem to have an idea in my mind that shower gel makes the glass easier to clean - no idea why though.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 05/10/2017 18:09

Does anyone old remember getting bronnley lemon soap? Shaped like one, smelled like one, wrapped in tissue paper? I coveted one so much, then I got one and it made me sneeze. Morrisons do lemon soap, I'm very tempted.

Can I ask a question please? Just did I always use imperial leather foamburst in my shower and I wash my fanjo, yes I know you’re not supposed to but I do. Can I use soap in the same manner? I’d happily swap to soap for the financial benefit alone. 1 can of foamburst is lucky to last a week in this house.

I just got a 4pack of shield from Tesco for £1.50😀

mathanxiety · 05/10/2017 18:43

If it's anything like the one I have, you stick a little metal disk into the soap and this sticks to the underside of the magnetic part that is attached to the wall. The disk has short, blunt prongs so it stays put.

Further to my post above, about avoiding palm oil in soaps for ecological reasons (rainforest destruction), I forgot to mention that it is present in most soaps in the form of sodium palmate.
If you care about this, check the soap is made from palm oil from sustainable sources (if it is, it will say) or look in to glycerine based soaps, which are great.

It's got nothing to do with flora being in harmony.

Faeces is actually oily. Unless you use moist loo paper every time you poo, your bum will have small amounts of poo on it. We need to use something with a surfactant to remove the oil and bacteria, which otherwise can transfer to the front bottom :)

Jiggler · 05/10/2017 21:45

Why wouldn't you wash your arse and fanny with a bit of soap or shower gel?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/10/2017 21:48

I wouldn't use soap on my fanny either or I wouldn't be able to sit down for a week with thrush!

Flatbum · 05/10/2017 22:02

SOAP on your ARSE= yes most definitely
SOAP on your MINNIE= definitely 10000000000% no, not ever. Unless its femfresh and on the advice of a gynaecologist or some form of doctor. Even then id be hesitant. I get thrush even if my knickers are too effing tight never mind giving it a scrub with soap or showergel (shudders)

PollyPerky · 05/10/2017 22:02

I don't wash my fanny with soap. I am very much against that. I said I washed my anus. Read carefully.

Ollivander84 · 05/10/2017 22:04

I have to use hibiscrub around the top of my thighs/groin but for medical reasons (or antibac soap) and I'm v careful not to get it anywhere it shouldn't be!

Jiggler · 05/10/2017 22:08

'I said I washed my anus. Read carefully.'

Whoopie-dee-do for your perky anus!

I'm not suggesting putting soap up one's orifices but a bit of washing around the groin with soap/shower gel is pretty basic hygiene for me.

Jiggler · 05/10/2017 22:08

Never had thrush in my life.

Orangeplastic · 05/10/2017 22:09

Why wouldn't you wash your arse and fanny with a bit of soap or shower gel?
Because I have an extreme skin condition that the medical profession struggle to resolve - and I read an interesting article about skin flora being a largely unexplored concept and a suggestion that my skin bacteria might fight back just like good gut bacteria fights back - so I decided to experiment on myself about 2 years ago and the result, along with the other things I have tried, that have also not been scientifically proven as yet, have fixed the unfixable - or it could just be chance....but I'm very happy with the result!

Flatbum · 05/10/2017 22:09

jiggler 😂

Jiggler · 05/10/2017 22:11

Well that certainly makes sense in your case Orange.

Flatbum · 05/10/2017 22:12

jiggler your even more sarcastic than me, are we related? 🤗

Jiggler · 05/10/2017 22:14

Well I can be a little sarcastic I suppose...Wink

(I was being sincere to Orange though, when you find something that works for a medical issue you stick with it!)

Flatbum · 05/10/2017 22:18

Oh and PollyPerky i have only just realised you have told me to read the ingredients and said you disagree with the comments on here regarding soap, thanks for your nuggets of utter shite misinformation. I suggest you go trot along and look at the ingredients and see water content. It is made with water and frangrance, and all other mumbo jumbo and chemicals and silicones and phylates and surficants etc that your claiming soap has (which many soaps dont, we cant tar all soaps with the same brush ffs). And congratulations on your “adequately washed pits” im sure we all stink who use soap and aren’t adequately clean unlike you. fuck off

PollyPerky · 05/10/2017 22:33

Get out of bed on the wrong side today Flatbum?
I think you need to calm down.
Don't patronise me. You aren't actually right.

PollyPerky · 05/10/2017 22:35

BTW Flatbum maybe actually say what is shite ? (Other than your own misinformation.)

Soaps contain surfactants. Shower gels are mainly water . Woo-hoo! Now who didn't know that! But they also contain other things.

And I'm quite at liberty to say I am fine washing with shower gels. So go and do one and stop being so bloody stupid over a bar of fucking soap.
