Arghh, getting a small amount of Juvaderm in my top lip on the 9th October to even up my lips as my bottom lip is quite a lot bigger than the top.

Only problem is I'm a compete wuss with pain and hate needles (think cry when I have to have a blood test!)

Anyone here had them? Do they really hurt?

Meow-they look fake.

I think as long as you're prepared for the fact that people will know you've had filler put in then it's fine but don't kid yourself that no one will notice if it's only done subtly.

Leil-I don't feel like anyone's slated OP,I think we're all just being honest about what lip fillers look like in real life and we're trying to persuade OP that she doesn't need it done because our own lips are good enough and there's no need to put yourself through something that you find terrifying.

Leilaniii · 29/09/2017 06:07

I don't think the lips in meow's pic look fake. I think they look good. I would love those lips.

retainertrainer · 29/09/2017 06:16

A natural top lip isn't tight like that.

greentea4me · 29/09/2017 06:36

In meows pic you can tell they're fake as she has a "filler moustache" -- a line above the top lip where the filler has migrated upwards.

OP don't listen to everyone telling you not to do it. It's your face! I've had 0.55ml before and was delighted with the result. They were natural enough that quite a few people didn't realise I'd had something done a everyone really liked the result. I got my lips numbed and im not going to lie, that needle was painful but it was over fast.

Even if they look OK in a still photo, they often look creepy when people talk. Granted, I will have only noticed the badly done ones - but is it worth the risk? There is a high chance you will make yourself look worse.

TheDowagerCuntess · 29/09/2017 07:08

You're worried about how uneven your lips look, but the only person who registers this - let alone judges you on the unevenness - is you.

No-one else notices or cares.

Flowers

Don't get me wrong - I know what it's like to feel bad about an aspect of yourself, but it's actually a really self-indulgent pastime, as everyone else only gives a shit about themselves.

Lips.. lips...lips...the words lost all meaning!

All this over an orifice. We're strange creatures aren't we 😄

There was an interesting article in the Times last weekend. Unfortunately can't link as it's behind the pay wall.

The gist was that small amounts of filler in different areas of the face is the best way to enhance your lips. Apparently dealing with the loss of volume around the eyes, cheeks and mouth causes the lips to 'correct themselves'.

Dr Susha Kirsh. She said she would never inject directly into the lips.

23md.co.uk/dr-suha-kersh/

The article also mentioned the philtrum lift. An incision and lift under the nostrils in order to shorten the length of the philtrum and slightly lift the upper lip. Permanent but extremely subtle and a sure way to avoid the "trout pout".

Can lip filler do anything for vertical lip lines? I've always wanted my top lip plumped out a bit as it's narrow compared to the bottom one but I never did it and I'm probably too old to be fussed now but the arrival of bloody lip lines is making me think again. Now I've got a mouth like Dot Cotton and I don't even smoke.

Leilaniii · 29/09/2017 11:34

It can help a bit. How old are you? [nosy]

Getout21 · 29/09/2017 13:45

I do think they tend to look iffy in real life particularly in motion. Most either look swollen or have that sticky out thing going on.

user1487671808 · 29/09/2017 16:30

Leilani I'm 48 and until last year had no lines. All of a sudden they've appeared and it's really affecting my confidence.

Leilaniii · 29/09/2017 22:10

I'm probably too old to be fussed now.

Nonsense! You're 48, of course you're not too old to be fussed. If you can afford it, why not?

greentea4me · 29/09/2017 22:40

Meow -- When you have fillers the line at the top puffs out as the filler spreads upwards. You can see in the after pic that It's happened on the bottom lip as well, there is a shadow underneath the lip where the filler has spread downwards. You can see it in pics but it's even more obvious in real life.

Airbiscuits · 06/10/2017 20:17

Ok so I read this last week and had filler done today.
I don't think I look fake, even though they are still sore and swollen and will go down.

You go in, have numbing cream applied, wait 30 mins or so, then they do the filler. This took about 20mins. Then you hold a cold pack to your lips for half an hour so and avoid too much talking and hot drinks for a few hours. I won't say it didn't hurt, but it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't get more. I had just over 0.5ml mostly into my top lip to correct its wonkiness and to get rid of smokers lines (even though I have never smoked...too much lip pursing at my smoker husband maybe haha).

I'm not sure anyone else will actually notice the difference. But I'm glad the lines have gone. It made me feel like an old granny with cat bum mouth.

Hazysummerevenings · 06/10/2017 22:14

I've actually cancelled having this done Blush

Don't know if I'm regretting that now or not. Really it was due to the money, I've got A LOT to pay out for this month. Also, I thought I'd rushed into the decision to get it done.

I'm wondering now though whether to just book it for next month and be done with it :sigh:

The trouble is, the shape of my lips is actually quite nice, I've been complimented on them a lot (it's just my stupid top lip is noticeably thinner than my bottom) and I was also worried they'd ruin the shape/ Cupid's bow and I'd end up with that puffy top lip thing going on Blush

This is a bizarre thread.

If it's done properly, it ought to look natural.

I had some tiny filling done (cheeks) a while back and the dr who did it told me she'd had her own lips done, as had the nurse. They did not look OTT at all.

My lips have shrunk to around 50% of what they were in my 20s, the corners are starting to droop and it's very ageing. I am thinking of a small amount of fillers. It's dissolvable- it doesn't last.

In the US some women have permanent fillers which is terrible especially if it goes wrong.

PollyPerky · 06/10/2017 22:57

The photos here are of very young posters! when you get older like me (60s) you will understand. I'd die for lips like some of the women here- in their BEFORE photos!

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 06/10/2017 23:15

I would suggest getting it only if you know a doctor , and not an unqualified random woman, to do it. I don’t know if they’re launched yet but I’ve seen RVF Medical in Leeds which is doctors only practice. They’re new but basically only doctors are hired to do the job so they can help if you have an adverse reaction or they’re there if something goes wrong x

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 06/10/2017 23:21

Glad you cancelled OP

I have not seen one person IRL that looks better with lip fillers
