Soap instead of shower gel

Just wanted to say that based on a thread I read on here probably a few months ago, I swapped my shower gel for soap (I think the original thread was about deodorant, as OP felt a bit whiffy not long after showering, but lots of people recommended switching shower gel for soap instead).
Anyway, the difference is remarkable! I went to a stupidly hot soft play with DS at the weekend, where I had to follow him round the bloody playframe for an hour, (which is a whole other thread!), and still felt pretty fresh that evening, which I never would have been before. Same for the mornings, I usually wake up feeling a bit stinky because I seem to get very hot overnight, but no more! I'm just using Simple soap bars, two for £1. Amazing!

I can only find this

soap

murphys · 12/10/2017 11:37

Morris, that looks lovely. But is it practical to use? It looks like it wouldn't fit into my soap holder. I like oval / round edged soaps, not ones with sharp edges Grin

MorrisZapp · 12/10/2017 11:38

Yes that's them! They have a huge range of the square bars you linked but also a massive table of what looks like delectable baking but is in fact soap.

I bought two fancy fairy cakes for my friends, they will be delighted!

MorrisZapp · 12/10/2017 11:39

Of course it isn't practical :) More of a fun gift or indulgence.

ElspethFlashman · 12/10/2017 11:41

Sheep that I am, I bought soap this morning. Local shop only, so had a choice between Palmolive and Dove and thanks to this thread I know Dove isn't actually soap.

So now I have a 4 pack of Palmolive soap. It's a cheap experiment if it's no better than shower gel on me. But I've never found shower gel all that great so it's exciting to have another option to try.

MorrisZapp · 12/10/2017 11:42

More cake soap! It all smells incredible.

MorrisZapp your cake porn and unbridled enthusiasm have made my day Grin They look amazing. I too am never going back to shower gel.

murphys · 12/10/2017 11:48

Yes they do look beautiful. Far too nice to use for it's purpose. But that candle.......... careful .... Grin

Auldspinster · 12/10/2017 11:54

I've had a look at the website of the local knit your own lentils store and they have a load of lovely looking soaps to try.

Lweji · 12/10/2017 11:57

Cake soap?

This is worse than the candle madness.

NannyR · 12/10/2017 11:59

I love the yorkshire soap company - I once got a lovely big chunk of freshly made soap for free in the Leeds store as someone had pushed in front of me to pay and the owner recognised me as a customer at the Hebden bridge shop. Very good customer service!

AuntyElle · 12/10/2017 12:55

Why would propylene glycol be the second ingredient in the Yorkshire Soap Co soaps? That's the sort of potentially irritating synthetic that I'm trying to avoid by using proper soap.

AuntyElle · 12/10/2017 12:58

But then I guess if you just stroke it and sniff it and don't actually use it then it doesn't matter Wink

Lweji · 12/10/2017 13:02

I don't read ingredient lists anyway.
It only reminds me of chemicals we keep in the lab and wear gloves to handle. Plus all the orange crosses that they have on the bottles. [yikes]

But then some instruction manuals tell us to handle ethanol in a fume hood, so fuck it.

Yetanothernamechange1234 · 12/10/2017 13:06

Thank you for this thread!!! I always used shower gel and always felt stinky;started using dove soap on the back of this post;and I don't smell! I have horrific night sweats and night terrors so used to wake up drenched and smelly all day despite showering before bed and upon waking. Now I shower in morning with soap;smell nice all day;and even though I still have horrid nights after a shower I'm not smelly.x

MrsDeltaB · 12/10/2017 13:17

Oh my! My showers and how I feel after will never be the same! I'm a bit of an excessive sweater and always feel sticky despite showering every single day without fail. Grabbed a dove bar shopping yesterday, used this morning with bath mop and 6 hours later still feel fresh!

Albeit cooler today I'm still in vest top and feel great. My gob is smacked at why I didn't try something so so simple before.

Won't get into the whole ingredient/ethical/bacteria debate but will confirm that both bits are cleaned, with soap (prev gel) very thoroughly and have done so for years with never an issue in that area. It works some, not for others.

Fellow mums I bow and thank you for this little golden nugget. Will be venturing to local farm shop soon for some of their unique beauties!

BoredOnMatLeave · 12/10/2017 13:18

Thanks for this thread? I went out and the weekend and got some Lush soap, have been using it and I am sure I don't smell at all now! At first I thought it felt really dry then realised that's actually feeling clean Blush

SquirrelWatcher · 12/10/2017 13:23

Baa baa! I've just bought some tescos lemon soap, 4 bars for 1.20Grin

Auldspinster · 12/10/2017 14:45

I could peel it smooth with a potato peelerGrin

ElspethFlashman · 12/10/2017 16:44

Just had my first ever soap shower. It felt very different. Skin was all squeaky! Shock

Washed my face with it and stung my eyes though. Will avoid that in the future.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/10/2017 18:54

No, avoid soap on the face, what on earth were you thinking?!Grin

ElspethFlashman · 12/10/2017 19:05

Wait, why is that a bad thing? Our mums washed their face with soap??
